RE: Re. Mausica News

2012-Apr-29-0942Hrs
Hi Errol ,
Thanks for the update on Bertie. We wish him a speedy recovery. He was always a fighter. I remember him when he was going up for  National elections as a candidate for Tunapuna. Although I was campaign manager for Lloyd Best, he never failed to greet me with pleasantries whenever our paths crossed on the trail.
I plan to attend the funeral of Merle Manswell on Monday. She was a beautiful soul. We are grateful that Cliff posted that pic. Special memories how they linger...
Keep up the great work.
Barbara Wafe.

Hi My Peeps,
Meetings are happening and we do not want to post anything until we have everything settled.  Once we go on the website, that will be it; now settling accommodation, registration fees, registration forms, schedule of events etc etc... We have a San Fernando Day so the sub-committee from San Fenando is meeting and will report at the next meeting.  Tobago is also meeting, because we will have a weekend in Tobago.  We cannot post anything until everything is sure and complete.  Angela and Pat, will call you to attend the next meeting in May.  People are joining as we go along.    We ask everyone to please be patient, because we would like to post the registration form on the website hopefully by the end of June, end of July for the latest, with deadline for receipt of forms and payment of $$$$$ etc etc.  A lot needs to be done, so please be patient.

Rodney,
With all due respects to Keith, I also played for Malvern after an abbreviated stint at Howard University in 1974. Indeed it was Keith who recommended me to Lincoln since 1971. However I got married in December of 1969 and I was not about to leave my firstborn and wife behind to chase a soccer ball in Washington. So, as attractive an offer as it may have been, I had to pass. When Howard U. visited Trinidad in '74 (I think), Keith contacted me again and told me that Lincoln was still interested in taking a look at my game, towards possible recruitment. I played the first game for Howard U. at Skinner park. My skill set was still intact. So.....Lincoln recruited me immediately and promised to send the necessary paperwork for Immigration purposes, upon his return to Washington. He did fulfill his promise. I was in Washington that September.
Because Lincoln was not able to secure a full scholarship for me at that time, I was, and still am eternally grateful to Keith for taking me in to live with his wife and himself for a short while, since I did not have housing.
However, the arrangement was akward and unsettling for me. I was constantly homesick and spent many sleepless nights concerned about the well being of my wife and my son. After one year with the team, I returned to N.Y. and then to Trinidad and resumed my teaching career; thanks in large part to Mr.P.G. Wilson, a close friend of my father and the family as a whole.
P.S. Since I must leave room for others to post; I will give you the stats on Efebo and Bellamy when next I post.
My basic contention is that I played more, and represented Mausica in more sports, than my peers. That should count for something.  Wait until you hear about me taking Neville Phipps to deuce-point in a tournament against GTC in the auditorium. That night I got a big hug and kiss (that's all) from one of the all-time finest students the campus ever produced.( kyah call names...she is a married woman now.)

Wow! What a blog.   Many thanks for the comprehensive update on Bertie Fraser as we continue to pray for him.  Bertie started up a Cuatro Club in 1963 and was with the Best Bluffers when we sang Hello Mudder... at the official opening of MTC on September 16, 1963.  I also remember how we only had to hum the fisrt line of a song and Bertie would be able to accompany us on the piano.  Good to know that he has so much support on hand.  Blessings to all.

RE: Update on Bertie Fraser(pioneer class: '63-'65)

2012-Apr-25-2249Hrs
Attention: Errol, For the Mausica Blog site.
Additional and updated information has been relayed to me from Bertie's eldest daughter - Camille, who has been at his bedside since his hospitalization.
As follows, verbatim, this is what has been passed on to me:
He underwent a craniotomy to remove a large tumour, and most of the tumour was removed with relative ease.  He continues to have a positive attitude, his sense of humour is very much intact, and he remembers people and their voices.
There is a great team taking care of him at the hospital.  He is comfortable and resting peacefully.
Unfortunately, the tumour was malignant, called Oligodendroglioma, and there is some weakness on the left side of the body.
Treatment will take some time but we are hopeful and are expecting the best.
Comment from Es.
For those of you who know Bertie's first wife - Victoria Peters (a fellow Mausican), she is alive and well, residing in the city of Brampton, Ontario (just outside of Toronto).

