Errol,
That was an awesome tribute to Earl. I am still in shock. I saw Earl in Grenada - that was the first time since Graduation 1965 and was hoping he would have performed Storm for us then. I had very little contact with him while we were in college, but I remember that he was always pleasant and polite. My condolences to his family and friends.
On another sad note - I am extending my deepest sympathy to June Raphael-Martin, her family and friends. June was part of a group who spent a day visiting Magnell recently. During our trip shespoke fondly of her father. It is gratifying to know that her memories of him brought so many smiles to her face.
Let's create good memories while we have the chance.

I am still in a bit a shock and truly saddened at the passing of our FRIEND "Bumbles". I was not in regular contact with him...Il ast saw him 2-3 years ago in TnT at his office but I have always considered him my friend. We always laughed together at the college especially after he embarassed me at his favourite game, table tennis. Erroll has indeed paid him a wonderful tribute.
I would like to extend my deepest and heartfelt condolences to his family.
As I thought of Earl on the weekend and chatted with Errol about him, I was drawn back to my earliest memory of him, when he treated us pioneers to his dramatic rendition of the poem "The Storm by Walter de la Mere"...hence his nick name "STORM". Do you guys remember this? Well here it is and I wish we could all do it together and laugh for one last time for and with our dear departed friend, Earl John, aka Strorm :..

"The Storm"
by Walter de la Mare

First there were two of us, then there were three of us,
Then there was one bird ..I hmore,
Four of us--wild white sea-birds,
Treading the ocean floor;
And the wind rose, and the sea rose,
To the angry billows? roar--
With one of us--two of us--three of us--four of us
Sea-birds on the shore.

Soon there were five of us, soon there were nine of us,
And lo! in a trice sixteen!
And the yeasty surf curdled over the sands,
The gaunt grey rocks between;
And the tempest raved, and the lightning?s fire
Struck blue on the spindrift hoar--
And on four of us--ay, and on four times four of us
Sea-birds on the shore.

And our sixteen waxed to thirty-two,
And they to past three score--
A wild, white welter of winnowing wings,
And ever more and more;
And the winds lulled, and the sea went down,
And the sun streamed out on high,
Gilding the pools and the spume and the spars
?Neath the vast blue deeps of the sky;

And the isles and the bright green headlands shone,
As they?d never shone before,
Mountains and valleys of silver cloud,
Wherein to swing, sweep, soar--
A host of screeching, scolding, scrabbling
Sea-birds on the shore--
A snowy, silent, sun-washed drift
Of sea-birds on the shore.

Hello Errol:
Thank you for the wonderful tribute to Earl. I don't think I knew him; but by your description and Barbara Davis 's memory of him, we certainly have lost a good human being. Barbara( 67-69 and the wife of Trevor Davis, deceased) is here with me here in Toronto spending some vacation. She would like to be reconnected to the Mausica Blog that you so effectively keep alive.
Barbara's new email address is as follows:
bgdav62@gmail.com This replaces her former tsttemail account. Please remember to include her is all ongoing communication.
Thanks for your help.

Fellow Mausicans
The news of Earl John/ Bumbles' death took me by storm... I never saw that one coming. I was already saying to my sister that this seems to be a significant year of goodbyes... within my family, among friends with whom I grew up in Fyzabad, here on Montserrat and within the Mausica family. I know that age is a factor in all of this but that does not make it easier.. The lesson to be drawn from all of this is that we must use the time we have to let those near and dear to us know how much we cherish them and pray for them daily.
Love and blessings, Pat

Errol:
A fitting tribute which expressed the feelings of many of us who came to know EJ. A gifted organiser and "people person" he made anyone who met him welcome and comfortable. As you know, he and I had similar interests in all sports, and it is not surprising that many young athletes benefitted from his involvement in their lives.
When I last saw him around July 2009, he was the same upbeat EJ diligently completing whatever project in which he was involved and enjoying the Reunion..
He was a great friend to all of us in Mayfair Mansion and the entire Mausica family.
It remains a pleasure and an honor to have known EJ, Bumbles, Storm.

Hi Errol,
Please post on the blog.
I deeply regret the passing of our colleague and friend, Earl John. This is a very special, and emotional occasion for us all as we mourn the loss of a unique individual, a man whom we all feel privileged to have met and known over the many years. We will miss him, so let us all say a final farewell in our hearts, then let us sing and celebrate the life that he lived.
On behalf of Mausica Teachers' Alumni & Friends, New York Chapter, I extend our deepest condolences to his wife, Marceline, and his daughter Juliette.
May he rest in peace!

