Errol,
Mausica Weekly Emails get better and better all the time.
Thanks  for forwarding articles of interest . I refer to the Email from Alphonsus Antoine and Richie Donald  entitled " Valuable Information". It  raised the awareness and praised the use of Coconut oil in the diet . I will certainly try it out on my 88 yr. old mother who is getting rather forgetful lately.
I can't wait for Reunion 1013 and  glad that we are incorporating days in Tobago as well. it is only fitting to do so. We are Trinidad and Tobago .
Stay blessed.

RE: Mausica50 2013

2012-Mar-07-2132Hrs
On the 27th February 2012, 20 Mausicans met at "Paraiso" a mini-paradise owned by Gerard Narinesingh located just off Claxton Bay.  This was a meeting to begin the conversation about the 50th Anniversary Reunion.  There were Local Trinis and Foreign Trinis who were here for d 'mas.  Brenda Alexander; Mennen Walker-Briggs; Joan Parris-Brathwaite; Cuthbert Matthews; Claudina Cudjoe; Clare Creese; Woodley; Finbar Ryan; Angela McAlister; Claudia Taylor; Jemma Jordan; Carol Reveillac; Ajodha Sookhoo; Errol Lashley; Monty Chapman; Fareeda Chapman; Conrad Thomas; Terrance Walker; June Raphael Martin; Winston Yallery-Arthur; Yvonne Pilgrim; Anna Maria Mora; Gerard Narinesingh. (Felix Edinborough sent his apologies: he was really saddened at not being able to attend).
Gerard was so happy to have us.  I think that it was divine intervention that I met Gerard when I did. The meeting began with a prayer and the first order of business was settling the dates.  THE DATES FOR THE MAUSICA REUNION IN 2013 :
JULY 19TH - 26TH 2013-- WITH THREE OF THOSE DAYS IN TOBAGO. We need to touch base with Tobago to finalise those three days. Tentatively we have Sunday 21st - to return on Wednesday 24th.  We are thinking that we would like to get in the "Ole Time Wedding" in Moriah.  Tobago to advise.
Other suggestions to be worked out by the committee:  Educational Workshop; a Day at the Mausica Compound; The History of Mausica, which was never written (Ithree names in the mix for this are Joy Valdez, Linda Romain and Pat Allum Ryan);  A Supplement in one of the weekend newspapers; Adopt a School;
We must also try as much as possible to get in touch with lecturers and workers who were with us through the years.
Bernice Warrick Tarradath has agreed to be our lliason in New York
Brenda Perez-Alexander, our lliason in Canada
Megan Welch, our lliason in Grenada
Of course we have Elinor King, Jasper Joefield, Alan Clovis and Eastlyn Mckenzie in Tobago
Joan Brathwaite (South) and Anna Maria Mora (Nor'East)  Jemma Jordan (West)
The food was delicious and catered.  All who attended made a contribution to the catering and more, so we were able to keep our $$ made at the Christmas get-together. Thank you so much Joan for getting the caterer.
Gerard has offered his "estate" to us anytime that we need it. Thank you so much, Gerard.
Brenda sent the pics. for you to get a real feel for the joy and camaraderie.  We will continue to update you as we continue our meetings to finalise all the details.

Re: MAUSICA WEEKLY EMAILS

2012-Mar-02-1632Hrs
Thanks for the 'in touch' of nostalgia. I really do not know most of the people I read about, but just the name "Mausican" is so wonderful that I enjoy the notes anyhow. Memories of Grell Cup; Pineapple Smith;Choral speaking; Folk Swingers and Mrs.Cuffie ; Food fights when you never knew if to duck to the right or the left; Sports Day; Mrs Smuts; the weekend hostel parties; the unforgettable pot of pelau; running through the track; Lester and the famous $330.calypso; election time ...     I  have only fond and fun memories of Oh Mausica.  But A! A! How could I not mention the comical and bright Mr. Rapsey.     So much more... Congrats to all retired, and Specially to those who retired last year. The end of an era?  Not really...
I liked the Quiz sent by B. Gordon.  I only knew about 50% of the answers, but it was fun guessing.  Thanks.
I look forward to the Reunion in 2013. I attended one in Trinidad a long time ago.  Thanks to Sandra Lewis-Borde, I caught up with some of my peeps last year, and certainly do not want to miss the gatherings in 2013.   I am a '70-'72 graduate (Wingation), and retired last year.
Thanks again. Blessings.

