Hi Errol,
I am back online after all the drama. I had to try and remember your email address. Please send me the blog mail again and let everyone know that I am back online. It has been a real trial for me, but I did not want to become too attached to this computer and the internet. I survived. My computer was returned to me just now all cleaned up and with something called "spybot" installed. I now have to clean this up every week. Actually the technician said that if I use the internet a lot I will need to do this every week. Now this is another "thing" with which I have to deal. What a thing. Let me know when you receive this and send me all your other emails. I will have to search avidly for all the emails. Some I would have discarded, so I have to begin all over again. Anna Maria The technician told me that everything is on, but I am not on hotmail again so I am not sure how to import all my contacts into gmail. I will have to ask him. I have been sitting here for about an hour and only sent 5 emails. Had to sign up and read contract, accept terms and conditions and strain my brain to remember my sisters' email addresses, my niece and two friends. You are the sixth. Hope I remembrd. Will see if it is sent. A World full of love and Blessings Abundant. Anna Maria

Hi to all Mausican colleagues and friends.
I too was surprised to hear of Roland Gordon's passing as I has spoken with him on the cruise last November. In his own style he had seen me first waiting in line and came up and embraced me from behind. That was Roland. Monica Davis - I am so glad to hear from you. Just last month Bernice was in Trinidad. Barbara, Judy and I took her along with her husband to lunch. Marlene Gilbert was supposed to be there but had another engagement.

Double blogging this week to introduce the 3 top Junior Calypsonians on Montserrat after the 11th Annual contest hosted by the Montserat Union of Teachers
This year and for the third time, they were backed up by Small Beginnings an orchestra made up of young people who are just so dedicated, under the tutelage of Herman Cupid Francis, former teacher and now co ordinator of Culture who with no formal training in music is doing the best he can to help the youth of the island.
The contest is a feature of the St Patrick's Week of activities... now somebody tell me why we celebrate this Feast on Montserrat!
First place : Jaemal "ALOES" Jeffers, a Grade 6 pupil who also won the Best newcomer prize and the prize for the best calypso in the compulsory History Round
He sang Montserrat nice still and Abuses, no excuses
Second place Dikembe Cabey who sang Haiti Will Rise in his second round ( photo 24 )and a tribute to an educator, sportswoman, and Politician Mary Tuitt.
Third place: Kimberley " little Kim" Duberry who sang Lest We Forget and Potholes ( photo 16 )
The line up of young calypsonians ( one was missing when the shot was taken)

Hey fellow Mausicans, what a pleasure to sit and read all the Mausica news. To read of the passing of our Mausica brothers and sisters ,their children, our lecturers is painful.Dear Bridget Henry- Haye also passed away on August 24 last year. Know who is back living in Tobago now? Eileen Warner- Graham. Yes, she is back home with her dear husband Sam.She and Sam dropped by to see me just after their arrival back in Tobago soon after the passing of my husband. They are still settling down. Well ,love to all Mausicans. Mary, Elmo, Buzzie and those in New York, see you in May,2010.Eastlyn(64-66)

Many thanks to Barbara Burgess and Monica Davis who identified the Bromeliad for me. Only yesterday I learnt that a friend here might actually have a live one... will check it out. I don't think we can stop our fellow Mausicans from leaving us. What we can do however, is to let them know that we love and appreciate them before they get to the other side. I think the record is good on that score... part of the evidence is the increasing number of grand- Mausicans who make it to the reunions.
Hi June Raphael. Felix is when and where you find him! He is the reincarnation of the Scarlet Pimpernell.... only responds to emergencies, no time for ole talk!

Hi Folks,
Last week Saturday I attended a special meeting of the Teachers' Credit Union.I was given a report from 2008 to deal with the business on hand. In it there was the picture of Roland. So he was not only a musician and a seller of African goods but a member of the Credit Union Board. Interesting.

Errol, this is really a wonderful way of keeping in touch and getting news of fellow Mausicans. It gave me such pleasure to read an e-mail from Monica Davis. I would love to see her.
Can't we have some more social events in between the big biennial ones where we can meet and greet one another. Perhaps every quarter ,or so.
I am off to Jamaica next Tuesday for the rest of that week. Are there any Mausicans in Jamaica ? I know Robin and Errol are no longer with CXC.
I am coming home for Easter.
Love and blessings to all fellow Mausicans and their families.

The world champion bromeliad grower, is my former mentor teacher, Mrs. Elizabeth Lala of Pro Queen Street, Arima.I had meant to tell Pat, but was busy preparing for a workshop at a high school, on women's achievements. Mrs.Lala is a member of the Horticultural Soiety of Trinidad and Tobago, and has exhibited her plants all over the world. She might be in the TnT phone book.
When we were kids,we used to find them growing on big trees on the Cumuto Main Road near the Matapando River. All of that land probably has houses on it now. If you know how, you could improve the color of the inside.

