Walton Edinborough, brother of Felix - 1963 - 1965 (Progues, Pierrot) passed away. He is being cremated in Trinidad today.

Hello Errol,
Although you are about to take your hiatus I must inform you that some Mausicans gathered at Jack Warner's on Easter Monday evening. It was on Jack and Maureen's invitation.
It was a simply delightful evening especially as our dear Fitzjames E. Williams was present (at 92) to reminisce with some of us such as Carl Smith, Fergie, Progues, Mennen Walker et al. Carla and Moze as well as Versil, Yvonne and some whose names I can't readily recall (esp.after some shots of champagne).
As usual, there was much to eat and drink as well as a wide variety and, as usual, the food was very tasty. Jack asked Progues and me to compile a directory of Mausicans who are here so that they can be contacted at short notice. In that regard I am now soliciting your valuable assistance since you are the best individual to provide such info for which we thank you in advance.
You will be here tomorrow so I shall be looking forward to our usual chat.

My name is Maura Cooseelal from Sangre Grande, Trinidad. I accidentally came upon this web site after my son typed in my surname in the Search Box on Yahoo. I came upon Mausica Graduates and my curiousity peaked. I believe I have met you when you lived in Trinidad. I know you are married to Penny Gumbs who was my old school mate from primary school and the Superville family and my famil;y Goin-Cooseelal go back many years. I just wanted to update you a bit. Shirley Romain, was a Grenadian student who graduated in 1969. She died in Canada about 2 years ago. I am retired now but did enjoy my years immensely. I love it so much I returned to teach Remedial reading in the Secondary School. I work on a two year contract. Well Take care and keep up the good work.

Anna Maria Mora conducted a very successful Parenting workshop on Montserrat in 2003. I had never met her before the reunion of that year but I went away carrying her vibes. By happenstance I found her book PARENTS ARE YOU LISTENING? In Antigua on my way home and knew she could be the person to do this workshop. We asked, she responded and WOW! We wish she could re locate to Montserrat. Finding the right people to carry on the work she is doing in Trinidad is key... it is not a job but a 24/7 vocation. Life continues to dish out the high and low points. On the low points my condolences to Allister, darling wife and children on the passing of a dear lovable Dad and a stalwart in the field of Education. Condolences also to Thora. Best and her family. More importantly, a note of deep sadness and grief for all those who sorrow at the lost of our youth and others who are gone and going too soon without rhyme or reason, and without accomplishing their purpose.. We need to put our minds and hearts together and produce a workable solution to stop that haemorrhage
On the other hand Congratulations! to Efebo. You have always made your year group 1966-1968 feel very proud. To all the others who are excelling in their Fields Congrats

Mr. Phillips was a family friend who was instrumental in my getting in to Mausica, after my application went missing. When Mr. Phillips walked across the upper level balcony while we were in an assembly, all the female students would look upward. When we wore sunglasses in his afternoon classes he would say "You can sleep in my class as long as you dream the facts" He was an amazing man, my condolences go out to his family.

Congratulations to Efebo, I have not yet read papers for the day and did not see the news, if it is on the news. It is also very interesting that so many Mausicans are asking for a special school for young people and Mariama Children's Museum and Teen Turf: The Counselling and Activity Center for Children and Adolescents was founded in 1990 as a preventive programme and had served over 2000 young people and families since. It has survived and is still running 17 years after without any permanent funding. Last month after 17 years of trying I finally had a meeting with The Ministry of Social Development to work on a monthly subvention to at least help pay the rent. Much documents to get prepared though. You all know the red tape. I would really like to hand over this programme to some committed committee to keep it running. It is growing and is getting really too much for "me one". There is a small management committee now made up of three friends of mine, a parent has just come on board and a student who is a beneficiary of the programme and is a teacher in a secondary school after graduating from UWI last year. He is doing so well now. I can hand it over to the Mausica Alumni. I have been really consumed by this programme, which is ready now to take off, with the right help, the right staff, which I am prepared to train etc, etc. Remember though, that it is not a school, it is a safe space for young people and children to come in and feel free to be, a non-judgemental, genuine, empathic environment.They learn to love themselves and each other. Academic subjects are done, but passing examinations is not the focus. Learning and growing in faith in self and knowledge are. Academic subjects are done, with their peers as the tutors. Nineteen and seventeen year olds tutor 11- 16 year olds, and I do the personal-social development, and we gradually see grades going up.Our African Ancestors said that "It takes a Village to raise a Child" Mausicans can be that village. What do you all think?

