Fellow mausicans,
Attached please find basic Layout for Tower and Suite style dorm accommodation. Graduate housing is similar to Suite style but each unit has its own kitchenette and can also have more than two bedrooms. Also Grad housing is one of the newer buildings on campus.

Hello Errol,
Mausica Alumni and Friends is a fantastic group and will host another memorable reunion in 2011.
Last week I shared an idea with Buzzie and she suggested that I post it on the " Mausica Weekly".
Since there are so many Mausican entrepreneurs, I think that a Business Networking session would be  an excellent opportunity to inform one another of the products and services we provide. Therefore, authors, travel agents, attorneys, artists, publishers, DJs, IT specialists, foreign language teachers, toute monde, please contact me if you are interested in displaying your talents at the reunion.
You may contact me at 404-501-9277 or rodneyfoster4050@comcast.net

Hi Errol,
Today I attended a Teachers'Retirees meeting and guess what people from '64-'66? I met Dennis Ramlal.I sat next to him and introduced myself and discovered that he was from my year group. We had not seen each other for 44 years. He lived in Fair Haven and his room mate was Ottley. He is now joining our blog. His is dennisramlal1@yahoo.com. The character next to '@'is the digit one.
Myrdith, he remembers you and wanted to know what became of Joyce Ramdeen who seems to have dropped of the face of the earth.

Greetings everyone
I went to the optamologist yesterday to see about my eyes (apparently too many dazzling ladies in TT) and saw Ms. Hordatt...We had a long chat. She's very alert and remembers a lot and was even using the cellphone. She also expressed concerns about teacher training and feels that in addition to the university degree, there should be  professional certification similar to what obtains in the law field of law.  She will be 92 years young on January 1st.
All the best to her.
keep up the good work Errol.

Good one. The musicians mentioned and their works were part of my exixtence here on earth, and they do evoke pleasant memories.
I have always wondered when some one would identify the many nameless musicians who accompanied calypsonians.
By the way I think Dorothy beats Maria into 2nd place.
May I be so bold as to mention that the best guitar accompanyment on a calypso recording could be heard on Sparrow's 'No Money, No Love.'
Thanks for a great job.

Errol, please post this on the blog. Thanks
My Fellow Mausicans,
I wish to say thank you to those who responded to our Announcement and Survey regarding the Big Apple Reunion 2011. We are pleased to announce that we have received more than 120 responses and this has been very helpful to our Planning Committee. We are now able to negotiate and make reservations on all fronts. Responses are still coming in and we do expect an increase in our guest list. So lets go Mausicans!!! Mark your calendars Tuesday, July 26th to Friday, July 29th 2001. New York! New York!!
Attached is the Housing Accommodation for the Reunion. Negotiations are still continuing. There are a number of people who did not state if they needed housing accommodation but we are hoping that people would lean towards accommodation at Hofstra University Campus. There will be enough rooms for all and sundry.
The Reunion will follow a similar format of past reunions. Registration forms, schedule of events and cost will be released shortly, as we are still working out details of same. I hope this will be helpful to all.
Buzzie