I can now say that I've been there, done that. On Ash Wednesday I went to work at the Curriculum Division for the last time, since I proceeded on 46 days pre-retirement leave.
I have many memories of my time and times, but the most enduring is the Mausica experience.
I join my fellow retirees in another phase of life and wish them all the best.

RE: Claxton Bay lime

2012-Mar-01-1432Hrs
Thanks to Gerard, Anna Maria, Joan and our T&T based brothers and sisters who organised the lime in Claxton Bay for the "foreigners".  Paraiso could not have been a more appropriate location - it would be nice to have a function there for the 2013 reunion.  The food was delicous and plenty - congrats to our caterers.  We enjoyed the time re-connecting amid the planning which was the serious part of the agenda.
Here are my pictures.  As usual, Tom was snapping away and he promises to share his pics with us.
No pressure Tom, send the Big Apple pics, the Toronto Chistmas lime and Claxton Bay in one package.

RE: Mausicans who are still doing music.

2012-Feb-25-1346Hrs
Hi Errol,
On your last notification to the Mausican family I noticed that someone saw Earl Carnavan at a function and he was still playing music- Us old musicians die hard. We can’t get the music out of our system. It will be nice to hear what other musicians from the Mausica family are doing. I hear sometimes from Bertie Fraser and would like to hear from others. Maybe we can form an on-line group. I’m still into recording and producing here in Winnipeg. You can Google one of my songs, all written and played by me on soundcloud.com/Ken Atherton/What’s Wrong. Please include in your next email.
Keep up the good work,
Ken Atherton.

If anyone saw the political satire performed by 3canal I hope they laughed their bellies full as I did. See you all in 2013.

Dear Fellow Mausicans,
As usual, it is great to be home. I took in Talk Tent last evening and hearing Farida talk about her teaching experiences really brought back memories.I laughed fuh so.She was excellent. I missed Felix's Pierrot Grenade, though.A pity I will not be here for the lime by my batch mate,Gerald Narinesingh, but I leave in the morning. Have not seen Gerald since I visited him in hospital many years ago after I had learnt of his having been chopped by a bandit. Shucks! I just remembered I did see him afterwards at his son's graduation from Hugh Wooding Law School, when I was teaching there and possibly at his admission to practice.Ah well, getting on in years.Hope you all had a great Carnival. I took in the Dimanche Gras show and a bit of Tuesday mas. I am always promising to check on Fitzie and then not making the time.I must call before I leave.
Today I celebrate with my Dad who is 93 years.
Have a great year.If anyone is passing through Nassau on a cruise, do remember you can find me at theEugene Dupuch Law School there.
Best regards,
Hazel Thompson-Ahye

My Fellow Mausicans,
Do you remember Clive Nunez?
He was a trade union leader in the 60s and 70s. On Sunday, he was a History  teacher at the monthly meeting of the Trinidad and Tobago Association of Georgia. Clive refreshed our memories of the historic  Black Power days. Clive is an excellent teacher /student  and is available to inform our young people of the path we travelled to become a Republic. Clive is a member of the Board of Directors of PTSC. His tel. # is  868-623-2689.
It's good to hear and see how our Mausicans are "Molding our nation through Service". We can be found in all fields. While I was in Toronto, I read  Brenda Alexander's latest book.  It was great.
Mausicans, let's network and inform the readership on what we are doing. If you are building houses with Habitat for Humanity or organizing cruises, let us know.

Mausicans, for many years now, two of us, Felix and Farida, have been performing annually from Thursday to Sunday after Carnival with the TALK TENT. Yes folks, Mausicans have had a major presence on stage with the great PAUL KEENS- DOUGLAS. A few years ago, Farida Mohammed(satirist?) joined Felix(Pierrot Grenade) in the BEST laugh show in T&T. For the last few years Farida has been killing patrons with laughter at the QUEENS HALL. Mausicans at the New York Reunion last year got a taste of her wonderful contributions to our literary arts. Check TALK TENT 2012 on Facebook or Paul Keens -Douglas's wall there.