Hi Euline, Yes, sadly Justice Winston Best was Thora's father. It is really a sad day in Trinidad and Tobago and for many of us. Also, I am sure that many of you know that that Betha and Brenda La Hee's Mother also died and was buried the same time as Mr. Phillip, They were also with us in Tobago.

I went to the funeral of Mr Best this morning. Yes, he was the father of Thora Best. A grand funeral it was with the Archbishop officiating and police escort to the cemetery. Our country mourns.
Some of you may have known Lance Heath. He attended the funeral of Mr Phillips and after the funeral while eating in the gathering of friends at the Credit Union office he fell ill, got a stroke, and died this week. May his soul rest in peace.

I am bursting with pride. When I tell people that I am trini to de bone, they see a party-girl, but that is not what I am. I am a nurturer of people, and take enormous pride in the achievements of everyone whose life I have touched..
Way to go Mausican.! Let us keep the recognition and significant leadership thing going.
Houw I wish that we could capture that spirit once again,in a special school to save our youth who are daily, the victims of drugs and gunfire!
When The Hon.Orville London spoke at the formal dinner in Tobago, saying that there was something special about us, I wanted to shout out "we believed in unlimited possibilities"but tht would have been inappropriate for a silverhaired older woman at a formal dinner. Nonetheless, I believe in our endless possibilities.
While we mourn the passing of Mr. Wilfred Phillips, who was the principal of Tranquility the year my son Larry spent in Trinidad, in place of eight grade, I think of him, and Harry Joe, Fanny Ropchand and Isiah Boodhoo raising a toast to Lester. I shall be proud to refer to him as His Excellency, Mr.Ambassador. Along with Dr. Robertson at the Consul General Office in New York, that makes two whom I know personally. Again, I am so proud!!

I attended Mausica from 1968-70. One of the fond memories of Mr. Phillips is when he asked a student a question in Maths and received a wrong answer. Mr. Phillip's response :
" I bowl you a ball. You aint even check to see whether it is a googlie, an off-break or a chinaman. You just step down the wicket and leggo a voop'.

I was able to pay my final respects to Mr Phillips at the funeral service last Friday. Several Mausicans were in attendance, pioneers and others, and we were treated to a glimpse into the life of a great man who had so many facets to his life. I was amazed to hear how much he had accomplished for himself and especially for others in his 88 years on the planet. It was also mentioned that he was to have written some type of credit union exam last year which would have made him the most qualified in the Caribbean..isn't that amazing . I think we are fortunate to have been tutored by such a man.Jack Warner spoke on behalf of Mausicans.

Guess everyone knows by now that Mr. Best is indeed Thora's father. Strange enough I saw him on tv when I was home for Carnival and remarked to my husband that Mr, Best looked so well and I had not seen him in years. He was a stalwart of the PNM, although I have not read of that much in the press. May he rest in peace.
As for Mr. Phillips, I always thought of him as larger than life.
Judy Lum York (1968- 1970) passed away recently, too. I was so shocked when Maria told me. Do you remember Judy with the long flowing hair? During initiation she held Freddy the frog without fuss while I wanted to die. She gave me courage all through initiation. We kept in touch for a long while after Mausica. I used to visit her at her home in Malick.
I came down to Trinidad for Keith Sobion's funeral a couple of weeks ago and I saw Mrs Dolabaille ( cannot remember her first name) ( 1967-69) boarding the same flight out of Miami. I almost did not recognize her until they called out her name. I did not get to speak to her , though.
I am on a retreat for the whole of the coming weekend and will pray for good health and the safety of all my fellow Mausicans and their families. We have been ordered to bring no radios, no books, no magazines, no laptops, no watches, no cell phones even. I do not know how I will survive. Maybe you need to pray for me. I do not know what it is to have a weekend without work from Friday evening to Sunday night.

Strange enough I saw him on tv when I was home for Carnival and remarked to my husband that Mr, Best looked so well and I had not seen him in years. I read the obituary on the Express newspaper about a month ago which reported the death of the father of Dr. Clyde Legall(69-71). He was buried at Tunapuna. I know of Wilfred Phillip from Teachers' Credit Union but could you tell me of his connection to Mausica?