Earl John and Tobago

Even before I knew that Earl John was a fellow Mausican, he had a special place in the hearts of the sporting fraternity of Canaan/Bon Accord (CBA) in Tobago. He was always well received in Bon Accord. He became one of us - Ah we boy.
Every year, he would bring a contingent of athletes to the Western Springfield Track and Field meeting. He did not stay in a Guest house, but rather at the home of Leroy Bristol of CBA. He was a part of our Tobago family. We would meet during the annual Village Olympics as CBA competed against Arima in various sports. As the Tobago representative on the TTFA, I interacted with him on numerous occasions each time, with a smile on his face.
The contribution made by Earl to the country is exactly what we, as Mausicans, were entrusted with by our mentors. Don't just be teachers, go out and impact your communities. In his post Mausica years, Earl was the quintessential Mausican.
Rest in Peace Earl.

Errol, You did a wonderful tribute to your friend Earl. He was always one to be admired for his devotion to duty and I remember him as always being pleasant and one who could take a heckle and he would respond in like manner. He will be greatly missed. I am sorry that I will not be able to attend his funeral as I am now in Paraguay. Do get in touch with me when you come to Trinidad. May he rest in peace.

EARL JOHN – A TRIBUTE

MAUSICAN 1963-1965

Earl John, fondly known as EJ or Bumbles and Storm to his Mausica family only, died on Friday 20th August, 2010. I was shocked and deeply saddened by the news. He was taken away from us far too early.
Earl and I met at Mausica Teachers’ College (MTC) in 1963. I do not remember the exact circumstances of our first meeting. I do recall being accepted into a clique consisting of Annette, Sumatee and Earl. I say accepted because all three were from Arima while I was not. We frequently had meals together and enjoyed the camaraderie. Earl had a wonderful sense of humour and he made us laugh often.
During his years at MTC, Earl distinguished himself in several endeavours including the choir, coral speaking and sports. His main interest though was in sports but more so as an administrator as is demonstrated by his association with Fulham Sports Club, and later CONCACAF, FIFA, TTFF and The Trinidad and Tobago Basketball Federation. It was through his coaching and encouragement that I was able to enjoy a bit of success in my athletic pursuits at MTC.
Earl was trained as a Teacher and stayed in the profession until his retirement from the service. He was a dedicated teacher. By all accounts he was a very good teacher with his unique brand of discipline which earned him the respect of his students and their parents as well as the admiration of his colleagues.
As a friend, Earl was someone you could count on, confide in and trust. He was a gentleman and a genuine human being with all the qualities you would want in a friend. While he remained in Trinidad, I lived in Canada since 1969 and our friendship lasted well beyond the Mausica years, terminated only by his passing. We regularly exchanged letters in the early years then emails with the advent of the Internet. I enjoyed reading all of his communiqués which were mainly about sporting events involving Trinidad and the West Indies and his protégés.
Ours was an unbroken friendship for 47 years. Earl was a mentor to some, a true friend to many, a very dear friend to a few and my best friend. He will be missed by all. I will surely miss him and I shall always remember Mr. Earl Francis John.
My condolences go out to his wife, Marceline and his daughter, Juliette. May he rest in peace!

2010-AUG-13-2017Hrs Hi Errol,
I do not read the "Weekly" regularly but wish to congratulate you and all the contributors that have made it a reality and keep it interesting. Mausicans are realy a special group and that can be seen from the variety of contributions.
Where else can one get the "concerns" of Finbar or Kamla? (Abdool of course!) What I like is the goal of Pat to record a "History of the Junior Secondary Schools". To a large extent Mausicans made them successful and so too many of the students who were "educated" there. I hope the contributions will pour in but the sequel is the Senior Comprehensives. That episode our our history need to be recorded as well. So Mausicans you are still needed!

Hi Mausicans
Who can forget La Porrinden? I wanted Trevor to enter the Road march contest with it but he declined. I am back on Montserrat. Apologies to friends in Trinidad whom I did not contact... I would not have been able to answer " So when ah seein' yuh? " and chickened out. It was good to witness the political ping pong up close and personal. My abiding hope is that Trinidadians and Tobagonians, as people everywhere in the world, will appreciate what a big difference they can make simply by being DISCIPLINED!.... no speeding, no driving on the shoulder to overtake and slalom between cars! Littering has been mentioned a lot as part of the problem re floods so I won't go back there. GOD BLESS OUR NATION and I truly hope that the Mausicans on the political inside are allowed to make a difference. To Anna maria I say BON COURAGE , you are already making a difference and God willing, your day in Politics will come. Pat

