Re: Greetings of the Season
2007-Dec-26-0348hrs
My dear friends
As we reflect on the year that was and which went by so quickly, we often wonder where the time went; what have we been able to accomplish; the friends with whom we may not have been in touch with as often as we would have liked; the deaths of those near and dear to us that no matter how painful, remind us that our time here on earth is just that - for a time.
I know that this season will be another special one for all of us, reliving old memories and creating new ones.
On behalf of Maureen, the rest of my family and on my own behalf, may I take this opportunity to wish you all, as well as your families, warmest wishes for the season and a bright, prosperous new year filled with the things that matter most - joy, peace, love, safety and happiness.
Sincerely
Jack Warner

Re: Christmas wishes.
2007-Dec-25-1414hrs
My friends;
My house and my heart are full. We went to Midnight Mass at the cathedral, where a full orchestra was in attendance, and by 10.000 there were no seats left. The service was in German and English. God had an opera done in His honor! My Muslim protege went up to the altar to be blessed by the bishop, in her first ever Christian service and Christmas celebration. the Catholic girl from Malawi took communion with us.
At breakfast, my girlfriend brought venison sausages, a gift of her neighbour, and we ate tangerines off my tree, picked yesterday. We prayed in Arabic, in the langaugae of the Malawi, which I cannot pronounce, much less spell, and in English. One prayer was offfered by a Vietnamese Buddhist convert to Anglicanism, who now sings in the church choir.
As I write this, we are preparing to go to dinner at Angie's house,, where we will eat an international meal of Caribbean, Mediterranean and American origins, and again, offer thanks to God in many dialects.
Has there ever been a better Christmas? Not since I was a child.
May the peace and joy of the holiday season, visit you, and stay with you for eternity.Your contribution to my joyful year is recorded in my my memory, and the memory of God.You were part of the process of creating this. No card to be thrown out in a few days could hvve said the same thing. This is cheaper too.
Peace, and blessings.

For those who might be interested:
Dear Sharon,
Just in case you might be interested: ACC PILGRMAGE TO LOURDES FOR 150 ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS
The Archdiocesan Communication Commission (ACC) is organizing a pilgrimage to Lourdes and Fatima to take place next year, 2008, from September 17 – 27 as Lourdes will be celebrating the 150th anniversary of the apparition of the Virgin to Bernadette. It is interesting to note here that as a special spiritual benefit to pilgrims, the Pope has stated that Catholics who visit the miracle shrine (at Lourdes) over the next year will receive indulgences. A recent release from the Vatican states that plenary indulgences will be granted to pilgrims visiting the shrine during the year from December 8, 2007, until December 8, 2008.
Should you join this pilgrimage you will first arrive in Portugal via Miami where you will visit Santarem, site of the Eucharistic Miracle. In Fatima you will go to see the Basilica containing the tombs of Jacinta and Francisco, two of the children to whom Mary appeared in 1917. You will also see the sites connected with the Apparitions – the village of Fatima, homes of the children, the church where they were baptized.
From Fatima you will cross into the Spanish countryside where you will experience the beautiful Cathedrals of Salamanca and Burgos. From there you will proceed into the Pyrenees and then to Lourdes where you will spend three days. Here you will participate in the evening processions, attend Mass at the Grotto of the Apparitions, and visit places connected with the life of St Bernadette. You will also participate in the Blessed Sacrament Procession, the Blessing of the sick, and bathe in the miraculous waters.
The latest news coming out of the Vatican is that the Pope is expected to visit Lourdes next year, possibly in September or October. We are hoping that he will be there during our visit.
After the stay in Lourdes where you will have a free day to do whatever you want, you will travel to Montserrat, Spain’s most sacred mountain. Here you will visit the Romanesque Monastery and the shrine of the Virgin of Montserrat, also known as “La Moreneta or Black Virgin, because of her dark complexion. It is then back to T&T via Miami
Should you be interesting in joining the pilgrimage and would like more information you are advised to call the ACC office 623-7620 as soon as possible.
The Spiritual Director will be Fr John Theodore

Seasons greetings and a blessed Christmas to all. Tonight it's calypso semi finals on Montserrat and I've been resting up as much as possible all week to go and enjoy. I stopped singing in competition ( YES, ME!) five years ago. I peaked very early and came third in the open competition at my first attempt... actually the first time a woman made it to winners row! after that I made it to finals and semis a few times but it takes a lot of energy so I called it a day contest wise. tell you about the results later on. This is our festival season in tandem with Christmas.

Thanks for keeping us informed. I too "read" the Express first thing in the morning. The positive actions seem to get less media attention and fewer comments. A Thelma Cross suggested that if each person simply did what they were supposed to do... obey the rules, be polite and considerate etc life would change for everyone. Her suggestions began with : What If...? followed by positive actions. Of course some know better came up with his set of What ifs: what if everone became a vigilante etc.. it really sickened me.
From time to time I post comments, some of which are printed. I shared my thoughts on communities reclaiming schools so that students could have a sense of belonging and also not have to spend long hours getting to and from schools which are far away from their communities. The Government just needs to equip all schools adequately so that each would in time become a "prestige school" whatever that means nowadays. In the meantime though we can all pray for the light to shine in the hearts and minds of our people.
Have a blessed Christmas all.

The year is slowly closing and I want to remember 2007 as a wonderful year, though tinged with sadness. Memories of reacquainting myself with a number of beautiful people will linger on. Being part of the planning for the Tobago Reunion with Anna, Janice, Hazel, Felix, the Tobago crew and the Canadian crew, is a memory to cherish. Now I wish one and all God's richest blessings for the Christmas season and a fruitful and happy New Year.

