Thanks Rodney, Inez and even Eileen (get well soon) for calling out and naming some of the 1966- 1968 year groups.

At many events we the members of the 1966-1968 are often not present.

However, we of that era worked together hard and well to straddle with the pioneers and embrace the new changes to come to Mausica.

For instance, at our leaving the institution, at our graduation in 1968 also leaving with us were,

Our/ the best, beloved Principal Harrison Joseph [ Harry Joe] and other stalwart members of staff -

Ms Woods in Home Economics and the elderly Maths teacher, Mr John Mark.

However, in our last year, we initiated change and welcomed a new and different era of music with Ms June Joseph

as well as new Maths syllabus taught by the first non- local teacher - .

True Inez we have lost a few of us some painfully just after graduation but for those who remain may we continue to flourish and grow whether in retirement or still at work and in spite of our Hostels. To identify and shout a few others from our ladies group that I can recall by name

Really the most fun-filled years of my youth..such wonderful memories, kept alive via this blog. Initiation: cutting lawn with a razor blade and sleeping for five nights on the bedspring. Pineapple Smith, Mayfair Radio Station which had some holding their breath, the refectory, food fights, concerts, fetes, after- supper walks to hostels , Ceterus Paribus Elmo Phillip, friends for life, Joan, Drupatee, Cynthia, Annette, Pat, Beetha, Gemma, dearest Claudina:my roommate for two years,

Calypso competition, Cuffie and Fanny, folk singing. History- class:before- snack nap. Ageless, wonderful memories. I can go on and on

I can never forget that trip to Guyana. After waiting for hours in Piarco from in the morning, the plane finally arrived to take us to Guyana in the night. While on the way, rain started to fall, and the plane began to leak, and it was cold.I went into the toilet. While there, I saw a pocket, and on opening the pocket to inspect the contents, I saw that it was the papers for the plane. I saw that the plane was made in 1944, during WW2. Were not sitting in seats facing forward, but along the sides of the plane. The body of the plane was filled with cargo.When we landed, It WAS a relief. The press was there waiting to welcome us. I had my quatro, and I started playing a Mausican folk song. Boykin, I believe. Everyone of us joined in the singing of the song, and the press photographers had a field day.

Good to see Eileen Pilgrim on the blog.....from my year group, 67-69. Hope you recover well Eileen, to face 2020. Our year group was not easy. Errol Jones, Pearl Mulrain, Yvonne FitzAndrews, Gwendoline Wiliiams (Peter), Arthur Hume, Babara Davis (Walker), Kenneth Parmasad, Gregory Byrne, Django (Udho Rambaran), Kenneth Bobb, Nazir Khan, Clyde Maurice, Cuthbert Matthews (Clang), Maura Cosselal, Marie Louise Felice, Allisford Phillip; Victorinus David; Toco (Victor White); Davis Charles; Deodath Maharaj; Wray McBurnie (whom I had fought twice on Roy Joseph Street in San Fernando in front of our school, before we bounce up again in Mausica, all forgotten); Noel Duncan; Orman Fournillier; and of course, Allison (Gibbons) Lewis.

A good place to stop.

Present when we take Django in Haven Foyer for throwing cowitch in my bed (the man climb up the ground floor window of Martin Brathwaite(Braf) an Mice to do that; Aware of who flood Mayfair ground floor that cause Beck to come to Fair Haven Square with a cutlass crying--because he room flood, and shoes floating down the corridor); Nobody in Haven come out.

Grell cup we vex because the Warden post a sign calling Haven "campus donkey" . Me and Sto put up a sign on our door encouraging hostel men to throw their rubbish in our room....because we object to the hostel being disparaged like that....we room full up with all kinda rubbish, including cane peeling and orange skin.....evidence that many of the men lived partially off the Mausica land.

Yes folks,Mausica,lovely Mausica,where many of us would have spent the best two years of our life.

How many of you guys remember raiding Mr.Jai Ramkissoon orange field across the road in the dead of night?

How many of you remember going to Guyana to work on the road to Brazil?I

How many of you remember bringing back Guyanese one cent piece to use in Matron's vending machine as ten cent piece?

I am sure you guys would remember the famous panty raid that had the girls bawling next morning when they recognised their undies flying on the flag pole.

My most vivid memory is going with the fellas to drink by Malibu during curfew and stopped by police about 10.00 pm on our way back to hostel.Hear nah man,an never hear fellas beg so in meh life.We even had the police laughing with/at us.Anyway,we were let off the hook with a warning.