RE: MAUSICA WEEKLY EMAILS

I remember a graphic demonstration of the area of a circle by Mr Phillips who was so in love with Maths. It is a tribute to him that I opted to do that as one of my lessons for a moderated teaching practice ( I got a Distinction in TP ). Does any one else remember HIS pronunciation of PERSEVERANCE? He always said : PER SEVERANCE ( as in severance pay!). He was a giant of a man in more ways than one. May he rest in eternal peace.

Wilfred Phillips was one of our great teachers. I was able to say this to his son, Allisford, fellow Glory Guy, and member of the 1967-89 year group, at our recent reunion in Tobago. I was very fond of this great man, who on more than one occasion in my student life at Mausica, had a kind word for me. He will be among the angels. Scratchy.

I visited Mr. Phillip on Feb. 11 while he was hospitalised. His memory was somewhat fading, but he did remember Maureen Mathews-Warner, Versil Bayne-Ferguson and I. I also visited Mr. Williams on that day and his memory is phenomenol. Will ask Maureen to extend condolences on our behalf.

Mr Phillip died this morning. I have just returned from his home. I spoke to his wife this morning who sounded very distressed at his condition. She said that she did not like how he was breathing. I went to the home to be of some comfort and assistance, but he died before I arrived. I waited with her and the family until the undertakers had taken the body. The day of funeral depends on the arrival of his son who lives in the USA.

At our last meeting, we agreed that we would make a donation to some community group and it was suggested that I visit a literacy group in Malvern. Further to the message below which I sent out on December 18, I would suggest that we donate $200. to this program. Can we have an email vote on this?

Barbara and I visited Malvern After-School Intergenerational Program which is operated out of Church of the Nativity by former educators Eunice Chaderton and Claudette Antoine with the help of volunteers. (More volunteers are needed.) The students are assisted with homework and they receive instruction in reading, math, drama, guitar, drumming, computer. The students receive a nutritious meal prepared on the premises by a volunteer who has experience in nutrition.

The group receives some funding from Parkdale Golden Age Foundation, but this is not enough. A Read-A-Thon is being held on January 18, 2008 from 6 to 8pm. Guests are invited to come and read with the children. Sponshorship forms are available by calling 416-289-0903.

Dear to my heart is the idea that the group that assembles there, does something to benefit the Grenada community, in the area of education, like what Anna Maria and others did in Tobago. I have a workshop- interactive, participatory, called Journeys of Migration, that I have done to US groups explaining who we are as Trinis, and of course as Grenadians. I would gladly do it for a group of teachers. It could be used to inspire a love of history, literature and culture. Would come in a day earlier to do this during a weekday.During my time as a trainig officer for CFPA, I loved doing workshops to which an adult brought a kid. It gives a very different perspective.
Also, I throw out the suggestion of "books for Grenada". We could all bring a book or two to donate to a teachers' library at the public library, or to the Teachers' Association of Grenada, or to the Min. of Education's professional library that is accessible to teachers. We could then publicly present the books at the official opening function.
I am always stunned when I go back home, and see the high price of reading based on the cost of books. Our going theere should make a difference, professionally.

I remember one suggestion discussed was that it would be great if the dates could coincide with any local festivals. I know we all enjoyed the Heritage Fair. Another was maybe we could stay closer together geographically, and a third which is tied to the second was that we needed to be close and have time to hang out and just shoot the breeze – maybe at a local facility.

Just a personal bit. I have accepted an offer as professor at University of Trinidad and Tobago, and am leaving University of Minnesota after 18 years and heading back home to start in September. Some may know that UTT has a campus at O'Meara. I have been spending time there lately, and its proximity to Mausica makes this change a homecoming in more than one way. Scratchy.