Re: A Message To All Mausicans, from Linda Edwards (Romain)
2007-Dec-07-1215hrs
"God Bless Our Nation,
of many varied races.
May we possess the common love,
that binds and makes us one.
Let it be known around the world,
that we can boast of unity,
and take a pride
in our liberty."
When that hymn to our country was composed for Independence in 1962, I was twenty-one, and was so proud of the fact that my country and I had come of age together. I still love that land with a pasion, that if a man was the beneficiary of it, it would burn him to ashes, so intense it is.
Recently, though, in reading the Express on-line(www,trinidadexpress.com) I have become aware that a lot of Trinis do not love their country, begining with the speech given by the leader of the opposition when his party lost. Daily, if you read the comments that bloggers are allowed to attach to the Express, you would see that absence of love coming through, even though most of the comments stick to the topic of the news.(I have met political refugees from brutal regimes in their countries, who if the leadership changed, would go home tomorrow. Some have had legs or arms chopped off. They still love their country).
I live five minutes from a mall where a young woman on opening her store, was shot to death by a man who then committed suicide. There was another major shooting at a mall in Omaha this week. Americans do not talk of moving from their country because of crime, they work to try to find solutions to the problem. Canadians do not move from their country because an overzealous immigration official tazered a Polish immigrant and caused his death, they work to try to prevent this from happening again, through the legislative process and other means. This is love of country.
It well may be, that those who constantly condemn Trinidad and Tobago in the media were not the beneficiaries of anything- not free education, free medical care, free and low-cost computers that the government subsidized for children, low cost housing, or anything else, including the invaluable fact of living and growing in a multi-racial society. This results in our ability to fit in to any country in the world. There are those who see no good whatsover in the place.
Occasionally, I help prepare oil company personnel to go down there to work. The picture they are given by all this is one of a nation on the edge of imminent racial warfare. If this were so, no person would dare take a maxi or other taxi if it was driven by someone other than their own race. No person would buy food in a restaurant, if it was prepared by someone of another race, no person would have friends of any other race but their own. Many of us have families that include every race.African,Chinese, European and Indian.
You all know that none of this is happening. During the summer just ended, after the reunion, my American friend and I ,she is a high school counsellor, spent two weeks living on the campus of UWI, and taking maxi-taxis to the St. Mary's Children's Home, where along with Merle Howe, and Rodney Foster, we volunteered to help as reading teachers. My friend and I walked from Citizen's Bank in Tunapuna, back to the campus, so she could get a sense of small stores and wayside markets. We walked from the campus to Hi-Lo and came back carrying gallon bottles of water. We walked all over the shopping areas of down-town Port-of-Spain, including Charlotte Street. We took taxi to Diego Martin, and got soaked at the Emancipation Celebration. We flirted with the ten year old boy being money-minder for his parent's bake and shark stall at the Emancipation Village. We saw no crime. We were not threatened. We came to no harm. Perhaps because we were praying souls, doing God's work? It has to be more than that.
We drove through Central, shopped at the Chaguanas Market, and at roadside stalls, accompanied by two men in their late seventies. We came to no harm.
Yet, if you read the commentaries, and the headlines in the papers, you would think that the place was a wild west village, where shooting up each other was the order of the day. Of course, none of us are involved in drugs either, so that may have something to do with how we coped.
There is also a tendency, I have observed in some of the daily papers, to ridicule every institution in the country, beginning with the Office of the President. It is as if a whole lot of people wish they were born elsewhere, and had loyalties other than that owed to their land of birth. Loyalties that they could be proud of. Many of us are retired, and can no longer direct students in the ideas of being loyal to their country, but I appeal to you, at this Advent time of renewal, and preparation, to pray daily for our country, for all of our people, of whatever faith, that they may turn their thoughts and actions towards the good of all; that they will act as people of goodwill towards all men and women.
There must be a thousand of us left alive still, and if these one thousand people say the words of that song at the start of this piece, daily, with fervour, I am sure we would have moved our country closer to where all desire it to be. Leaders of a nation are not God, but God can direct their paths in working for the good of all. Let us pray that the composer of God Bless Our Nation, would be blessed,he and his descendants, for giving us those words of inspiration.
During the Christmas holidays, I will host two African scholars at my home, one from North Africa, is a Muslim, the other is from Burundi and is a Christian. Include all three of us, in your prayers and good wishes also. The Fulbright Program, under whose aegis they are in the USA, aims to bring people closer to understanding through education. It also sends Americans abroad for the same purpose. We can move closer to the Peace of God that passeth all understanding. All good wishes for the new year, to all of you.
Have an enjoyable Christmas season, and remember, the most significant message of HIS ministry is: Love One Another As I Have Loved You.

Re: Rodney's poems
2007-Dec-06-1121hrs
Hello Errol,
Every year one of my friends, Gwen Green, holds two events at which poets write their thoughts on a quote. This year the quote came from Malaika Fvorite, an artist and a writer : "There is no place for a mountain to move." Attached are my two pieces which I read to the audience on Dec15th. Please share them with my Mausica family.
By the way, there is a Trinidadian in Winnipeg, Jume Springer from La Romain, who would like me to visit and promote my books and CD there. She says there is a TNT association in Winnipeg. Do you have any contacts in Winnipeg?
Thanks for your weekly correspondence. It's great to keep in touch.
Rodney Foster
MOVING ON
My biggest mountain is the closed mind.
Both in myself and others.
Members of the “Yes, but’, and “I know, but” group.
The kind that is triple-reinforced with ignorance, fear and prejudice,
Those weapons of mass destruction.
Unmoved by a preponderance of evidence to the contrary,
They hold fast to falsehoods, hearsay and emotional rhetoric.
No keys of knowledge can unlock such biased minds,
No light can penetrate their darkness
For they have learned to function in that environment,
Frustrating the hell out of teachers like you and me.
Therefore, we must learn to let go and move on To enlighten more fertile, receptive minds.
Perhaps one day their teacher would come along.
Yesterday’s solutions must give way to today’s innovations,
Peace must replace war, love hatred, humility arrogance and action passivity.
My friends, what are your mountains today?
We are all mountaineers, you know.
So let’s share our war stories and level all mountains.
Because all mountains are surmountable.