Next time nah.

I enjoyed reading about some of the experiences of our Mausicans . Like you Scratchie I feel nostalgic when I pass D'Abadie /Mausica Rd. junction. This is not often though since I cannot drive as I am recuperating from major back surgery and live in Petit Valley. My Fellow Mausicans, Last week, I had another peak experience. I visited my cousin, Carlston and his family in Edison, New Jersey.

I first met Carlston in Bon Accord, Tobago. I looked forward to spending vacation in Tobago with my Tobagonian relatives. What a time! I enjoyed Alene’s ackee and saltfish and green banana. Ah eat three times!!!

On Saturday, it was great fun seeing Mausicans celebrating the Christmas Season in Central TNT. My Mausican brothers and sisters were having a ball.

Thanks for maintaining the Mausica Spirit.

While in New Jersey, I discovered that Mr. Eric Iton, my favorite teacher in elementary school, had passed way in November last year.

Mr. ton was an excellent teacher and role model. He taught Exhibition Class, Std. V.

Just ask my classmates: Keith Alcantara, Mervyn Ali, Juliana Alexander, Allison Aaron, Andrew Achoy, St Clair Bartholomew, Kenrick Barnes, Davidson Chin, ? Celestine, Patricia Chandler, Patsy Chanasing, Myrtle Critchlow, Michael Edwards, alias Polka, Delano Davis, Erwin Leonce, aka Grandpa, Irwin Jack, Angela Mohan, Phyllis Otway, Sandra O’Bouland, Karen Ramkissoon, Annie Payne, Cheryl Gittens, Sylvia Sookdeo, Diane Nurse, Pamela Parker, Giger Punette, Angeline Walker, Kenneth Meade, Oliver St. Homer, Rudolph Pinky Skinner and Errol Williams.

Yes, Mr. Iton, yuh had ah good innings, 88. Thanks to Iton from Brighton, La Brea. May you rest in Peace.

A special shout out to Ken Marshall who taught me in Form IV at Osmond HS in San Juan. He also introduced me to limin on De Drag , Frederick Street and then retiring tuh Humming Bird and drinking ah cold Carib. Meh pardnah, Beck, had ah better place. Dock Workers Club. Up dey had more beer, black puddin, souse, hops bread and pepper sauce. An ah Juke Box. Yuh talk bout lime. Oh, wat fun yuh coulda have wit three thirty.

Greetings to my Haven brother and second year Rodney Foster, red Guard man. It is good to hear about Carlsbury from you Rodney, to know that you both have maintained that roommate bond for over half a century now. I glad you liked that Ancil Wyatt track I sent you.

I still think that our stance of not allowing Centeno men into our fetes was the correct one, and also the ban we had on UWI men. It was not an unreasonable stance since it was not our fault that Centeno had only one girl. We had to defend our territory. Langston Roach and some of the other UWI men learned that we would let in a few of them, on a case by case basis, depending on our assessment of their motives and desires. But we were not intimidated by UWI men.

Yes my roommate Sto christened me. Just this week he came to see me bringing some wild meat that he had negotiated for me. Recently his daughter, grand-daughter and husband visited, on vacation from England, where she practices medicine. A visit to Uncle Scratchie is always part of the agenda when they come down. This time around there was still a few mangoes on one of my trees, so the grand daughter was able to experience the great Caribbean joy of picking up a long mango from under a tree, in Uncle Scrathie's backyard. That grand daughter has visited since a toddler, and of course as with her mom, I too am beloved uncle Scratchie, second generation. She and her daddy sang the Leeds United football club song, with great animation, for the pleasure of Uncle Scratchie.

The Mausica spirit is indestructible. It burns bright, across the generations. I live in Arima and pass the junction everyday. The sign saying Mausica Road, stands as an eternal flame. It is so much more that a road sign for me.

My Fellow Mausicans,

Every day I thank the Lord for selecting me to be a Mausican. Just imagine receiving an invitation at 10: am one Tuesday morning for an interview at 9:00 am the very day. By some miracle , I arrived at the Ministry in time to be interviewed. I received my letter of acceptance the Wednesday. On Thursday morning, I arrived at Mausica during morning assembly. Leroy Cox, Carl Caton and some girls from Villanowa welcomed me with open arms. What a blessing! Aye, Scratchie, thanks for the musical stroll down Memory Lane. Reminded me of my dancing days in HMJ Hall. Dem girls coulda real dance, boy. Especially meh dancing pardnah from Couva!