In pre-volcanic times, Rachel Collis wrote a serialized adventure story for children, which appeared each week in the Montserrat Reporter under the name the Emerald Isle of Adventure. She is now publishing it as a book, and it is a welcome addition to the growing number of Caribbean books for children. Adults will enjoy it too.
Emerald Isle of Adventure begins in Houston, Texas, but quickly moves to Montserrat. Jenny, a divorced American mother of two, travels to Montserrat with her Montserratian friend Kevin and her two children, eleven year old Michael and nine year old Tammy.
Tammy is happy about the trip and her Mom’s relationship with Kevin, while Michael resents both Kevin and the Montserrat trip. This soon improves though, once they arrive in Montserrat.
The children get involved in a series of adventures, whether it is getting lost while chasing an iguana, getting to know fishermen on the beach, learning Montserrat dialect, making friends with a dolphin while diving, getting butt by a ram goat or going up the mountain to meet the “mountain man”. Helping the police in a night raid at the beach, coping with a hurricane, getting lost in the Soufriere Hills, being shipwrecked on Redonda, and nearly drowning trying to rescue a friend are more exciting incidents that Michael and his friend Kareem get into.
Issues like race, cultural differences, divorce, discipline, sibling rivalry, Rastafarian beliefs, and gender differences in bringing up children, are addressed as they come up in a straightforward and matter of fact way.
The book is full of pre-volcano touches, like travelling to Montserrat by BWIA and LIAT, driving through Eastern villages, and shopping in Plymouth; then there is the trip to Galways plantation and soufriere, the bamboo forest, Ghaut Mefraime and Tar River. All these references give the story a historical touch which adults will appreciate, and which will give children an insight into pre-volcano times. Montserratians will also appreciate the many references to local culture, like goatwater, souse, local hospitality, eating from a calabash, a political meeting and many more.
With forty-five chapters the book is long, but the chapters themselves are short and are full of dialogue and action, which carry you forward to see what will happen next. This book will make an ideal present for children and for the whole family to enjoy, and a good souvenir for returning Montserratians and Montserrat-lovers to take back with them. The book is being published by Amazon and should be available soon.

She taught French and Spanish for many years and made great contributions to Sport, especially netball, on the island. Emerald isle of adventure is a very good read for all ages. Over the past months, on your Mausica website, I have seen seversl enquiries regarding the whereabouts of a former Mausican, named Selwyn Ahyoung. Whenever possible, I have e-mailed a response directly to the person seeking the information. Just recently, from one of your e-mail information sheet, another person is also asking about Selwyn Ahyoung.. Instead of my replying directly, maybe you can post the following , for general dissemination.
Selwyn Ahyoung, a fellow Mausica alumnus ( the 1969-1971 yr. group,I think), was my brother-in-law. He passed away in 1987 after suddenly lapsing into a diabetic coma, from which he never revived. He was survived by his wife and one son. Presently, they live somewhere in Florida. Selwyn was one of a family of seven children, ( five girls and two boys). Two of his sisters residehere in Canada, while the rest of his siblings, all still live in Trinidad. Incidentally, one of his sisters, Adsum Ahyoung-Aloi by name, is also a Mausica graduate.
Selwyn was the person who composed the Mausica Teachers' College Anthem.
This is all the relevant information that I am able to provide.Special New Year's greetings and wishes to you and all of our fellow Mausica alumni.

Dear friends
Having been silent for such a long time I felt I should at least give some sign of life( I have been twice ïnvited" to unsubscribe! I so wanted to share the Shanghai Special Olympics experience of October, but time has gone by. The upside of that is that the experience continues in the e mails I receive from some of our University student aides who were of such great assistane to us, often at personal sacrifice of time and family visits... bear in mind that each is the ONLY child of the family and that they are at University during the week... some time off was given to allow them to be a part of the support system for the Olympics. Some have told me that they are now on a short list for the games in Beijing next year and ALL of them have now become very active in support of special needs children whom they touch base with at weekends. That is so wonderful
On Montserrat we are trying to keep Special Olympics and support for special needs people in our community a reality but we need VOLUNTEERS at all levels: training, transport, socialisation, help at events... the list is endless. We have had to say goodbye to the Foote family who were a tremendous support team, Kirsten Carty also leaves us soon. Kurt Foote was our official Trainer and anyone who knows Tammy Foote knows how many slots she filled in the community. Their children,Tyler, Travis Caleb and Parker always pitched to help and were particularly supportive of our special athletes. If anyone out there wants to know how they can help just give me an e mail shout . Get your friends on island to join us too. We want to start a swimming programme as well.
Life on island during the past year has been great in some areas but leadership at the political level still leaves much to be desired. We are still to see anything of the promised INTEGRITY LEGISLATION which is apparently not getting the support of the Chief Minister's colleagues. This was the pillar of his political campaign. Most of you have probably seen festival events on www.zjb.gov.ms so i wont go into details here. I am looking forward to the calypso finals . I always want Herman Cupid Francis to win because he has a unique perspective... the Title of the song is only a tease and I wait in anticipation to see where he will come from! His voice souds much better this year and I hope it holds out.
Finally, I was very pleased to hear that Dino Baker of MSS was given a Funky Man Award last evening at the Cultural Centre. Dino had been the first to admit that he was on a negative trail and decided to do something about it. In a school culture where a relative handful of students give the institution a really bad name, he has decided practically on his own to make a difference in his life. He is bright and intelligent and a B+ average for his recent efforts is evidence of this. My wish is that others will follow his lead.
Best wishes to all of you for 2008, a leap year when they say good things happen and when, according to the legend of Sadie Hawkins ( remember the Lil Abner comic strip? ) unmarried ladies who have their eyes on an eligible male are allowed to propose... go for it ladies! Some guys are really shy and some think you are too good for them so help them out!