HOUSING ACCOMMODATION
FOR
MAUSICA BIG APPLE REUNION 2011
We are pleased to inform you that negotiations for hosting our BIG APPLE REUNION 2011 have begun with Hofstra University. This campus is conveniently located in Hempstead, Long Island and is close to the major international airports and just 40 minutes outside of New York City. The following information is intended as an early guide towards your financial planning. It must be remembered that these are Residence Hall facilities for Students.
Hofstra University has offered us three types of housing facilities:
(1) SUITE STYLE HOUSING: (semi-private bathrooms)
Double Occupancy: US $43.00 per person, per night
Single Occupancy: US $53.00 per person, per night
The suite style housing consists of a two–story complex made up of units. Each unit consists of two adjoining rooms with a total of four (4) single beds per unit. There are 10 units in each complex. Each unit will share one bathroom.
(2) TOWER HOUSING: (communal bathrooms)
Double Occupancy: US $35.00 per person, per night.
Single Occupancy: US $45.00 per person, per night.
All members should add a fee of $10.00 for linen packets: 1blanket, 1pillow, 1 pillow case, 2 sheets and two towels.
Tower housing is a 13- floor complex which can house the entire group.
Communal style bathrooms consist of 4 showers, 6 sinks, 4 toilets.
There are two communal bathrooms on each floor.
Single rooms and double rooms are available in this complex.
(3) GRADUATE RESIDENCE HALL
Double Occupancy: US $60.00 per person, per night.
Single Occupancy: US $70.00 per person, per night.
Linen is included.
The Graduate housing is a 5-story residential facility consisting of apartment/suite style living. Each suite has multiple bedrooms with shared common spaces: kitchenette and bathroom. This facility houses both single and double bedrooms with 3 basic suite types: 4 bedroom suites, 3 bedroom suites and 2 bedroom suites.
The link below has visuals for your review:
Hhp://www.hofstra.edu/StudentAffairs/studentServices/ResLife/reslif_panoramas_grad.html
We do encourage members to opt for our housing accommodation, even though we are aware that most people have relatives in Brooklyn. It helps to preserve the idea of “reunion” and to relive the “hostel” days of yesteryear! We hope to provide transportation to our scheduled activities in Manhattan and the surrounding areas.
We also want to give you additional information regarding hotels or guest houses within proximity to Hofstra University with varying rates for those who might be interested. Rooms can accommodate 2 to 3 persons.
The following are:
(a) Coliseum Motor Inn, East Meadow; Group Rate $100 per night, taxes included. Tel# 516-794-2100
(b) Red Roof Inn, Westbury; Group rate $135 per night. Tel # 516-794-2555.
La Quinta, Garden City; Group rate $159. per night. Tel #
(d) Long Island Marriot; $164 per night Tel # 516-794-3800
Hope this information would be helpful in your choice of housing accommodation.
Please email your questions and concerns to Buzziett@aol.com.
Warm wishes,
The Planning Committee

Hi All,
Condolences to all Mausicans and EJ's relatives.
I've had no connnection with the real world for over a month and have just found out about EJ's passing. We have lost another great Mausican. I remember he has always had a smile on his face. I'm sure Lennox Brathwaite tried unsuccessfully to get in touch with me.
During the second week that I spent at Mausica, EJ came to Villa Nova to invite the ladies to play lawn tennis. Only a few of us responded and somehow the games did not last long. May he rest in peace.

RE: Remembering EJ

2010-SEP-08-2041Hrs
Hi Errol
Greetings to you and the Mausica Family. I am sending condolences to the family of the late EJ. It was just like yesterday we saw him in Grenada, I was shocked at his passing. He did live a full life.I remember you sitting next to EJ on the return flight to T&T after the Grenada reunion. Do you remember the flight attendant who had an attitude, and what was said about her?. She was the one who was commanding passengers to fix their overhead luggage (lol).
Angela Cato-Ifill and I attended EJ's funeral service along with some other Mausicans. We saw Maureen Matthew-Warner, Eulalie Henry-Lawrence, Versil Bain-Ferguson, Jason Hernandez, Alfred Wafe, Joan Wilkinson, Donald Walker, Lennox Austin, Desmond Thornhill, and Jean Henry. It was a mini reunion at the funeral. Other Mausicans may have been there but it was such a large gathering that I might have missed them. I am sharing a photo of EJ with the Mausica family. It was taken at the Grenada reunion last year (he is on the left wearing spectacles) MAY HIS SOUL REST IN PEACE

Hi Errol,
Sorry about the death of Bumbles, your dear friend.
I was just checking the blogg and realized that I'm not included among the living or dead allum. Ha! It was not always like that so it must have been that I had said my address was changed from the US, where I was 2001-2005 and it somehow was left out. Understandably with so many messages coming your way. You have my email . Anyhow other info is: Magnell Williams-Robinson 1963-1965 220 Willowdale Ave. Waterloo. On Can. N2J 3M1 .
Take care,

Errol,
That was an awesome tribute to Earl. I am still in shock. I saw Earl in Grenada - that was the first time since Graduation 1965 and was hoping he would have performed Storm for us then. I had very little contact with him while we were in college, but I remember that he was always pleasant and polite. My condolences to his family and friends.
On another sad note - I am extending my deepest sympathy to June Raphael-Martin, her family and friends. June was part of a group who spent a day visiting Magnell recently. During our trip shespoke fondly of her father. It is gratifying to know that her memories of him brought so many smiles to her face.
Let's create good memories while we have the chance.