Hello Erroll,
There was a problem with the pace at which the slides with the photos was moving. The viewer now has control to freeze or advance the slides.
Just go to fhe bottom right hand corner and clik on the arrows and pause button.
You want to hear La Porrinden, featuring Bernice Placide and the late, Trevor Davis, as soloists., go to my website, http://rodneyfostertriniauthor.com. That folk song from Dominica, I believe, was one of our biggest hits. Check out the RED GUARDS, 66-68. Real handsome fellas. See how many people you can recognize in the staff and students photo from 1967. Look at Paddy and meh room mate enacting "Lulu", another Mausica hit. Such memories.
Please send me your feedback and remember to order a book and/or CD.
As meh pardnah and Cuban Ambassador, Lester Efebo Wilkie, advise meh, "Dolphie, spread de culture but make ah dollar."

Mr Gray,
All things considered ... You're the best choice as Liaison Officer 71- 75 ... although as a High School Principal you can't spell considering. Everyone nose you. Who can forget The City Mouse!
Seriously ..... suggestion ... let's confirm who's attending and then ask each to bring three.
Keep it simple .... Confirm your Attendance and Bring Three. Consider me confirmed and after you send out the confirmation list, I'll work on my three.
Idea .... We have four Mausican Ministers in the PP Government ... 3 Cabinet & Clifton DeCoteau. You know long time we did not have a cabinet but a safe ... told Clifton ... hold on ... they keeping him safe .... for later.
We should make a special request/effort to get all four .... make it a big deal at the event.

RE: MAUSICA WEEKLY EMAILS

2010-AUG-07-1529Hrs
Hi Mausicans,
Good to see things are going full force for the New York reunion. I will pray that you all have an enjoyable time, all who can afford it now.
(when I retired, bread was $5, now the same loaf costs $11 or twice as much, but my pension has not gone up to twice as much. So I now have half the value or less. I am not complaining, I am happy with the Lord esp for health, strengh, love, family and friends, people on the whole. I just economise to suit, and give up the luxury items like the trip to New York unless it is donated to me with no bribery, no strings attached.
So enjoy yourselves. Remember to recognize and give glory to God for the lives of all the Mausicans esp for the founders, (pioneers and organisers) of Mausica Teachers' College without which there would have been no Mausicans. hee! hee! Hee!
By the way, I need a sponsor and a publisher for my book on the history of the Junior Sec.  Kindly send me your personal experiences at the Junior Sec if you ever worked there, had a spouse,or a child or relative there.
I worked there twice. Some people say once you have left it you do not go back. Well I went back. . God was pleased with me, because all his people must be served. And the children who attended Junior sec are no less than anyone else. They are now mothers, fathers bank managers, secetaries, receptionists, lawyers, teachers, pastors, military men and women, medical personell, you name it. Although some of them have gone up the wrong road, we pray that they will, like everyone else, find the right directions to walk the right road and finally reach the destination that our creator wants them to reach.
They all contribute to Trinidad and Tobago as we do. We must leave something for next generations to read and see about Mausica, Mausicans and Junior Secondary Schools. The results were not all that bad. So make haste and send me your stories.
With love from Pat Phelps.
God bless!__

Most likely accommodation will be set up at Hofstra University, Hempstead NY (Long Island) We are diligently working out the details of the Reunion and we will send out registration and schedules in the early Fall. Yes,there will be trips to Manhattan and we are planning to provide transportation. It is always better to stay with the group so we are doing our best to provide accommodation at a reasonable cost.
You can contact me at my email address if you need to address other concerns. Stay in touch.
Warm wishes,

Here are the pictures. The lime was better than the ones before. Thanks again and again to Theresa and Winsley. Sorry we stayed so late - we just could not leave.
We have some fundraiser raffle tickets to sell on behalf of the New York group. Thanks all for purchasing tickets. I still have quite a few books left, they are $5. a book and I can send them via Canada Post. If you want more info call me.
Don't forget July 26 - 29, 2011.

Hi Felix,
I am soooo glad that you will be in the area for the Reunion. Freeport is kinda close to Hempstead so I will hop on over and drop off some "sandfly "spray and a lil "cockset" for you! Glad to help you out. Mausicans real generous.

RE: Reunion 2011

2010-JUL-31-0842Hrs I plan to make the reunion next year. I want dates, the programme, the location of the events, etc. I might have a place to stay, but if it is too far from the venue, I might need reasonable accommodation nearby.
I would also like to know the contact information for the organisers.