Hi Errol,
Glad you are back at your role.
I am happy that a picture of Roland was on the blog as I never knew him. May his soul rest in peace.
Thanks for the tribute Felix. It fits the description of the person.
Pat, your plant loves to grow on big trees like the samaan. It's a bromeliad (spell?) and is very popular with garden enthusiasts.

How wonderful, the Mausica Weekly e-Mails feature is back. Thanks Errol.... It allows me to share my celebration of the life of Roland Gordon...... what a life... 'he was like salt... in everything... in everything cultural'
I last ran into Roland in a gateway on Charlotte Street downtown, at what we would call, a 'bend down mall'. he was selling African garments, including some lovely dresses. And his usual energetic style, he said:
"Gwen girl, ah so glad to see you..... ah keeping the Africa trade alive! We in the diaspora have to maintain the cultural links with the continent.... and sales really picking up.... same good quality as in the fancy boutiques ...."
May he rest in peace..... he has gone to guffaw with Myroon, Andre (Tanker), George Bailey, and the other great cultural icons..... I can see Mr. Maunday smiling at them... bemused, and happily so.

I don't DO face book or twitter and the rest... not enough time but I so love our BLOG!
My friend from Senegal was "hacked" just over a year ago and I got a letter, supposedly from her, asking for money as she was stranded in the Phillipines... as soon as I saw how poor the language was I knew something was wrong and contacted her daughter who confirmed my suspicions. The other giveaway was the amount of money requested! my friend KNOWS that I cant put my hands on such funds !. I wish people would use their brains to earn an honest living.
Blessings... Pat

Hallelujah!
I too was puzzled by the absence of the blog, but optimistically put it down to Carnival in Trinidad and only gave in to my suspense yesterday with a query to Anna Maria. So happy to take up where we left off. Errol you are a treasure beyond measure.
I spent the last week in Nevis at a workshop. The attached photo is of a plant in my room there. I was so taken by its beauty that I photographed it to find out more about it. Took me a little while to realise it was artificial and probably does not exist in nature! ... don't judge a book by its cover! Continue to pray for Peace during this season of Lent.

I know about internet access in TnT. My nephew a medical doctor, had no access for three weeks at a time while being billed $500.00 plus a month, when they "fixed" it, they crossed his line with his mothers, and stillno internet. I had to go down to UWI where a close friend is on the faculty, and use e-mail from his ofice!
On anther note, Rodney Foster informs e that Mrs. Helen Pyne-Timothy, lectuerr in English at Mausica,69-?is stricken with PArkinson's, and is definitely on the wane. One issue he raised was what to do with her extensive collection of books. He was of the impression that neither the National Library nor UWI libarary wanted them. I suggested that maybe the Corinth Teachers'College in the far south, might want them but I am not sure if that is still in existence. Now Theodore Lewis is at the Cirpriani Labour College, as well as a friend of mine who helped launch my secod book-Kwame Nantambu
.Kwame regularly writes on trinicenter.com, so he is easy to contact.
Could someone find out if either of those institutions would be interested in expanding their reading room with Helen's collection?
Young people may not currently appreciate books, what with KIindle, book-DVD's and such, but when the pendulum swings again, old books once owned by a Jamaican scholar, who maried a Trini, and became totally immersed in our culture, may be tremendously appreciated
Helen's e-mail is helenpynetimothy@hotmail.com. She lives in the foorhills of theNorthern Range, in Port-of-Spain.

Hi Mausicans,
I just want to share this short tribute that I did (and performed) for Roland:
ROLAND GORDON TRIBUTE
Ah hearing ah pan beating
Ah guitar strumming
Best Village performing
Soca singers jamming
Calypsonians singing
And ah seeing ah man judging
One man in all them ting
I talking about Roland Gordon my pardner
And I brand him ah all purpose cultural character
Who have music in he veins
And culture in he brains
Ah know this sounding like ah eulogy
But this is what the country think ah he
A cultural icon of T&T
So I pray the Lord to let him rest in peace for all eternity.

Hi Brenda,
How are you and yours? Greetings from New Jersey and Hyacinth and I are sending to you the warmth that only Mausicans can feel at this time in this part of the temperate world.
I have not been seeing any contributions from Errol for about a month now. Just thought I would reach out to you to see if you know anything about his situation. I do hope he is fine, but I am left to wonder since his weekly submissions came to such an abrupt end.
I miss reading about us. What Errol provided is an important lifeline and if I could help to continue doing so, I would offer my services willingly.
Looking forward to hearing from you,
