RE: Big Apple Reunion...

2011-Aug-29-1615Hrs
To The NY Chapter, Buzzie and All:
Just to thank you all for all the work that you put into making that event so enjoyable. Sometimes little things like forgetting show tickets and having no cell phone to make emergency calls were a little embarassing moments for me but everyone was so helpful that I really wasn't embarassed at all.....really!!!!!!!!!
I had a fabulous time and looking forward to 2013.
Thanks again and thank you Errol.

RE: MAUSICA WEEKLY EMAILS

2011-Aug-24-0747Hrs
Well , well... the Blogmaster outdid himself this time. he didn't drop a stitch as he kept us informed and as involved as possible with the New York happenings.  To Buzzie and company, Well done!   I could hear the sighs of satisfaction in the post reunion messages.   Isn't it wonderful how weather and seismicity cooperated? Yes, GOD IS GOOD ALL THE TIME
All thanks and praise to Him.
I am saddened by the death of Pat Bishop who I only know by reputation and the legacy she has left for our country and the world at large.   As I look forward to our next reunion there are several thoughts in my mind which I will share with the organisers ... we have a Golden opportunity in 2013, so let all ideas come forward well before the event.
So far, though threatened, Montserrat has been spared the harshness of hurricanes...  may it continue so, please God.
Thank you Brenda for allowing me to share the special moments of the reunion... it means the world to me.
Be blessed everyone and continue to pray for healing in our land and around the world.   Pat

RE: Passing of a Mausican

2011-Aug-23-1943Hrs
Hi :
We lost a Mausican early this morning when she succumbed to colon cancer.  Her name was Pansy MacInnis (nee Frederick), She was one of the Mausica students from Grenada and was one of the '67-'69 student group.  She is survived by her husband, Norman and two daughters Apryl and Heather. Funeral arrangements will be in the Toronto Star.
Please forward.

I must add my thanks to the well deserved accolades (arc-old-aids) that the Planning Committee has been receiving for organizing the Big Apple reunion. This type of reunion speaks volumes for Mausica. Does anyone know of any other organization that has a reunion that lasts almost a week? All other reunions, except close family reunions last only a day. It is usually just a dinner with a few speeches. Mausica shows itself to be really a close family. Let us stay together and teach the world how to live.

My Fellow Mausicans,
What a fantastic reunion! I am still on a mental high.
Thanks to the Planning Committee of the Big Apple Reunion 2011. It was sweet to the core.
Thanks to all those who completed the index cards with comments on the reunion and suggestions for 2013.
Marj and I are working on posting them on the blog.
A special thanks to all those who participated in "Mausica Network"  and attended the after-picnic lime at Hofstra. What creativity!
We transformed a bare room into Queens Hall. The performers were great and the audience was very appreciative.
I felt the positive spirits of our visionary leaders, Harry Joe and Dudley throughout the reunion.
Have a blessed weekend.
As usual,
Rodney Foster

Hi All,
I join in the expression of thanks to Buzzie and her hard working crew.
Winston and I had a wonderful time at the reunion. The meetings,it is always a blessing to meet those we have not seen in ages or the four years; the functions; the food; the activities, all were well done and ejoyable.
We were blessed in having Carl Smith with us at the Marriot. He graciously provided transport to and fro for us and Jean and Selwyn Jacob. That was a mimi reunion in itself. Thanks all for a great stay.
We look forward to the next reunion.

Hi All,
How are you?  I just returned on Monday 8th and then had to deal with the dentist and a problem that needed an xray and damage control.  I am just getting over this so I want to add alll the "thank yous" and "appreciations" to the NY Chapter for their attention to every detail that made this reunion so very special. I am still working hard at settling back into life in T&T.  So much happened while I was away that it is not funny at all. However, I am getting back into the stream of things.
Thank you, Lance, for sharing the OAS Scholarship information. I will certainly send it around.
I know that T&T will have to be very creative to at getting the next reunion to be another one to remember.

Dear Mausican colleagues,
I heard that the reunion was a great success. Congratulations to the Planning committee. Alicia Oxley told me it is on Facebook.I had mentioned to Maria that I was trying at the last minute to see if I could make at least part of the lime, but it just did not work out. I returned from Lyon on Sunday night, absolutely exhausted, but was still hoping to fly out to NY on Tuesday evening. On my return to office, my students requested that I do a review before their supplemental exams which was  scheduled for the following week, so I decided to do it on Wednesday, which put paid to my plans to travel out on Tuesday night. Duty before pleasure. I will certainly be back in Trinidad for the 2013 reunion.
Love to all,
Hazel Thompson-Ahye

RE: interesting bio.