MY MOUNTAIN
When the stressors of this world overwhelm me
And my knees buckle and I begin to hear the count:
“One, two, three, four, five, six, seven,”
I remember God’s invitation and I rise.
“Come unto me all that are weary and heavily burdened and I will give you rest.”
Like magic I am transported to His warm embrace
Where I offload my burdensome baggage to his infinite hard drive.
No elaborate logon procedure is required, no user ID number, no password,
No special attire, no fee, no special time.
On this mountain, access is unconditional, 24/7.
Just acknowledge His presence, say “Help me, Lord”
And you are online with the Creator.
I love going to the mountain because it’s fast and convenient
And communication is up-close and personal.
God’s Mountain resides in me.
I just plug in from wherever and whenever I choose.
On the 285, 85, 20 E, Covington Highway or Wesley Chapel,
My cubicle on the job, Walmart, Publix, at the gas pump or my home.
God’s Mountain is just a click away.
It is an all-inclusive retreat that caters to all moods and circumstances.
Whether I want to celebrate, meditate or recuperate I can visit my mountain.
And like Martin and Moses, I am enlightened and enlivened
When I soar to the mountain top or kneel within its sanctuary and witness the burning bush.
Thank you, Lord, for creating in me your immovable mountain.

Re: Vintage Mausica slides
2007-Nov-09-2046hrs
Hello Errol,
When we were in Tobago recently for the Reunion, there was a fellow Mausican, who presented a slide show depicting various aspects of Mausica life. I believe his name was Richard, but I can’t recall his last name.
The slides were in a very bad shape and they were beginning to fall apart in the projector. Anyhow, he asked me to take them back with me to see what could be done to salvage this piece of Mausica treasure. I have since checked around here in Vancouver, and there is a Photo Shop that will transfer the slides to DVD or other digital formats for $1.00 per slide (plus taxes). There are approximately 200 slides in the container.
If there is interest in preserving the slides, then invite people to respond in writing with their suggestions; and have Richard (or whoever gave me the slides) to contact me as follows. After November 19th, e-mail me at Selwyn_jacob@telus.net (selwyn underscore Jacob)
Keep up the good work.

Re: MAUSICA WEEKLY EMAILS
2007-Oct-19-1733hrs
Hello Errol,
Please forward this response to Elaine in case she doesn't receive it directly.
Thanks,
Selwyn
--------------------------------------------
Dear Elaine,
Thank you very much for taking the time to comment on the video, Harry Joe's Children, and specifically for your insights into some of the events and personalities referenced in it. We all have our individual connection to Mausica in general, and Mr Joseph, in particular. In my day I did a mean imitation of Mr Joseph, and we developed a kind of respect for one another, as a result.
But just as there is no definitive Mausica experience, I am sure there is not a singular response to the video, and I hope that it strikes a chord in each and every Mausican, in some manner; and cumulatively, the those individual experiences would be far greater than the individual video, as Harry Joe might have pointed out in one of his classes.
One story that stands out for me from the video goes as follows: Florence Harvey Sorias, who lives in Toronto, tells the story of being saved from drowning by a fellow Mausican while on an excursion. Last year on a visit to New York, I ran into Elmo Phillip (64-66) and he confirmed Florence's story, and added that he was the person who saved her from drowning. He subsequently called her and they re-connected after several decades.
I am sure there are dozens of unusual stories hidden in all of the footage seen in the video, but we wouldn't know until someone identifies them.
Thanks for starting something, maybe there are lots of other stories out there.
Regarding the archiving of the video, I have asked Felix Edinborough to drop off a copy at the National Library, as you suggested.
Best Wishes
Selwyn Jacob

Re: Mausica memories
2007-Sep-24-2117hrs
For the first time today, I viewed Harry Joe's Children. What a flood of memories! On the back jacket, there is a picture of Noel Duncan and another student. Noel has the distinction of having Harry Joe as his Principal twice. He was a student of Woodbrook Secondary when Harry Joe opened that school. Later he came to Mausica when I taught there. So I too had him as a student twice.
See the reception for The Rt. Hon. Roland Michener, Governor G.eneral of Canada? Some students and I had the job of decorating the new principal's residence as a reception center for him, and the bigwigs in his entourage. We spent half the day sewing red drapery for the house. You couldn't write a petty cash order for more than ninety-nine dollars then, on the government's accounts, so I went into town armed with three of those to do the shopping for what was needed. Harry Joe bent the rules, and made some new ones for the success of the place called Mausica. When I see the broken down buildings in the video, I want to weep for the ethos that was the college. For as the Hon. Orville London said at the formal dinner, Mausica gave us all something, special, which we in turn gave to those others entrusted to our care. I would recommend, Selwyn, that a copy of the video be filed with the National Library of Trinidad and Tobago, if you have not yet done so..
The footage of the countryside, and of Caracas, could be of tremendous historical significance. Mausica was a leadership training academy, but we did not know it then. When we hear now of teachers going to school in TnT inappropriately dressed, I think of young men required to wear white shirts and ties, to walk in the rain from the dorms to class.
Times certainly have changed.