My house and my heart are full. We went to Midnight Mass at the cathedral, where a full orchestra was in attendance,and by 10.000 there were no seats left. The service was in German and English. God had an opera done in His honor! My Muslim protege went up to the altar to be blessed by the bishop, in her first ever Christian service and Christmas celebration. the Catholic girl from Malawi took communion with us.
At breakfast, my girlfriend brought venison sausages, a gift of her neighbour, and we ate tangerines off my tree, picked yesterday. We prayed in Arabic, in the langaugae of the Malawi, which I cannot pronounce, much less spell, and in English. One prayer was offfered by a Vietnamese Buddhist convert to Anglicanism, who now sings in the church choir.

The Archdiocesan Communication Commission (ACC) is organizing a pilgrimage to Lourdes and Fatima to take place next year, 2008, from September 17 – 27 as Lourdes will be celebrating the 150th anniversary of the apparition of the Virgin to Bernadette. It is interesting to note here that as a special spiritual benefit to pilgrims, the Pope has stated that Catholics who visit the miracle shrine (at Lourdes) over the next year will receive indulgences. A recent release from the Vatican states that plenary indulgences will be granted to pilgrims visiting the shrine during the year from December 8, 2007, until December 8, 2008.
Should you join this pilgrimage you will first arrive in Portugal via Miami where you will visit Santarem, site of the Eucharistic Miracle. In Fatima you will go to see the Basilica containing the tombs of Jacinta and Francisco, two of the children to whom Mary appeared in 1917. You will also see the sites connected with the Apparitions – the village of Fatima, homes of the children, the church where they were baptized.
From Fatima you will cross into the Spanish countryside where you will experience the beautiful Cathedrals of Salamanca and Burgos. From there you will proceed into the Pyrenees and then to Lourdes where you will spend three days. Here you will participate in the evening processions, attend Mass at the Grotto of the Apparitions, and visit places connected with the life of St Bernadette. You will also participate in the Blessed Sacrament Procession, the Blessing of the sick, and bathe in the miraculous waters.
The latest news coming out of the Vatican is that the Pope is expected to visit Lourdes next year, possibly in September or October. We are hoping that he will be there during our visit.
After the stay in Lourdes where you will have a free day to do whatever you want, you will travel to Montserrat, Spain’s most sacred mountain. Here you will visit the Romanesque Monastery and the shrine of the Virgin of Montserrat, also known as “La Moreneta or Black Virgin, because of her dark complexion. It is then back to T&T via Miami

Seasons greetings and a blessed Christmas to all. Tonight it's calypso semi finals on Montserrat and I've been resting up as much as possible all week to go and enjoy. I stopped singing in competition ( YES, ME!) five years ago. I peaked very early and came third in the open competition at my first attempt... actually the first time a woman made it to winners row! after that I made it to finals and semis a few times but it takes a lot of energy so I called it a day contest wise. tell you about the results later on. This is our festival season in tandem with Christmas.

