RE: MY NEW EMAIL ADDRESS

2015-AUG-25-1611Hrs
Dear Errol,
I hope you are keeping well.
It has been a while  since you heard from me, but I guess by now  you know why.
I have had a tough 7 months this year and I am hoping that the end would be easier than the beginning.
On the day of my mum's funeral in deep, south Trinidad, when I spied Progues and Carol Revelliac through the limo. window I shouted out "WHAT!!!" and made my family jump, but when I got inside the church and saw a pew full of my Mausican family including Vernetta (Brewster) Calvin-Smith , it made my day and lifted my spirit. Thank you all so much. Lets keep this family going.
Please add me to the list once more so that I could receive the weekly emails.
My new address  is:
MLB18VINUK@SKY.COM.
It does not matter if it is upper or lower case letters.
Thanks once more. God's blessings from

Dear Errol,  Selwyn et al,
I attended Myrdith Osborne-Brumant's mother's funeral at the Third Company Baptist Church in Indian Walk  last Sunday 16th August along with four other early Mausicans namely Felix Edinborough, Carole Reveillac,  Earl Carnavon and his wife Ena (Perryman).  Myrdith was happy to see us even as she said her last farewell to her Mom in a very entertaining eulogy delivered by herself and her sister Herdes.
It was my first visit ever to that part of the country and I found the service in the little country church and the people very fascinating.
I also wish to say how excited I am to read about "Ninth Floor"  the play in which Selwyn was so heavily involved in bringing to the screen. It brought back so many vivid memories for me because I was a student at Sir George Williams University when the Computer Centre on the NINTH Floor was occupied and later was the scene of a fire and the student riot.  Well done Selwyn!   I look forward to viewing it some time soon.

I am very sorry if my remark about"not attending the reunion for frivolous reasons" caused offence to anyone. That was not my attention. I guess I got carried away  ,I really do apologize.

Hi Errol,
We are much more closely connected than many of us realize. My condolences to Myrdith. I do not know Myrdith Osbourne-Brumant. However, my sister Millicent Sambury, formerly Millicent Gray, had her funeral service and is buried in the church yard of the Third Company Baptist Church.
My sister lived in the Indian Walk area for a long time before she passed. Lystra Sampson and Elsa Rodgers are also from the area.
Claire, I hope that you are with us the next time around, I miss your candor, whether I agree with it or not.
Selwyn, in looking up the National Film Board of Canada website  (https://www.nfb.ca/), I also came across "The Road Taken" (1996). This is a 52 minute film about the black railroad workers on the Canadian Railways. I am going to make an effort to be in Toronto for the viewing on Monday 14th.

My condolences go out to Myrdith.  This is never easy. I have a ninety year old Dad, but they loved us and cared for us and we must return the love unconditionally no matter what. Anna Maria
Now to the Reunion. I share Clare's sentiments. Reading Euline's comments stopped me in my tracks and had me going Mmmm.  The July-August Vacation is the time when my Youth Centre does its paid  work. It is a time when my account gets a big break and I am able to retrieve some funds.  If the Reunion happens in the third week of the vacation every year and I get a contract to organize a programme for a Corporate Entity, I will have to choose the one which keeps the youth programme alive. That I hope is not a "frivolous reason."  I was really saddened by the comment.

Hello Everyone,
I must say that I enjoyed the very informative summary of your Jamaica trip.
I was happy to note that Carlston touched on "long term planning being essential".
The year  2015 started off without any word of Reunion plans so I went ahead and booked a family trip to guess where....Montego Bay, Jamaica for August 15th , exactly one month after the Reunion date..
I think the decision to go to Jamaica should have been announced way in advance. Long term planning is also necessary for people who still work.
However I am not surprised that the Planning Committee did an excellent job. I did receive a call from Angela.
Kudos to you all.
Just wanted to add that I did not miss this Reunion for "frivolous" reasons. I have only missed one other Reunion due to work schedules. I must emphasize the importance of long term planning.
Keep up the good work, ladies and gentlemen!!!
Warmly,

Hello Errol/Fellow Mausicans,
At the Reunion in J/A, I announced that the World Premiere of Ninth Floor will be taking place at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) Sept. 10-20. For those of you who are in T/O or are planning to be in T/O, there will be two screenings – one on SAT Sept 12 , and the second on MON Sept 14. Dates are confirmed , but the times are not. I’ll update you as soon as they are confirmed.
As of today, it will screen at Vancouver (VIFF), Calgary and Halifax film festivals. And there will be a Trinidad premiere later this year or early next year.
Have a look at the trailer below and see if it tickles your fancy. If it does, then scroll down to “Bonus” and you can view a 90 sec clip from the film. There is also a press kit which has additional information about the film , etc. If you would like a copy send Errol or me a note, and we’ll email to you asap.