FW: WHAT TEACHERS MAKE
2007-Sep-17-2338hrs
WHAT TEACHERS MAKE
The dinner guests were sitting around the table discussing life. One man, a CEO, decided to explain the problem with education. He argued,"What's a kid going to learn from someone who decided his best option in life was to become a teacher?" He reminded the other dinner guests what they say about teachers: "Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach." To stress his point he said to another guest; "You're a teacher, Mary. Be honest. What do you make?"
Mary, who had a reputation for honesty and frankness replied, "You want to know what I make? (She paused for a second, then began...) "Well, I make kids work harder than they ever thought they could. I make a C+ feel like the Congressional Medal of Honor. I make kids sit through 40 minutes of class time when their parents can't make them sit for 5 without an I Pod, Game Cube or movie rental.
You want to know what I make?" (She paused again and looked at each and every person at the table.) I make kids wonder. I make them question. I make them apologize and mean it. I make them have respect and take responsibility for their actions. I teach them to write and then I make them write. Keyboarding isn't everything. I make them read, read, read. I make them show all their work in math. They use their God-given brain, not the man-made calculator. I make my students from other countries learn everything they need to know in English, while preserving their unique cultural identity. I make my classroom a place where all my students feel safe. I make my students stand, placing their hand over their heart to say the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, One Nation Under God, because we live in the United States of America. Finally, I make them understand that if they use the gifts they were given, work hard, and follow their heart s, they can succeed in life.
(Mary paused one last time and then continued.) "Then, when people try to judge me by what I make, with me knowing money isn't everything, I can hold my head up high and pay no attention because they are ignorant... You want to know what I make? I MAKE A DIFFERENCE. What do you make Mr. CEO?"
His jaw dropped, he went silent.
THIS IS WORTH SENDING TO EVERY TEACHER YOU KNOW. Even all your personal teachers like mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, and your spiritual leaders/teachers - Pastor's/Priests/Clergy. Make a difference today.

Subject: I ,Obelisk
2007-Sep-14-1737hrs
The above is the title of an article in the current issue of Saudi Aramco World. The obelisk, created in the time of Seti 1 traces its life to where it now stands in Rome.
Talk about interesting history? Resources like these were not available in our time.
Those who would like to subscribe to this free publication, the address is:
Saudi Aramco WORLD Circulation Department
P.O. Box 469008
Escondido, CA
92046-9008
They will mail it to you anywhere in the world where there is a mailbox, free.
Last month,I ordered subscriptios for The National Library Of Trinidad and Tobago, and The Library of the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine.
The magazine focuses on the Islamic world, wherever Muslims are. Its very positive portrayal of ancient African history alone makes it worth reading.
From it I learned a few years back, that West Africans were reading and writing Arabic five hundred years before Columbus sailed to the New World. the manuscripts are in a museum in Mauretania.
You can well imagine how astonished my students were at that fact! With each issue, they push the veil of history back a little further. Articles are written by professionals in their fields.
Past articles can be accessed online: www.saudiaramcoworld.com, and pictures can be downloaded for educational purposes for free.Check it out, Mausicans and others, you'd be glad you did.

2007-Aug-27-1843hrs
Hello Errol,
As usual. It was a pleasure seeing you and the Canadian Posee Congrats on your award. Keep up the good work. Attached is the piece dat partially captures the essence of my experience. Have a good evening.
Rodney Foster
REMEMBER WHEN?
On Sunday July 22nd, we stood in the sweltering heat in Port of Spain to begin a journey of discovery. Voluntarily, we set out on a new adventure filled with hope and excitement. No one knew exactly what experiences lay ahead. As the perspiration streamed down my back and my bald head My thoughts travelled way, way, way back in time to the North Western shores of Mother Africa Where millions of our ancestors were enslaved and sent on a journey across the Middle Passage. There was no Anna Maria Mora to bring them bottles of cool water to quench their thirst. Friends, we are the descendants of those people. Those who survived. They were the strongest. That makes us very special people. Therefore, tonight we must invoke their presence and say thanks. We must stand proud on their shoulders and move on. We must acknowledge the presence of the God that was a constant factor in the lives of our ancestors. Mausicans, friends, tonight we will sing praises and dance to honor the God who blesses us in all circumstances. Tonight, we will fall in love again. Tonight, we will celebrate love and friendship. It may be demonstrated through a warm embrace, a knowing smile, ah lil sweet eye or a bone-crushing, soul brother, ah Scratchie special, or soul sister bear hug that says, “I love you my brother. I love you my sister.”
Mausicans, let’s reminisce for a moment. Do you remember the pomp and glamour of a formal dinner? “Like the one when “de pudding tumble down while de Joe was speaking”. Tonight, we will thank Dr Eric Williams and his PNM Government, Harry Joseph and his dedicated faculty and staff for creating Mausica Teachers’ College in 1963. Thank you, Linda Edwards-Romain, Cliff Bertrand and Roland Maundy for your presence and contributions to molding the lives of your grateful students. We love you. By de way, do you remember what renting a tile means? Yes man, those were the days when de fellas abdominals were flat and hard and rippled like dem jooking board in Cecile’s Heritage Museum. De girls and dem were firm and upright. Tut-tuts jooking out yuh eye. Age, child-rearing and gravity were distant natural disasters. Oh Boy, what a time we had at our beloved Mausica.
Do you remember what a Wife Tune was? Yes! Yes! Dat was a significant tune. Yuh had tuh dance dat tune wit Numero Uno Mankind would make a beeline fuh dey sweetheart And dey would rent ah tile in HMJ Hall. Hearts would beat in unison. Breathing was synchronized. Avon, Chenel #5 and Este Lauder would blend with English Leather Old Spice and Brut Faberge. It was sweet and enchanting as we moved ever so slowly like swans on a moonlit lake to the wife tune of the day. Aye, D J, put on ah Wife Tune, dey. Yes, Alisford. Dat is tune. Dat is de dam ting self. Rev. Al Green “For the Good Times”. Allyuh, give de D J a rounds of applause. Alis is de best, de baddest. Yes my friends, thanks for these unforgettable four days and their lessons. Thanks, Happy, for the lesson on kissing. Now I know that all parts of the human anatomy deserve kissing. Not only the lips. Eastlyn, thanks for explaining the origins of the Bongo Dance and the significance of the sheet. Gyul, dis morning ah went out and buy a King Size sheet for meh Queen Size bed. From now on ah taking orf de lights and operating under cover.
Thank you, God, for this rewarding and memorable reunion. Thank you, God, for our many gifts and talents. Thanks for your consistent companionship. Long Live Mausica. Mausicans tuh de bone. Help us Lord to continue to mold a nation through service.
Thank you.
Rodney Foster