It was an absolute delight to meet so many members of the clan in Tobago this year. I can't wait for 2009, God's willing it. The year opened with tears , but is ending with smiles. Congratulations to all the authors and other achievers. Keep on keeping on. Where ever we go we seem to shine in spite of circumstances. I feel blessed to be a Mausican.

Thanks for keeping us informed. I too "read" the Express first thing in the morning. The positive actions seem to get less media attention and fewer comments. A Thelma Cross suggested that if each person simply did what they were supposed to do... obey the rules, be polite and considerate etc life would change for everyone. Her suggestions began with : What If...? followed by positive actions. Of course some know better came up with his set of What ifs: what if everone became a vigilante etc.. it really sickened me.
From time to time I post comments, some of which are printed. I shared my thoughts on communities reclaiming schools so that students could have a sense of belonging and also not have to spend long hours getting to and from schools which are far away from their communities. The Government just needs to equip all schools adequately so that each would in time become a "prestige school" whatever that means nowadays. In the meantime though we can all pray for the light to shine in the hearts and minds of our people.

When that hymn to our country was composed for Independence in 1962, I was twenty-one, and was so proud of the fact that my country and I had come of age together. I still love that land with a pasion, that if a man was the beneficiary of it, it would burn him to ashes, so intense it is.
Recently, though, in reading the Express on-line(www,trinidadexpress.com) I have become aware that a lot of Trinis do not love their country, begining with the speech given by the leader of the opposition when his party lost. Daily, if you read the comments that bloggers are allowed to attach to the Express, you would see that absence of love coming through, even though most of the comments stick to the topic of the news.(I have met political refugees from brutal regimes in their countries, who if the leadership changed, would go home tomorrow. Some have had legs or arms chopped off. They still love their country).
I live five minutes from a mall where a young woman on opening her store, was shot to death by a man who then committed suicide. There was another major shooting at a mall in Omaha this week. Americans do not talk of moving from their country because of crime, they work to try to find solutions to the problem. Canadians do not move from their country because an overzealous immigration official tazered a Polish immigrant and caused his death, they work to try to prevent this from happening again, through the legislative process and other means.This is love of country.
It well may be, that those who constantly condemn Trinidad and Tobago in the media were not the beneficiaries of anything- not free education, free medical care, free and low-cost computers that the government subsidized for children, low cost housing, or anything else, including the invaluable fact of living and growing in a multi-racial society. This results in our ability to fit in to any country in the world. There are those who see no good whatsover in the place.
Occasionally, I help prepare oil company personnel to go down there to work. The picture they are given by all this is one of a nation on the edge of imminent racial warfare.If this were so, no person would dare take a maxi or other taxi if it was driven by someone other than their own race. No person would buy food in a restaurant, if it was prepared by someone of another race, no person would have friends of any other race but their own. Many of us have families that include every race.African,Chinese, European and Indian.
You all know that none of this is happening. During the summer just ended, after the reunion, my American friend and I ,she is a high school counsellor, spent two weeks living on the campus of UWI, and taking maxi-taxis to the St. Mary's Children's Home, where along with Merle Howe, and Rodney Foster, we volunteered to help as reading teachers. My friend and I walked from Citizen's Bank in Tunapuna, back to the campus, so she could get a sense of small stores and wayside markets. We walked from the campus to Hi-Lo and came back carrying gallon bottles of water. We walked all over the shopping areas of down-town Port-of-Spain, including Charlotte Street. We took taxi to Diego Martin, and got soaked at the Emancipation Celebration. We flirted with the ten year old boy being money-minder for his parent's bake and shark stall at the Emancipation Village. We saw no crime. We were not threatened. We came to no harm. Perhaps because we were praying souls, doing God's work? It has to be more than that.
We drove through Central, shopped at the Chaguanas Market, and at roadside stalls, accompanied by two men in their late seventies. We came to no harm.
Yet, if you read the commentaries, and the headlines in the papers, you would think that the place was a wild west village, where shooting up each other was the order of the day. Of course, none of us are involved in drugs either, so that may have something to do with how we coped.
There is also a tendency, I have observed in some of the daily papers, to ridicule every institution in the country, beginning with the Office of the President. It is as if a whole lot of people wish they were born elsewhere, and had loyalties other than that owed to their land of birth. Loyalties that they could be proud of. Many of us are retired, and can no longer direct students in the ideas of being loyal to their country, but I appeal to you, at this Advent time of renewal, and preparation, to pray daily for our country, for all of our people, of whatever faith, that they may turn their thoughts and actions towards the good of all; that they will act as people of goodwill towards all men and women.
There must be a thousand of us left alive still, and if these one thousand people say the words of that song at the start of this piece, daily, with fervour, I am sure we would have moved our country closer to where all desire it to be. Leaders of a nation are not God, but God can direct their paths in working for the good of all. Let us pray that the composer of God Bless Our Nation, would be blessed,he and his descendants, for giving us those words of inspiration.
During the Christmas holidays, I will host two African scholars at my home, one from North Africa, is a Muslim, the other is from Burundi and is a Christian. Include all three of us, in your prayers and good wishes also. The Fulbright Program, under whose aegis they are in the USA, aims to bring people closer to understanding through education. It also sends Americans abroad for the same purpose. We can move closer to the Peace of God that passeth all understanding. All good wishes for the new year, to all of you.
Have an enjoyable Christmas season, and remember, the most significant message of HIS ministry is: Love One Another As I Have Loved You.