I am still in a bit a shock and truly saddened at the passing of our FRIEND "Bumbles". I was not in regular contact with him...Il ast saw him 2-3 years ago in TnT at his office but I have always considered him my friend. We always laughed together at the college especially after he embarassed me at his favourite game, table tennis. Erroll has indeed paid him a wonderful tribute.
I would like to extend my deepest and heartfelt condolences to his family.
As I thought of Earl on the weekend and chatted with Errol about him, I was drawn back to my earliest memory of him, when he treated us pioneers to his dramatic rendition of the poem "The Storm by Walter de la Mere"...hence his nick name "STORM". Do you guys remember this? Well here it is and I wish we could all do it together and laugh for one last time for and with our dear departed friend, Earl John, aka Strorm :..

"The Storm"
by Walter de la Mare

First there were two of us, then there were three of us,
Then there was one bird ..I hmore,
Four of us--wild white sea-birds,
Treading the ocean floor;
And the wind rose, and the sea rose,
To the angry billows? roar--
With one of us--two of us--three of us--four of us
Sea-birds on the shore.

Soon there were five of us, soon there were nine of us,
And lo! in a trice sixteen!
And the yeasty surf curdled over the sands,
The gaunt grey rocks between;
And the tempest raved, and the lightning?s fire
Struck blue on the spindrift hoar--
And on four of us--ay, and on four times four of us
Sea-birds on the shore.

And our sixteen waxed to thirty-two,
And they to past three score--
A wild, white welter of winnowing wings,
And ever more and more;
And the winds lulled, and the sea went down,
And the sun streamed out on high,
Gilding the pools and the spume and the spars
?Neath the vast blue deeps of the sky;

And the isles and the bright green headlands shone,
As they?d never shone before,
Mountains and valleys of silver cloud,
Wherein to swing, sweep, soar--
A host of screeching, scolding, scrabbling
Sea-birds on the shore--
A snowy, silent, sun-washed drift
Of sea-birds on the shore.

Hello Errol:
Thank you for the wonderful tribute to Earl. I don't think I knew him; but by your description and Barbara Davis 's memory of him, we certainly have lost a good human being. Barbara( 67-69 and the wife of Trevor Davis, deceased) is here with me here in Toronto spending some vacation. She would like to be reconnected to the Mausica Blog that you so effectively keep alive.
Barbara's new email address is as follows:
bgdav62@gmail.com This replaces her former tsttemail account. Please remember to include her is all ongoing communication.
Thanks for your help.

Fellow Mausicans
The news of Earl John/ Bumbles' death took me by storm... I never saw that one coming. I was already saying to my sister that this seems to be a significant year of goodbyes... within my family, among friends with whom I grew up in Fyzabad, here on Montserrat and within the Mausica family. I know that age is a factor in all of this but that does not make it easier.. The lesson to be drawn from all of this is that we must use the time we have to let those near and dear to us know how much we cherish them and pray for them daily.
Love and blessings, Pat

Errol:
A fitting tribute which expressed the feelings of many of us who came to know EJ. A gifted organiser and "people person" he made anyone who met him welcome and comfortable. As you know, he and I had similar interests in all sports, and it is not surprising that many young athletes benefitted from his involvement in their lives.
When I last saw him around July 2009, he was the same upbeat EJ diligently completing whatever project in which he was involved and enjoying the Reunion..
He was a great friend to all of us in Mayfair Mansion and the entire Mausica family.
It remains a pleasure and an honor to have known EJ, Bumbles, Storm.

Hi Errol,
Please post on the blog.
I deeply regret the passing of our colleague and friend, Earl John. This is a very special, and emotional occasion for us all as we mourn the loss of a unique individual, a man whom we all feel privileged to have met and known over the many years. We will miss him, so let us all say a final farewell in our hearts, then let us sing and celebrate the life that he lived.
On behalf of Mausica Teachers' Alumni & Friends, New York Chapter, I extend our deepest condolences to his wife, Marceline, and his daughter Juliette.
May he rest in peace!