Well, Well, Well, the Web is certainly widening isn't it. Rodney Charles, where have you been and where are you now. Jenny John, great to hear from you, Kay Forde and Junior Howell, what a surprise to see your names come up. Grenada will be massive. Megan, Alphonsus et al, take note. Instead of www. (world wide web) we are creating our own mww. (mausica's widening web). Let's keep the web growing. All you teachers who are going back out to school, here is hoping that your batteries are recharged and you are going back out there with renewed vigour. It's only just beginning.

Congratulations to Eastlyn and Cecile for the work that they are doing with the kids. The Mausica spirit lives on. Next stop, Spice Isle 09. Hope to see all of you there. 2007-Aug-24-0803hrs
Hi Mausicans
I remember Kay Weekes well. How has she managed to stay away from reunions??Montserratians were again touched by the hand of God as once again we were spared from a Hurricane ( dean) which so devastated other places. Do you know that since the volcanic crisis started in 1995 we have had either nothing or just bearable winds and rain? I am now of the opinion that the arrival of a hurricane on Montserrat will be a sign that the volcano is going back to sleep. It is really true that HE never gives us more than we can bear.
Used to love soursop icecream as a child but my present favourite is real coconut icecream or evem pumpkin and coconut which I Tasted in Trinidad... yes I said Yuk! too , BEFORE I tasted it and went back for more! I have now been unsuccesful in accessing 3 sets of photos ( Maureen'Brenda's and Tom's) I am doing something wrong... tell me what please. Love you all...pat
ps www.mvo.ms will give you info on the Soufriere hills volcano.

Re: MAUSICA ALLUMNI AWARD OF MERIT

2007-Aug-23-2124hrs
Oh,I will forever regret missing that gala ball until Grenada comes around.

My pictures did not come out well, especially those taken on the first night. The lighting was not of the best. there is one of Korenza and Maria which I am attaching. I managed to get a few from the bus drive which I am sharing.Scratchy, the one you took with the camera turned backwards did not come out,I guess the camera went into shock. The one you took of me, and also, I do believe, the one with JB and Esther and me looks fine, so I am sharing those.

I am off to Antigua in the morning for meetings. If any Mausicans are there , please hail me at Jolly Beach Hotel. I will be there until Tuesday.

Again, thanks for the relaxing days in Tobago. This is so rare for me. My doctor was very pleased that I was able to abandon work for a few days.

I returned to Tobago for two days for an appointment and got another sea bath.Lovely.

I received some sad news today. The co-owner of Viola's Place, James Brathwaithe, my good friend and fellow attorney-at- law died on Monday of a heart attack. He was 69 years old. I believe some of you stayed there. He will have funeral services in Tobago and Trinidad and will be cremated in Trinidad. This is the seconfd lawyer to die this week. The other was Terrance Thorne. He was 58. He was also my good friend. May they rest in peace.

Love to all.

I really enjoy reading our blog. You are doing a tremendous job of keeping it going. Congrats. Sorry that I missed the reunion but personal reasons mitigated against my being there. I was very happy to meet you at the reunion and moreso afforded the opportunity to express my personal thanks for the job you are doing. Please continue to unite Mausicans. I think one of the most significant experiences in my life is that of being a Mausican. I say this with a sense of pride as I share the Mausican spirit and the camaraderie which accompanies us wherever we go. It was indeed thrilling to meet all those wonderful people at the reunion and to know that we share so much in common.
Special thanks to the organising committee for such a commendable effort. I 'm looking forward to Grenada 2009 God willing.

Now responding to this because I am in the throes of holiday camp with 36 children and young people. Had to leave them to come to Tobago. Going turtlewatching with them on Thursday night and staying to see the sunrise in Grand Riviere. Carol (Cook), Alisofrd also feels that the Trini Mausican should meet more often. I agree, but I am still in the Tobago aura, and now getting over the tired feeling, but still happy about it though. When I am finished with camp and not as busy, I will get in touch with you all to see if we can. I will speak to the committee and hear what they have to say.
I still cannot find the file with all the application forms and email addresses etc etc. I looked and looked. Since the day after the opening night's cocktails I missed it. i had it at Mt. Irvine, thought that I left it in a car trunk, but it was not there, asked Mt. Irvine but they did not find it. Tried to locate it but still couldn't, was hoping that someone has it and kept it and that it will turn up somewhere, someday. Anyway, this blog is a blessing, Errol so that we ca n keep in touch. I do have some phone numbers so that I will make use of them. Please guys keep in touch.
I have nightmares that your names, addresses and phone numbers are floating around somewhere in Tobago. Please if anything weird happens to anyone please let me know. r The file just disappeared into thin air. Sorryyyyyyyy!!!!!!!
I am covering it with prayers and hoping that it will "self distruct" and not fall into any crazy person's hands. "Blessings Abundant and a World Full of Love."