Every year one of my friends, Gwen Green, holds two events at which poets write their thoughts on a quote. This year the quote came from Malaika Fvorite, an artist and a writer : "There is no place for a mountain to move." Attached are my two pieces which I read to the audience on Dec15th. By the way, there is a Trinidadian in Winnipeg, Jume Springer from La Romain, who would like me to visit and promote my books and CD there. She says there is a TNT association in Winnipeg. Do you have any contacts in Winnipeg?

MOVING ON
My biggest mountain is the closed mind.
Both in myself and others.
Members of the “Yes, but’, and “I know, but” group.
The kind that is triple-reinforced with ignorance, fear and prejudice,
Those weapons of mass destruction.
Unmoved by a preponderance of evidence to the contrary,
They hold fast to falsehoods, hearsay and emotional rhetoric.
No keys of knowledge can unlock such biased minds,
No light can penetrate their darkness
For they have learned to function in that environment,
Frustrating the hell out of teachers like you and me.
Therefore, we must learn to let go and move on To enlighten more fertile, receptive minds.
Perhaps one day their teacher would come along.

Peace must replace war, love hatred, humility arrogance and action passivity.

Hello Errol,
When we were in Tobago recently for the Reunion, there was a fellow Mausican, who presented a slide show depicting various aspects of Mausica life. I believe his name was Richard, but I can’t recall his last name.
The slides were in a very bad shape and they were beginning to fall apart in the projector. Anyhow, he asked me to take them back with me to see what could be done to salvage this piece of Mausica treasure. I have since checked around here in Vancouver, and there is a Photo Shop that will transfer the slides to DVD or other digital formats for $1.00 per slide (plus taxes). There are approximately 200 slides in the container.
If there is interest in preserving the slides, then invite people to respond in writing with their suggestions; and have Richard (or whoever gave me the slides) to contact me as follows. After November 19th, e-mail me at Selwyn_jacob@telus.net (selwyn underscore Jacob)

Thank you very much for taking the time to comment on the video, Harry Joe's Children, and specifically for your insights into some of the events and personalities referenced in it. We all have our individual connection to Mausica in general, and Mr Joseph, in particular. In my day I did a mean imitation of Mr Joseph, and we developed a kind of respect for one another, as a result.
But just as there is no definitive Mausica experience, I am sure there is not a singular response to the video, and I hope that it strikes a chord in each and every Mausican, in some manner; and cumulatively, the those individual experiences would be far greater than the individual video, as Harry Joe might have pointed out in one of his classes.
One story that stands out for me from the video goes as follows: Florence Harvey Sorias, who lives in Toronto, tells the story of being saved from drowning by a fellow Mausican while on an excursion. Last year on a visit to New York, I ran into Elmo Phillip (64-66) and he confirmed Florence's story, and added that he was the person who saved her from drowning. He subsequently called her and they re-connected after several decades.
I am sure there are dozens of unusual stories hidden in all of the footage seen in the video, but we wouldn't know until someone identifies them.
Thanks for starting something, maybe there are lots of other stories out there.
Regarding the archiving of the video, I have asked Felix Edinborough to drop off a copy at the National Library, as you suggested.