Please provide us with updates on Bertie Fraser's condition. Some of us will recall that he was a President of Pan Trinbago, Member of Parliament for Tunapuna and Parliamentary Secretary for Culture in addition to an avid musician. Efebo has already contacted Pan Trinbago and they have expressed their concern.
Lets keep him in our prayers.
As usual, regards to Errol

Hi Errol,
I look forward to receiving Mausica Weekly Emails and this week did not disappoint.  Rodney Foster's post was most enjoyable.  His reference to Llyod Brown, Leslie Greenidge, Ralph Precilla, Clive Grell - et al, caused me to smile broadly. Like it was a mini 65-67-68 re-union! I hope you were able to persuade them all to attend the 2013 re-union.

Yes, mih brudder. That lime must have been something great. How much alcohol you guys must have shared ? Just a short correction to your 'facts'......Philip R.Kendall (1966-1968) scored more goals than Aqui; ran more track, and represent the college in more ping-pong than any other student during his time at Mausica. Re: MAUSICA WEEKLY EMAILS

2012-Apr-18-2018Hrs
Hello Mausicans,
I had a God time in TNT. Wherever I  turned God was present and guiding me.
On March 20th, my 82 year old uncle and I arrived in TNT. Marj was already there caring for my mother who was dehydrated and hardly eating or drinking.  I am happy to report that on April 10th when we returned to Atlanta, my mother's health had improved significantly.
Angels appeared in the form of ordinary people who stopped by to visit and lift my mother's spirits. The house was full of laughter and love. One day,  as I looked out the kitchen window,  I saw a lady passing by.  I said "Hello." She  offered me an extra daily paper that she had accidentally received at the shop.  I told her of my mother's condition. She informed me that she was a caregiver. She is now providing daily care for my mother.
My Mausican sister, Anna Maria, took time out of her busy schedule to help us examine different health care options which included visiting three nursing homes. Three days later we attended a meeting with some other Mausicans to plan for Reunion 2013. Dat gyul like salt. She in everyting. I appeal to my fellow Mausicans to come forward and help make Reunion 2013 a grand event. All hands on deck.
Aye hear nah, meh pardnah, Alisford, pass and pick up me an Marj and take we tuh Naparima Bowl. "Talk Tent" was hilarious.
De followin Monday,  we had ah mini reunion by Clive Grell in Arima. Of course, Alisford was dey too. Lloyd Brown bring he "Horse", Leslie Greenidge. Efebo, Caton, Taitt, Thompson , Andre and Ralphie Prescilla attended. Marj too. Clive and Mary roll out de red carpet. We had pastelle, black cake, roti and a variety of drinks. We reminisced. We sang old time Mausica kaiso. Take ah drink fuh Beck. Agreed dat Aqui was de best footballer and dat Leroy Cox kaiso, "Mausica", was de most popular calypso. " Solid Seven" combo made it into ah national hit. De lime was great.
By de way, ah conacted Scratchy,by phone. We talk fuh about ah hour. Dat Havenite real bright, boy.
Congrats to Hazel Thompson-Ahye.
Also baritone, Philbert Hislop. Ah see he win ah Ken Okley Award in de Music Festival.
Everywhere yuh turn yuh could find ah Mausican "Leaving A Legacy".
Yes, man, TNT still sweet. Ah love it.

Thanks for all the best wishes, prayers, congratulatory notes from you all. A special thanks again to Jemma Jordan, meh bro Lance Brown and others. I will soon share with you all a beautiful and touching poem penned for me by my sister, Joy Vadez, on my retirement and our friendship and another written by a teacher at my last school.  I know for sure that it was part of God's plan that we should have shared, and continue to share, our lives with each other. For that I cannot thank Him enough. Love you all in a special way that neither time nor distace can change!