Thanks Kay for your vote of confidence. My efforts at keeping our group together are for me as much as it is for everyone else. Meeting with other Mausicans is always emotionally rewarding, that's why I am still trying to hold that meeting with our members who are so elusive lately. I spent most of yesterday in the company of Janice Quamina who is visiting Toronto - it was reunion continued, with lots of laughs. I forgot to mention that I was so happy to meet Alphonsus (Crotie) who was my partner to "walk" for graduation and who I had not seen since then. Crotie you look as if time has not passed - maybe it's the pakro water that I hear about. If anyone took a picture of Mr. Maunday I would love to have a copy. This blogspot is like a new toy for me - I check it several times a day. So again, thanks to Errol for keeping us connected.

Errol, I congratulated you in person however, I would like to again say that your award was "well deserved". Through your dedication you have managed to keep Mausicans connected. For this I am thankful.
Brenda, congratulations on your award also. The Mausicans who belong to the Canadian chapter will understand how deserving you are of this, and how invaluable you are to our organization.
I had a wonderful time at the reunion, the warmth at these gatherings is extraordinary. The highlight for me was the Heritage night and I must congratulate Cecile on an amazing job It was wonderful seeing Mausicans from different years greet each other with hugs and kisses. We are a special breed. Eastlyn, always the professional ----------none can compare.
Anna Maria, Janice, Felix, Barbara and the Tobago contingent-----thank you for a great time and a wonderful reunion. Each day brought with an inordinate amount of excitement and joy. Each reunion gets better---------- hint hint Grenada!!
I visited with Ena Perryman, Earl Carnavon and Merle Legendre prior to returning to Toronto, they have promised to be at the next reunion. Live Now!! Live in the Moment!!!

I would like to think that the presence of some of the Mausica"second generation' augurs well for the continuation of these reunions. Maurus we did not see enough of you. Why did i always think that big dumplings had to be fat? Charlotteville taught me different and the blue food was so wickedly delicious!. Thank you so very much all who worked so hard to make the Tobago experience special. Pat

Rendezvous 2007 was in a word amazing. It was the first time I have seen and enjoyed so much of our sister island.. Thank you and congratulations to Anna Maria and your teams in Trinidad and Tobago. , The gala was indeed a GALA, befitting Mausicans….and I can still hear the sweet voice of our dear senator ringing through it all. Crotie Alphonsus Antoine, I hope you found your phone so you can get things going in Grenada; Megan, be sure to include soursop ice cream on the desert list for Penny and Irma :) ..and me.. Allan, the pioneer impromptu session was long overdue…thankx. Errol, keep on blogging ..we will talk soon. A special thank you to Gerry Callendar for taking care of the awards for us in the Ontario Toronto chapter. Buzzie, I am sorry that NY did not get it if only for Tola, but Grenada will be fun. I think we should plan something with your chapter in the interim. As a final thought, I hope many of us will give Fitz (Mr Williams) and others a call about the event. Good to hear from you Sister Hazel and it was so great to see you. I am glad you did not report that I hold the camera back to front when you asked me to take a picture of you. I hope you have checked to see how I came out! On our bus we learned about left-hand dumpling, which, it appears, is a potent Tobago remedy for those who like to roam. One of the outcomes of this trip, is that I saw myself more clearly, and only today I indicated to my chair that we should begin retirement discussions. I intend to go back home where I belong. I hope I can find a way to live in Tobago. So many things were uplifting for me. Allisford and Claudette. Lester and Korenza. Fantastic models. Mausica love can endure. It is the greatest love. I strived for it once, and seeing these great couples reassured me that mine was a noble quest even in failure. The Mausica spouses (spice?) are an important aspect of the group. I chatted with Wilton Jackson, who was an idol of all teen boys in Marabella when I was growing up, due to his sprinting prowess at Southern Games, a national champion for years, and such a gentleman and role model. I knew Winston Mellowes when he was head of chemical engineering at UWI, and was happy to see him in his role of Mausica spouse. I was in awe of the pioneers, who ran the important first leg for us in 63. Where do they find the energy, and the grace? Joy untold in meeting again Barbara, Lynette, Eutrice, Cutty, Alisford, Annette, Maxine, Cynthia, Carol Ann, Shirley, members of the 1967/69 year group. How does one explain the excitement of just seeing these faces, and throwing one's mind back 40 years, to an age of innocence, when we were all lining up for meals, wandering the halls, and trying to transition into adulthood. There was character and wisdom in the faces all. Then the Havenites, Rodney, Bobb, Hospedales et al. Maria, Felix and the committee did a great job. Errol and Conrad continue to keep the string drawn tight through the years. I ended the whole thing by visiting Fitzy. On leaving he held my hand in a grip to assure me of his great strength still. I left more impressed by the clarity of his mind.
Scratchy.

Hi Errol,
A million thanks to you, for your yeoman service which is truly in keeping with the Mausica motto:"Moulding anation through service".
Thanks also to the organisers for making those days"Mausica Days" once more in our hearts and minds. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
A challenge to Trini Mausicans, can't we meet and plan activities during the year? We should not wait for 2-year occasions to see each other and bond.
Many who were present in Tobago have expressed a desire to have us connect on a regular basis.
Thanks again and God bless! Long livethe Mausica spirit!