RE: Reunion

2015-AUG-13-1907Hrs
Hi All,
Thanks once more to the organizers of the reunion.
Winston and I enjoyed our stay in Jamaica. It was pleasurable arriving at the breakfast table and greeting or being greeted by Mausicans. There was the dip in the sea by those who cared to before breakfast. Then there were the outings. These were real outings, stopping on the way to buy roasted yam, or fruits or fish late into the night. The pool parties were also part of the camaraderie. All culminated with the wonderful final night, a night to remember. Most importantly, I know everyone by name. We look forward to 2017. God bless.

Hi Errol,
I have read the various comments from persons who attended the 2015 Reunion and I am very happy for those who derived many memorable experiences therefrom.
However, I feel compelled to respond to the remarks posted by Euline Peters. The last time I checked we still live in a democratic country and for her to describe as "frivolous" the reasons some persons opted not to attend was demeaning and uncalled for. The choice of accepting or rejecting is always the prerogative of the individual. Thanks.

Set me add my congratulations to the participants at this years reunion. I have to take Carlston's advice and join a sou sou for the next one. However, I must ask if Mausicans have lost their verve and respect for tradition. Negril is world famous as a nudist beach.....
Alas, yuh mean Mausicans did not maintain the tradition?........

Congratulations to the Reunion 2015 Committee for the successful event in Jamaica.  Looking forward to seeing pics.  I love Jamaica and really missed being there.   Have many friends there. Carnival 2016 sounds like a really great plan.  I now produce a Children's Carnival Band. Will see the schedule of events before I plan.  Mausicans and Carnival in Trinidad, WOW! Just the thought of it boggles the mind. Ah doh tink anything will hold we down. Double and Triple WOW!

RE: Reunions and planning for them.

2015-AUG-04-2253Hrs
Hi Everyone,
For those of you who had to opportunity to explore Western Jamaica, let’s celebrate the occasion and the wonderful time we had. The pleasure of our visit to YS falls in the Black River area of Westmorland was one that leaves an indelible impression on the mind. Many of us believe that this water park is much more attractive than the more famous Dunns River fall. The brave and agile ones followed the crowd and climbed the famous falls. The rest of us just enjoyed the therapeutic flow of the waterfall as it entered the sea.
As promised, we enjoyed meals cooked on a traditional open-flame pit, Jamaican style. The Far-Out Fish Hut almost couldn’t handle the number of orders for fish and Bammy. The wait was long, but the food was good.
Our Negril day started out very quiet. Margaritaville, and more bathing on the seven mile beach. The resident DJ welcomed the group and we shared a birthday cake for one of the ladies. The Conch Chowder was so good, my roommate had two servings.
But it was at Rick’s Café where the Mausica spirit came alive. Some of the visitors came up to Howard Spencer asking if he was Steve Harvey or his brother. Who tell them to say that? Howard commandeered the microphone from the lead “singer” and had the crow rocking. We had a great time, Mausica style. Ah! The good old days.
For those who chose to stay away, you missed a great lime. Reunions do not have to take the form of the previous ones.
On one of our nightcap discussions, (yes we had plenty of places to gather as a group – indoors and outdoors), we talked about our next two reunions. The first, in 2017 should be held in T&T during the week of July 17th. We believed that if the time frame is circulated early, people can make their plans around those dates.
The idea of a cruise for the 2019 gathering was also aired. It was mentioned that Trinidad may be a port of embarkation in the near future. If this becomes a reality, it may be an ideal situation for us. There is also a Canadian based cruise line that goes around Cuba. We can join the cruise in Montego Bay on a Friday or in Havana on a Monday. With the opening of the Cuban market to the US population, competition will surely drive the prices down.
Whatever the decision, long term planning is essential. Reserve the third week of July! Start you Sou Sou hands now!

Mausica Reunion 2015
I enjoyed the Jamaica reunion not just because I celebrated a special birthday, but also because of the camaraderie and warmth exuded throughout the six days.
The sites were aptly chosen and well appreciated as they catered to all - the arthritic and non-arthritic, the lively and the not so lively, the daring and the not so daring.
Negril was the place where everyone knew of the Mausica Possy and a birthday girl in the midst because of the number of times we got hailed out.  I am sure we also left our mark in the other places we visited and enjoyed.......Dunns River Falls, Rick's Cafe, (where Howard became the lead vocalist with the band), YS Falls and two Great Houses.
Jamaica, like Grenada, reinforces the beauty of the Caribbean.
In addition, the drivers were very reliable, punctual and friendly. They went out of their way to meet our demands.
Angela and Carlston you have made me appreciate even more the results of positivity and determination. Had you both and the rest of the committee not been blessed with those virtues, we would not have experienced such a wonderful trip.
I thank everyone for a memorable trip and look forward to another in the shortest time possible.