I feel so good for those of you who will be in T and T for Carnival and other events... so wish I could join the lime and am so impatient for July 2013 to be here... mind you, this year is moving on so it won't be too long again.   It is just so hard to explain Mausica and Mausicans to those who have not experienced us and it makes me so happy when the younger family members come along to our Reunions, truly something to treasure.
Enjoy the get togethers and wear something more than sequins and feathers if that's what you find in your costume matchbox... celebrate in style and in clothes!   Love you all.  Pat

RE: Mausicans coming Home

2012-Feb-08-1200Hrs
Hi My Peeps,
How are you all?  There will be many of our Mausican Bredren and Sistren, here for d Mas.'  Many will be staying on for a while after Carnival.  We would like to organize a Brunch in Claxton Bay at Gerard Narinesingh's Place , (10..am - 2p.m.) on Monday 27th February.  On the weekend we have cooldowns and Pan Trinbago's what used to b "Champs in Concert." on Saturday.  Cannot remember the new name.  Gerard says that his place is available.
We will also use this opportunity to continue the conversation re: Mausica50 2013.  We will be catering brunch.  We can use some of the $$$ made from the Hilton get together.  Some is going into the bank to make up a balance of $5000.00 so that there will be no charges.  Felix informed that if the account has $5000 and more no charges will be taken etc.   I also have $960.00 from the sale of CDs. This is to go into the Roland Maunday Foundation, but we can keep it in the account until we need to hand it over.
We can bring our drinks, although Gerard said that he can provide drinks, we just have to let him know how many.
Feedback , peeps.  This looks like a Cool Lime in d makin'.
Another Lime: On Friday there is "retro night" at the Carnival Village, I went last night and it is really great. Nelson, Baron, will b there,  etc etc, and it is all free.  This is the second year that this Carnival Village has been set up and I think that it does us proud.  Didn't go last year because I was playing a mas, so did not go on that side of the Savannah at all, but  I will be heading there on Friday.  What say you all. Meet me in the Carnival Village at the Queen's Park Savannah on Friday.  It starts at about about 6.30p. but I will not get there until about 7.00p.m.    D MAS START AN GOIN' GR8.

2012-Feb-05-1506Hrs
Hello Errol,
Please share some of my thoughts with the rest of my  Mausica family.
My condolences to the Hem-Lee family, Gwen Williams and Conrad Thomas.
Last night, Sat. , Feb 4th.,  I attended the  Grenada Assoc. of Atlanta Dinner Dance. It wasr great.
Janice Strachan, 68-70, produced a piece describing the islands' journey from 1498 to 2012. "Grenada Then and Now" was both educational and entertaining. Cast members sang Y Ca Boucan, The Slave, Gov't Boots and depicted the Caribs, Arawaks, the Spaniards, Frrench, British and revolutionaries like Sir Eric Gairy and Maurice Bishop. It was a well conceived presentation.
Once again, a Musican graduate shared her talent, time and resources with the coommunity. Wherever Mausicans reside we become involved in the community.
Therefore, taking a queue from Pat, I would like to suggest a few themes for our 50th Anniversary: our motto " Molding A Nation Through Service",  " Leaving A Legacy", "Do Something. Be Something. Leave Something".
My fellow Mausicans, for Reunion 2013, let's pool our creative minds and create a theatrical piece that would tell the rich history of our beloved MTC.
As usual,
Rodney  Foster

My Fellow Mausicans,
I'll be visiting Sweet TNT from March 20th to April 10th. While there, I  would like to participate in any meetings the 2013 Committee may be holding. I would like to suggest that we launch our media blitz soon. Let's hear the Mausica Teachers Chorale on the radio and TV;  have interviews reminding everyone about our legacy.
I n July 1970, on my first visit to The Big Apple, I sat next to a man who said "Nothing good ever came out of Mausica." Yuh know how dey did envy we 330 ! I decided to keep meh cool and work hard to prove him wrong. I know that we have proved all of those naysayers wrong. Therefore, let's take our 50th anniversary to celebrate and remind the whole world that we have lived our Motto: "Molding A Nation Through Service".
Yes Pat, a visit to the Campus would be a good  pilgrimage. Lawd, according tuh Mangatal, "If only these walls could talk, what great tales they would tell."
Yuh want tuh ole talk, nah. Come tuh de Reunion. It does be real nice.
Ah gorn. is 2:30 am. By de way, Marj and I will be in Toronto from Feb. 9th to the 14th. We staying by Gerry and Eunice.