Brenda Alexander has left a new comment on your post "Re: MAUSICA ALLUMNI AWARD OF MERIT2007-Aug-03-0738...":
Have been n Tortola, BVI since the reunion. The island is in the throes of their carnival celebrations, but my heart is still with the reunion. The highlight of my reunion 2007 was socialising - I met many amazing Mausicans for the first time, reconnected with some whom I had not seen since 1965 (and allyuh still lookin good - hats off to Mrs. Massish's and Mr. Julien's nutritious meals) and continued bonding with those with whom I am in contact. Glenda and Judith Lewis brought me back to memories of my childhood and I thank them for that. I would love to spend time talking with more people when we meet in Grenada. Thanks to the Canadian Connection for recognising me with an award - that was indeed a surprise. Errol, you were undoubtedly our favourite when we decided to honour one of our own - congrats. To the organising committee of Rendezvous 2007 - your hard work paid off. Ah had ah ball. To my roommates at the house in Bon Accord - it was like old times in the hostel. Mennen, you could real lime gyul. Allan and Cynthia Clovis you provided me with the most emotionally rewarding experience of all of the Mausica reunions that I attended. It was so fulfilling to sit in a circle and share experiences with the Pioneers - an encore will be welcome in Grenada. I am sure that the Canadian Connection will be assisting behind the scenes with the Grenada celebration. Tobago was nice, but Grenada will be spicey.

Errol
Keep up the good work with the messages. Nice meeting you again.
Congratulations to the organizing committee for the Tobago reunion. It takes a lot of work for things to go smoothly. It was certainly emotional reuniting and meeting others for the first time. I hadn't seen Scratchie for years...only through his columns...a lot more of him now though. The rendition of Hello Mudder by the pioneers brought back memories of initiation. I hope they sounded much more melodic at that time. Annette, keep up the good work in Tobago. You need to find a pichoil stove to add to your museum. ( can't help you there).
Looking forward to Grenada 2K9

I say a loud AMEN to Anna Maria's message. I am still wearing my ID bracelet... let's have a contest to see who can keep theirs on till Grenada 2007... those who know me better will understand that colour coordination is not a big concern with me! Tomorrow is Cudjoe Head day in my village so there will be lots of activities from 6am. The unrelenting noise of the too loud music tends to keep me away except for a few minutes at a time. We acknowledged Emancipatipon day on August first but there will be a Public holiday on Monday.
I am in a small minority who feel strongly that August 1st and May 1st shoulkd never be interfered with... whatever day of the week they fall on. How do Mausicans feel about this? Must share with you that the presence of Alphonsus Antoine at his first ever reunion event truly warmed my heart and I'm so happy we chose Grenada!
Love and blessings to all.

Dear Maria,
Thank you for encouraging me to attend the reunion when my personal schedule seemed to be militating against it. My personal high was the tour and visit to Charlotteville. It will be long before I forget driving in the bus and feeling that wonderful air blowing in my face. That was heavenly. The company and the old talk made it complete.
It was wonderful to see the old faces, though, therewere some, at first, I did not recognize. We have not grown old, just differently wonderful. The camaraderie and joy in one another's presence made me feel that there was indeed a heavenly presence, with no negatives, no thought of crime, just the joy of being, enjoying and loving one another. I do love you all. Thanks for the memories. I trust you all enjoyed the ball for me. I will make it up in Grenada.
Rodney, on my flight to Saint Lucia and at nights there, after the exhausting schedule of the three-day seminar on Justice for Children, I read your books: Remember Wen and Walk in My Shoes. What happiness there is in remembering the good old days! Had I read them before, I would have bought quite a few books. I think they would make great Christmas gifts. Do publicize them well. They are best sellers.Trinbagonians, nay, West Indians at home and in the diaspora should grab them up. Congratulations!
I have a meeting in Trinidad in less than two weeks' time, so maybe I'll see some of you.
Errol, congrats on a reward well-deserved.
Scratch, next time, maybe, we'll get to chat some more.
All the best.

Hi People,
How are you all doing? Many have told me that they needed something to help them come down from the high they were on with the reunion. It is called "debriefing" in some circles. Maybe, we should have found a "rum shop" after the dinner and dance and "debriefed." Coming back down to "reality" was difficult for some. I am still "tired". Found myself in the Emancipation Day Parade though, with all my tiredness. When I heard the drums and Ella and Resistance and Stalin, all d t iredness left me and that was it. It rained like it never rained before. There I was dancing in the rain, in the streets, it was a truly liberating feeling. I envisaged the whole Mausica Tobago Reunion and more with a banner saying Mausica Alumni, prancing and really emancipating ourselves from the drudgery and mundane-ness ( is that a word, Pat?) of everyday life. I smiled with the world. I saw a few Mausicans in it and they looked really happy. I really hope that the reunion made all of you, just simply happy. Happiness helps with peace, and no matter what is going on in our personal lives, periods of happiness are really necessary to give us a reason to go on. Peace is a fruit of the Holy Spirit and I really hope that the reunion allowed you all to pick this fruit along with Charity, and Joy.
For all of those who have been trying to get on the website, I receive an e-magazine called "Trinidiary", and the last edition I received, I was reading it and saw info about Mausica Reunion, it was old info, but it asked that you go into the website to get the reg. forms etc. and it listed the website. I went in and got on to the website. Could not before. This is it, http://personaltrainingprograms.com/mausica there was no "www " so try that and it should work. Let me know if it did.Abundant Blessings and a World Full of Love to you all. Anna Maria
Maureen, thanks for the pics.

Errol,
You deserve it. You have single handedly kept the Alumni together and informed. Your efforts have made a big difference.
After proposing Tobago as the venue for 2007, I regret missing the event. Grenada....here I come.
Now, please can I see some pictures from Tobago?