Earl John and Tobago

Even before I knew that Earl John was a fellow Mausican, he had a special place in the hearts of the sporting fraternity of Canaan/Bon Accord (CBA) in Tobago. He was always well received in Bon Accord. He became one of us - Ah we boy.
Every year, he would bring a contingent of athletes to the Western Springfield Track and Field meeting. He did not stay in a Guest house, but rather at the home of Leroy Bristol of CBA. He was a part of our Tobago family. We would meet during the annual Village Olympics as CBA competed against Arima in various sports. As the Tobago representative on the TTFA, I interacted with him on numerous occasions each time, with a smile on his face.
The contribution made by Earl to the country is exactly what we, as Mausicans, were entrusted with by our mentors. Don't just be teachers, go out and impact your communities. In his post Mausica years, Earl was the quintessential Mausican.
Rest in Peace Earl.

Errol, You did a wonderful tribute to your friend Earl. He was always one to be admired for his devotion to duty and I remember him as always being pleasant and one who could take a heckle and he would respond in like manner. He will be greatly missed. I am sorry that I will not be able to attend his funeral as I am now in Paraguay. Do get in touch with me when you come to Trinidad. May he rest in peace.

EARL JOHN – A TRIBUTE

MAUSICAN 1963-1965

Earl John, fondly known as EJ or Bumbles and Storm to his Mausica family only, died on Friday 20th August, 2010. I was shocked and deeply saddened by the news. He was taken away from us far too early.
Earl and I met at Mausica Teachers’ College (MTC) in 1963. I do not remember the exact circumstances of our first meeting. I do recall being accepted into a clique consisting of Annette, Sumatee and Earl. I say accepted because all three were from Arima while I was not. We frequently had meals together and enjoyed the camaraderie. Earl had a wonderful sense of humour and he made us laugh often.
During his years at MTC, Earl distinguished himself in several endeavours including the choir, coral speaking and sports. His main interest though was in sports but more so as an administrator as is demonstrated by his association with Fulham Sports Club, and later CONCACAF, FIFA, TTFF and The Trinidad and Tobago Basketball Federation. It was through his coaching and encouragement that I was able to enjoy a bit of success in my athletic pursuits at MTC.
Earl was trained as a Teacher and stayed in the profession until his retirement from the service. He was a dedicated teacher. By all accounts he was a very good teacher with his unique brand of discipline which earned him the respect of his students and their parents as well as the admiration of his colleagues.
As a friend, Earl was someone you could count on, confide in and trust. He was a gentleman and a genuine human being with all the qualities you would want in a friend. While he remained in Trinidad, I lived in Canada since 1969 and our friendship lasted well beyond the Mausica years, terminated only by his passing. We regularly exchanged letters in the early years then emails with the advent of the Internet. I enjoyed reading all of his communiqués which were mainly about sporting events involving Trinidad and the West Indies and his protégés.
Ours was an unbroken friendship for 47 years. Earl was a mentor to some, a true friend to many, a very dear friend to a few and my best friend. He will be missed by all. I will surely miss him and I shall always remember Mr. Earl Francis John.
My condolences go out to his wife, Marceline and his daughter, Juliette. May he rest in peace!

2010-AUG-13-2017Hrs Hi Errol,
I do not read the "Weekly" regularly but wish to congratulate you and all the contributors that have made it a reality and keep it interesting. Mausicans are realy a special group and that can be seen from the variety of contributions.
Where else can one get the "concerns" of Finbar or Kamla? (Abdool of course!) What I like is the goal of Pat to record a "History of the Junior Secondary Schools". To a large extent Mausicans made them successful and so too many of the students who were "educated" there. I hope the contributions will pour in but the sequel is the Senior Comprehensives. That episode our our history need to be recorded as well. So Mausicans you are still needed!

Hi Mausicans
Who can forget La Porrinden? I wanted Trevor to enter the Road march contest with it but he declined. I am back on Montserrat. Apologies to friends in Trinidad whom I did not contact... I would not have been able to answer " So when ah seein' yuh? " and chickened out. It was good to witness the political ping pong up close and personal. My abiding hope is that Trinidadians and Tobagonians, as people everywhere in the world, will appreciate what a big difference they can make simply by being DISCIPLINED!.... no speeding, no driving on the shoulder to overtake and slalom between cars! Littering has been mentioned a lot as part of the problem re floods so I won't go back there. GOD BLESS OUR NATION and I truly hope that the Mausicans on the political inside are allowed to make a difference. To Anna maria I say BON COURAGE , you are already making a difference and God willing, your day in Politics will come. Pat