Let us continue to pray for  the healing of all the hurts caused by the criminal elements in our twin island state.
Please remember to add ,in your prayers,  the family of  fellow Mausican and former MP and Parliamentary Secretary in the  Ministry of Education, Oswald Hem Lee (72-74). His brother was brutally murdered last week.
My family and I express our heartfelt condolences.

RE: GREETINGS!!!!

2012-Jan-20-1523Hrs
Hello to all  my Mausican family!!
Here's to a HEALTHY, HAPPY, BLESSED, AND PROSPEROUS 2012 !!!
Special greetings and blessings  to our Errol for continuing to keep us together and informed.
Even though this is late.. I have to say Hats off to the New York side of the family for bringing off such a wonderful time at the Big Apple Reunion. I enjoyed every second of it.
I can't wait for 2013. I don't care what date is set.  Anytime will be good enough for me.
God's willing. However we have to remember that not all of us are  free from work and other commitments yet.
By the way I found my long lost  flatmate Jean Cruickshank now Cozier. She was not aware that all this "niceness" was happening every 2 years wid de fambaly. Ah had to bring her up to speed in the little time  we had together when I was home in T'dad.
Here I go again... Ah always looking for somebody.  Ah looking for one more person now.  Her name used to be Leonie Lyons. She used to be my athletic pardner one time. Anyone knows her whereabouts?  Please let me know.
Warm regards Myrdith.**

RE: MAUSICA WEEKLY EMAILS

2012-Jan-20-0624Hrs
That's how I like to see the blog... lots of input.   I am cool with any dates for the Reunion.   Who talked about  "getting old" ?  Mausicans, don't go there, even if we have to use a walking stick or a zimmer frame, attach a ribbon to jazz it up.
Have we decided on a theme for the Reunion?  I would like us to visit the College site, at least to say a prayer and sing some of the old songs to let the spirits that roam there know we have not forgotten where we started.  This could be a daytime event.
Does anyone have  photos of the hostel flags?  I would like one of the Kirkendale flag  please.
The year is flying fast.  Mausicans who have July commitments should indicate as we want as many as possible to be at the reunion.
Be blessed.

RE: reunion 2013

2012-Jan-18-1832Hrs
We have been following the discussion on the suggested dates and agree that the week of July 19, 2013 would be more suitable to us.  Many of us have family obligations Caribana weekend and some of us are involved with making and/or playing mas.
Also the Torontonians have an ongoing lime on Caribana Sunday, as well as the St. Benedicts alumni brunch.
As usual, we would support your choice as best as we can, because we know that everyone's wishes cannot be met.

Re: MAUSICA WEEKLY EMAILS

2012-Jan-18-0854Hrs
Dear Errol,
Allow me, through you, to wish a Happy New Year to all my fellow Mausicans.
I thoroughly enjoyed seeing so many of them at the Mausica mini-lime at Hilton and thank Maria for following through on the suggestion. Excellent work!
I was pleased when I called Mrs.Cuffie ( Aunty Daphne to many) on her birthday (January 6) to find her very bright and cheerful and to learn that she had had a lot of visitors, including faithful Barbara Davis. She happily and proudly told me that it was her 8oth birthday. I have a vague recollection of visiting her, I believe, in hospital, on her 39th birthday. She was sad on that day because of the circumstances. But God knows best. It seems like yesterday.
I was unable to visit as I was not moving around much having been laid up with an injury to my leg which occurred when a pyrex dish slipped from my hand, crashed to the floor and a piece of the glass gashed my calf. I was supposed to fly out on that day but ended up in a hospital emergency room getting sutures for the deep wound.Talk about freak accident! And the hard part was, I was making a Johhny Bake that was coming out real good, but I had to throw it out because of the splinters. Towards the end of last year I broke my little finger, so let's hope the accidents do not continue. One of the hazards of getting old?
I wish you all a prosperous, healthy, safe, accident-free New Year. Will be home for Carnival.
Love,
Hazel Thompson-Ahye