2011-Aug-06-1042Hrs
Just read your bio on the Weekly E-mails. Yes,you made your contribution, and must gasp in agony at the thought that we as a people seem to have lost our way.
Glad to know you were associatied with the Unit Trust Corp. The brainchild of a UWI graduate of the class of '67, the year I graduated.
People used to wonder what ecnomists do. Well that group from UWI- Richardson Andrews, Clyde Crosby  and others certainly showed what they do.
As a teacher, I take pride in the achievements of Mausicans outside the classroom. I am proudest of Anna  Maria Mora, Lester Efebo Wilinson, our first Ambasador to Cuba,Dr. Harold Robertson, former head of mission in New York and other traiblazers.
Perhaps Maria can be instrumental in creating in the library at NALIS in town, a wall of honor of dstinguished Mausicans who went beyond. Perhaps she could have them call it the Vere Romain-Achong Memorial Wall. She was my sister in law who harangued the governments for about 35 years, to build a decent library. She once damaged her foot  when it went though the floor at the Public Library on Queens Park East. She was the first medical librarian at POSGH, and trained about half the librarians now working in TNT. She died in 2006 just after helping launch my second novel at NALIS- The Sun, The Snow The Sea.
Would it not be good if the theme for 2013 is The Impact of Education- Show them a book
and watch them change the world?
Hope to see you at the reunion in 2013, in Trinidad.

Big Apple Mausica Reunion 2011

Above is the inscription on a plaque presented to me on 2011-Jul-29-Fri at the dinner/dance.
Permit me to thank the members of the New York Chapter of the Mausica Allumni. I was pleasantly surprised and relished the reaction of the audience to the announcement.  It sure seems like Mausicans appreciate what I do. My goal remains the same, namely, "keeping Mausicans connected".
As stated once before in my blog of 2007-Jul-25, I am appreciative of your contributions so keep the emails coming.
I was handsomely rewarded.

P.S. I am extending my congratulations to the members of “Big Apple Reunion 2011” organizing committee,  comprising of Mausicans and friends, on a set of well-organized events. I had the most enjoyable time. The bar was raised once again.  I look forward to seeing all the attendees and others in 2013.

Once again, keep up the good work Errol.

Hi Anna Maria, Rodney,
Congratulations Anna Maria on your election as Deputy Political Leader of COP, a really challenging assignment, every success to you!
I was going through my Mausica e-mail and I noted your suggestion regarding Mausicans who have a mark here or there. It made me try to recollect whether I had done anything worthwhile with all the opportunities I have had and I came up with a couple worth filing away for future reference.
1. At Workers Bank, I was instrumental in and overall responsible for the introduction of Automatic Banking in Trinidad and Tobago and established the very first Automatic Banking Machine in T & T in 1978 at the Independence Square & Duncan St. Head Office. I became Asst. General Managerof the Bank.
2. At Chaguaramas Development Authority where I became General Manager/CEO, I was single handedly responsible for regaining for Trinidad and Tobago the remaining lands retained by the US Government for its own use, when Chaguaramas was returned to Trinidad & Tobago. A little known fact was that at the time of the famous restoration, three large areas in the middle of Chaguaramas, identified as N1, N2 and N3 and perhaps the areas most desirable for development, were not part of the Agreement and weren't transferred, so we could do nothing with it. i immediately set about negotiating for its return so that we could proceed with our development plans and succeeded in 1991 when the lands were eventually handed over by US Ambassador Sally Cowal.
3. Together with Ian Gianetti, we planned designed and engineered the development of Chaguaramas from the derelict wasteland that it was when I joined the CDA in 1989 to the Yachting and Entertainment Capital of Trinidad & Tobago within a few short years, notwithstanding considerable difficulties and challenges from Governmental agencies.
4. As a Director of the Unit Trust Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago I contributed to the development of the Unit Trust from the struggling organisation it was when I joined in 1988 to one of the real success stories of the local financial sector. I don't claim responsibilty for its development but I admit I made my contribution.
5. As President of the Association of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Trinidad and Tobago, I was instumental in and one of the driving forces behind the modernisation of Companies Legislation in Trindad & Tobago and  worked on the Committee that drafted and persued the enactment of the new Companies Act in 1997. This Act replaced the outdated Act of 1948 and removed many of the restrictions hindering private investment in Trinidad and Tobago and opened the way for massive development which followed including foreign direct investment.
6. I was instrumental in the establishment of the Institute of Banking of Trinidad and Tobago, was elected to its first Board of Directors and became its fourth President in 1989.
Along the way, I placed first in the world in the Professional Examinations of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators, UK in 1983.
I had the honour and privilege to go to Mausica twice : once as a pioneer student and later as Mathematics Lecturer in 1971.
Thanks for spurring me to recollect.
regards!
Ron.

Hi Buzzie,
The Members of the Canadian Connection extend thanks to you and to the committee which planned such a successful reunion.  The activities were well planned and all included the "Big Apple touch".  We would also like to thank our fellow Mausicans for helping us to recreate the fun and fellowship that was Mausica, as we continue to make new friends and to re-engage with ones we knew before.  It is nice to see that time has not dulled the love we have for our college and for what it stood.
Looking forward to 2013.
Love,