Sorry I mis read your request for the Mausica Anthem and sent the Best bluffers song instead ( though some people might be interested in that too) I believe the Anthem came after our time at Mausica.
Just to clear up an issue on my mind: I seem to remember that Trevor Davis (Tete) composed and sang La Porrinden for a calypso contest in either 1964 or '65. Can you ask for confirmation of this when you resume the blog?

RE: hello Mausicans

Hi again
I wrote the lyrics... really a parody on a parody entitled Camp Granada which had a similar theme... disgruntled campers who eventually find something to be happy about, The melody is actually a classical tune w hich someone more musically endowed might be able to identify.
Best bluffers sang tthis at the official opening of MTC on Monday, September 16, 1963:

hello mudder, hello fadder,
here we are stuck at Mausica
got no blankets, got no pillows,
some of us aint got a bed but guess that follows.
we've a kitchen, ain't got no cooks,
lovely classrooms but no school books
classy college, nothing in it...
seems our needs are getting greater by the minute

Take we home oh mudder , fadder, take we home
we promise not to ask to leave your loving care again
take we home , oh mudder, fadder take we home
we promise not to fret and give you cause to send us back to get...

Wait a minute, trucks are coming...
pillows, blankets, things are humming
If things keep on so improving
mudder, fadder from Mausica we're not moving!

Thanks to the younger Mausicans among the pioneers who were able to correct my hazy Tobago memory of these lyrics.

Hello Errol,
Hope your stay in Tobago was as you intended and some. I enjoyed the events and seeing so many of the alumni.
However, I tried the site listed at the front desk at Mt. Irvin but to no avail. Please be kind enough to provide same. Hope you enjoy the rest of your stay in Trinidad.

I came home on Friday evening, took one look at the pile of e mail , did two replies and closed down! I stayed away from the computer yesterday.
Wasn't Tobago wonderful? Alphonsus, meeting you at Crown Point Airport was a nice 'lágniappe. George Bobb, hanks for the Checkpoint info... I was successful in finding shoes, ably assisted by Barbara and others.
You have to know I'm still wearing my ID bracelet! Best wishes... see you in Grenda if not before. Pat
Annette, thanks for urging us to sing Hello mudder...! I'll send the words on to Errol soon.
RE: Mausica Allumni Award Of Excellence
2007-Jul-25
MAUSICA ALLUMNI OF ONTARIO AWARD OF MERIT

PRESENTED TO
ERROL LASHLEY
FOR EXIBITING
THE MAUSICA SPIRIT
BY GIVING OF HIS TIME
UNCONDITIONALLY FOR
THE BENEFIT OF ALL
PRESENTED JULY 20-24
TOBAGO. W.I.

The preceding is the inscription on a plaque presented to me at “The Rendezvous 03/07” on the occasion of the Gala Dinner/Dance on 2007-Jul-25-Wed.
I hereby extend my heartfelt thanks to the members of the Mausica Alumni of Ontario for bestowing this honour on me. I accepted it with tremendous pride.
I do believe in the Mausica Spirit and I simply wanted to make a small contribution at keeping that Spirit alive. It now appears that my contribution was a little more than small. It was truly heart warming to have so many individuals come up to me over the course of the three days in Tobago to express appreciation for those efforts. Prior to that, some people had sent e-mails expressing their thanks for the service. I even had a card mailed to me, “Errol, Best wishes and thanks for doing what you do so well!”, which is representative of all your comments. Teachers do know how to motivate.
The truth is I’m only a messenger. People slipped notes under my office door, so to speak, and I implemented the suggestions. I wish to express my gratitude to all of the Mausicans who sent in the e-mails and especially those who shared their reminiscences of their days at Mausica. You all made the pursuit of a hobby so enjoyable.
I cannot take all the credit though. A Mausican first asked if there was a web site. When I found none I created one - then another wanted to know if copies of previous e-mails were available and the blog was born.
I want to thank you all for making the job so easy and down-right rewarding. Without your contributions the award would not have been possible. This award must be shared with you all but I’m keeping it. I’ll always treasure it on your behalf.
I look forward to the next reunion in Grenada and all the e-mail traffic that it will generate and hopefully more Mausica History. I shall continue to perform the same service until advances in the technology dictate otherwise.
In the meantime, please pass on my e-mail address to other Mausicans. I’ve made it my mission to keep us connected.
My congratulations to the other award recipient, Brenda Alexander-Perez.

Errol Lashley

P.S. I wish to extend my congratulations to the members of “The Rendezvous 03/07” organizing committee namely, Trinidad – Janice Barnes, Felix Edinborough, Hazel-Ann Gibbs DePeza, Anna Maria Mora, Barbara Mellowes; Tobago – Allan Clovis, Mike Duncan, Jasper Joefield and Eastlyn McKenzie, on a series of well-planned and flawlessly executed events. I had a marvelous time. Then again, we’ve grown accustomed to excellence from Mausicans.

My Fellow Mausicans,
Are you ready for another exciting Reunion? I'm looking forward to seeing you all in Paradise. I hear that's the new name for Tobago.
Do you remember Linda Romain? She taught History and English Lit. at Mausica. She will be attending the reunion and on her return to Trinidad will conduct a two-week Reading program at the St Mary's Home for Children in Tacarigua. She is looking for a few volunteers, books and stationery. Walk with a children's book or two or anything to enrich the students' experience. Bring gifts to Tobago. You may contact Linda via email at elainedatter2@yahoo.com. Or call me at 640-6040 in Dinsley.
Thank you for your support.