"All Ah We Ah Wan Famaly"
In his iconic calypso "Family", calypsonian Lord Nelson highlights the strong connection that is shared among Tobagonians even when they don't know each other. In fact, because of the small size of the island, and other reasons too controversial to mention here, it is quite possibly that the family connections in Tobago are stronger than the calypso indicates. My Mausica family connections rival my Tobago family connections.
I feel the same strong connection to my Mausica family. When Selwyn grieves for his mother, I also grieve. When the Hemlees mourn the loss of a loved one, I feel there pain. I also rejoice and share the joy of Hazel Thompson-Ahye and Myrtle Spencer. Forty years later, the strength of my Mausica family is still strong.
Maybe there was something in the water? Or, was it the sugarcane we had for midnight snack? Pineapples? Oranges? Persaud’s chicken? Maybe the cheap” cask wine” we bought in Arima for those impromptu parties?
Whatever it was, it worked and we shall be family forever.

Hello fellow  Mausicans
Congrats on your Smokey Joe award.   Selwyn J. after 2 bouncebacks on a separate  message to you, I am going public.  Belated  condolences on the death of your mother but be assured... after almost 4 decades of experience I can tell you that she will never be far from you so treasure the memories that you built during her lifetime.
Mausicans, if April 2012 has come , can July 2013 be far behind?   Looking forward to the Golden Year.
Can the Planning Committee supply an occasional teaser or more to keep us going?... the suspense is almost unbearable.
Be blessed.

RE: Thanks to the Mausica Family

2012-Apr-04-1605Hrs
My sincerest thanks to all of my fellow Mausicans who expressed their condolences on the recent passing in Point Fortin, Trinidad, of my mother, Doris Jacob. She was fortunate to have met a few of my Mausica friends and over the years I was amazed at how many of you she still remembered. So the e-mails and phone calls certainly made me more appreciative of the caring of the Mausica family, but seeing a few faces at the funeral was even more comforting.
With much appreciation.
Sincerely,
Selwyn Jacob

RE: Some news

2012-Apr-03-1129Hrs
Dear Errol,
Allow me, through you, to share some news with my fellow Mausicans.
The Council of Legal Education, consisting of the Caribbean regional Chief Justices, Attorneys-General, representatives of the Bar Councils, thelaw schoools and the Faculty of Law, is the body responsible for training lawyers in the Caribbean through Council's three law schools - the Norman Manley Law School in Jamaica, the Hugh Wooding Law School in Trinidad and Tobago and the Eugene Dupuch Law School in The Bahamas. Last Thursday, March 29, 2012, the Council, which is celebrating its 40th anniversay,  awarded me the Smokey Joe Award for Outstanding Service to the Council Of Legal Education. I recently resigned my position as Senior Tutor at the Eugene Dupuch Law School in The Bahamas. I have served the Council for 25 years, first at the Hugh Wooding Law School as an Associate Tutor for one year, then for fourteen years as Director of the Legal Aid Clinic. In 2002 I was appointed Senior Tutor at the Eugene Dupuch Law School in the Bahamas with responsibilty for the academic programme and teaching.
Eugene Dupuch, the distinguished Bahamian lawyer after whom the law school was named, used to write a column in the newspapers under the pen name "Smokey Joe", hence, the Smokey Joe Award. Other recipients of the Smokey Joe award were: Sir Orville Turnquest, former Governor-General of the Bahamas, who has been a great supporter of the law school, Sir Burton Hall, former Chief Justice of the Bahamas, who was a former tutor at the law school, retired Justice Austin Davis, the first Principal of the Eugene Dupuch Law School and Mr. Justice John Isaacs, who has also made a great contribution to the law school as a regular guest lecturer and as an assessor at our moots.
I return home to my family and my country at the end of this academic year. I will, therefore, be on spot for the next reunion.
Best regards,
Hazel Thompson-Ahye