Hello Erroll,
There was a problem with the pace at which the slides with the photos was moving. The viewer now has control to freeze or advance the slides.
Just go to fhe bottom right hand corner and clik on the arrows and pause button.
You want to hear La Porrinden, featuring Bernice Placide and the late, Trevor Davis, as soloists., go to my website, http://rodneyfostertriniauthor.com. That folk song from Dominica, I believe, was one of our biggest hits. Check out the RED GUARDS, 66-68. Real handsome fellas. See how many people you can recognize in the staff and students photo from 1967. Look at Paddy and meh room mate enacting "Lulu", another Mausica hit. Such memories.
Please send me your feedback and remember to order a book and/or CD.
As meh pardnah and Cuban Ambassador, Lester Efebo Wilkie, advise meh, "Dolphie, spread de culture but make ah dollar."
As usual,

Mr Gray,
All things considered ... You're the best choice as Liaison Officer 71- 75 ... although as a High School Principal you can't spell considering. Everyone nose you. Who can forget The City Mouse!
Seriously ..... suggestion ... let's confirm who's attending and then ask each to bring three.
Keep it simple .... Confirm your Attendance and Bring Three. Consider me confirmed and after you send out the confirmation list, I'll work on my three.
Idea .... We have four Mausican Ministers in the PP Government ... 3 Cabinet & Clifton DeCoteau. You know long time we did not have a cabinet but a safe ... told Clifton ... hold on ... they keeping him safe .... for later.
We should make a special request/effort to get all four .... make it a big deal at the event.

RE: MAUSICA WEEKLY EMAILS

2010-AUG-07-1529Hrs
Hi Mausicans,
Good to see things are going full force for the New York reunion. I will pray that you all have an enjoyable time, all who can afford it now.
(when I retired, bread was $5, now the same loaf costs $11 or twice as much, but my pension has not gone up to twice as much. So I now have half the value or less. I am not complaining, I am happy with the Lord esp for health, strengh, love, family and friends, people on the whole. I just economise to suit, and give up the luxury items like the trip to New York unless it is donated to me with no bribery, no strings attached.
So enjoy yourselves. Remember to recognize and give glory to God for the lives of all the Mausicans esp for the founders, (pioneers and organisers) of Mausica Teachers' College without which there would have been no Mausicans. hee! hee! Hee!
By the way, I need a sponsor and a publisher for my book on the history of the Junior Sec.  Kindly send me your personal experiences at the Junior Sec if you ever worked there, had a spouse,or a child or relative there.
I worked there twice. Some people say once you have left it you do not go back. Well I went back. . God was pleased with me, because all his people must be served. And the children who attended Junior sec are no less than anyone else. They are now mothers, fathers bank managers, secetaries, receptionists, lawyers, teachers, pastors, military men and women, medical personell, you name it. Although some of them have gone up the wrong road, we pray that they will, like everyone else, find the right directions to walk the right road and finally reach the destination that our creator wants them to reach.
They all contribute to Trinidad and Tobago as we do. We must leave something for next generations to read and see about Mausica, Mausicans and Junior Secondary Schools. The results were not all that bad. So make haste and send me your stories.
With love from Pat Phelps.
God bless!__

Count me in for the Reunion 2011 and I would need accomodation.
Also I'm very careful with whom I associate. After I spend my money to buy nice dan dan, I don't want to mix with any vagrant who will be sleeping in the park.
Keep up the good work Errol

Hi Garth,
Thank you for your response to the Big Apple Reunion 2011. Apparently you have not seen our Survey that we have sent out several times on the Blog. but we are happy to have you on board.
The dates for the Reunion are July 26 to 29th 2011. Most likely accommodation will be set up at Hofstra University, Hempstead NY (Long Island) We are diligently working out the details of the Reunion and we will send out registration and schedules in the early Fall. Yes,there will be trips to Manhattan and we are planning to provide transportation. It is always better to stay with the group so we are doing our best to provide accommodation at a reasonable cost.
You can contact me at my email address if you need to address other concerns. Stay in touch.
Warm wishes,
Bernice "Buzzie" Tarradath ('64-'66)