RE: Reunion 2013

2012-Jan-14-1808Hrs
Fellow Mausicans,
Greetings. The New Year is well on its way and I hope that  everyone is enjoying good health, some measure of peace and joy and of course, happiness!. I wish you all the best.
I am happy to learn that your  Christmas gathering in Trinidad was quite a success. We are all looking forward to the Reunion in 2013.
The week of Friday July 19th to Friday 26th 2013 for the upcoming Reunion may be great for people who are retired but I was just thinking of making all this happen in one week including the weekend ...lets say Sunday  July 21st to Sunday July 28th (so it means 5 days off from work)
It really could be any week in July.
This  is only a suggestion and I am only one voice but I will certainly fall in line if you stick with your dates because I know that a lot of logistics must be taken into consideration The fact is that I do summer school, because I want to see the kids, that I have taught all year, graduate in the Summer.
Good luck with your planning. Mausica Teachers' Alumni & Friends, New York Chapter, stands ready to assist if needed.
Warm regards,
Buzzie

Re: MAUSICA WEEKLY EMAILS

2012-Jan-07-2303Hrs
To the 2013 Planning Committee.
I support Joan B's suggestion that we we schedule the date for the reunion for July 19th thru July 26th.
We should accommodate our Canadian brothers and sisters because they have a strong presence at every reunion. Since many of them are deeply involved in all  the Caribana events leading up to the big day, August 3rd,  we should be be considerate.
Many returning Mausicans from the USA, London and elsewhere would most likely spend two weeks vacation in TNT and would be able to participate in the Emancipation and Tobago Heritage celebrations.
If Joey Lewis is still active, please book him early. Remember the gala at the Center of Excellence in 2003? Dat was fete fuh so!o.
Consider ah beach lime at one of the beaches in Tobago. Remember 2007? Wat about  ah old-fashioned variety concert at Queens Hall? Invite some guest artistes to attract the public. Use the profit from the event to establish a scholarship fund. In addition, Include a dollar amount in the registration fee to add  to the Scholarship Fund.
So long for now.

RE: Another suggestion?

2012-Jan-05-2129Hrs
Hey My Peeps,
Here is another suggestion re: the Week for Mausica50 2013:
Joan B has suggested  Friday 19th July to Friday 26th July 2013,  ( the week before the first dates given) because we remember the anxiety for our Canadian bros and sistahs to return for Caribana, we missed quite a few on the final night at the Dinner & Dance . Do you all need breathing space, my Canadian Peeps and those Trinis who left us and went up?
LET THE CONVERSATION BEGIN. NOW IS D TIME. I am hoping that this attempt at democracy works smoothly. Let us give ourselves two weeks to converse and come to a final decision about the dates for Mausica50 2013. It is early yet.

Smiles, smiles and more smiles from Lester, Korenza, Mennen et al.  Every one had a smile on his/her face.  This augurs well for 2012.  Great way to begin the year, with smiles.

RE: More pics and dates

2012-Jan-05-2053Hrs

To Mausicans My Dears:

A Joyous and Peaceful 2012
filled with
Happiness and The Very Best of Health

The Following dates have been agreed upon for Mausica50 2013.  Please give us your feedback re: feelings about these dates, too many days? etc. etc.  Some people felt that we should have one week of celebrations and also that we should try to get in some of the Emancipation Celebrations.  Emancipation Day is August 1st.  Jemma Jordan made a call to Canada and we were told that Caribana is on the 3rd August and there were some concerns that our Trini-Canadians may want to return home for Caribana.  This is why we will end on 1st.

Here are the dates  -  2013

Friday 26th July
Saturday 27th July
Sunday 28th July
Monday 29th July
Tuesday 30th July
Wednesday 31st July
Thursday 1st August

Lots happening in Trinidad and Tobago during this time, with Emancipation in Trinidad and Heritage Festival in Tobago.

We await your feedback.

The pictures give us one more hug, and miles of smiles from Mennen.

Anna Maria Mora
