Hi everyone,
I enjoyed reading about some of the experiences of our Mausicans . Like you Scratchie I feel nostalgic when I pass D'Abadie /Mausica Rd. junction. This is not often though since I cannot drive as I am recuperating from major back surgery and live in Petit Valley.  For those of you who do not remember me by the name Eileen Pilgrim, you may remember me from the description of the girl from Aruba with the strange Dutch accent.  Eileen Pilgrim.  Kirkendale Hostel.  1967 - 1969

My Fellow Mausicans, Last week, I had another peak experience. I visited my cousin, Carlston and his family in Edison, New Jersey.
I first met Carlston in Bon Accord, Tobago. I looked forward to spending vacation in Tobago with my Tobagonian relatives. What a time! I enjoyed Alene’s ackee and saltfish and green banana. Ah eat three times!!!
On Saturday, it was great fun seeing Mausicans celebrating the Christmas Season in Central TNT. My  Mausican brothers and sisters were having a ball.
Thanks for maintaining the Mausica Spirit.
While in New Jersey, I discovered that Mr. Eric Iton,  my favorite teacher in elementary school, had passed way in November last year.
Mr. ton was an excellent teacher and role model. He taught Exhibition Class, Std. V.
Just ask my classmates: Keith Alcantara, Mervyn Ali, Juliana Alexander, Allison Aaron, Andrew Achoy, St Clair Bartholomew, Kenrick Barnes, Davidson Chin, ? Celestine,  Patricia Chandler, Patsy Chanasing, Myrtle Critchlow,  Michael Edwards, alias Polka, Delano Davis, Erwin Leonce, aka Grandpa, Irwin Jack, Angela Mohan, Phyllis Otway, Sandra O’Bouland, Karen Ramkissoon, Annie Payne, Cheryl Gittens, Sylvia Sookdeo, Diane Nurse, Pamela Parker, Giger Punette, Angeline Walker, Kenneth Meade, Oliver St. Homer, Rudolph Pinky Skinner and Errol Williams.
Yes, Mr. Iton, yuh had ah good innings, 88. Thanks to Iton from Brighton, La Brea. May you rest in Peace.
A special shout out to Ken Marshall who taught me in Form IV at Osmond HS in San Juan. He also introduced me to limin on De Drag , Frederick Street and then retiring tuh Humming Bird and drinking ah cold Carib. Meh pardnah, Beck,  had ah better place. Dock Workers Club. Up dey had more beer, black puddin, souse, hops bread and pepper sauce. An ah Juke Box. Yuh talk bout lime. Oh, wat fun yuh coulda have wit three thirty.
Enjoy de holidays. Alisford help Claudette put up de curtains, on time.
As usual,

Greetings to my Haven brother and second year Rodney Foster, red Guard man. It is good to hear about Carlsbury from you Rodney, to know that you both have maintained that roommate bond for over half a century now. I glad you liked that Ancil Wyatt track I sent you.
I still think that our stance of not allowing Centeno men into our fetes was the correct one, and also the ban we had on UWI men. It was not an unreasonable stance since it was not our fault that Centeno had only one girl. We had to defend our territory. Langston Roach and some of the other UWI men learned that we would let in a few of them, on a case by case basis, depending on our assessment of their motives and desires. But we were not intimidated by UWI men.
Yes my roommate Sto christened me. Just this week he came to see me bringing some wild meat that he had negotiated for me. Recently his daughter, grand-daughter and husband visited, on vacation from England, where she practices medicine. A visit to Uncle Scratchie is always part of the agenda when they come down. This time around there was still a few mangoes on one of my trees, so the grand daughter was able to experience the great Caribbean joy of picking up a long mango from under a tree, in Uncle Scrathie's backyard. That grand daughter has visited since a toddler, and of course as with her mom, I too am beloved uncle Scratchie, second generation. She and her daddy sang the Leeds United football club song, with great animation,  for the pleasure of Uncle Scratchie.
The Mausica spirit is indestructible. It burns bright, across the generations. I live in Arima and pass the junction everyday. The sign saying Mausica Road, stands as an eternal flame.  It is so much more that a road sign for me.
Theodore Lewis (Lord Scratchie, calypso king, 1969; Victor Ludorum, same year. Fair Haven man)

My Fellow Mausicans,
Every day I thank the Lord for selecting me to be a Mausican.  Just imagine receiving an invitation at 10: am one Tuesday morning for an interview at 9:00 am the very day. By some miracle , I arrived at the Ministry in time to be interviewed.  I received my letter of acceptance the Wednesday. On Thursday morning,  I arrived at Mausica during morning assembly. Leroy Cox, Carl Caton and some girls from Villanowa welcomed me with open arms.  What a blessing!  Aye,  Scratchie, thanks for the musical stroll down Memory Lane. Reminded me of my dancing days in HMJ Hall. Dem girls coulda real dance, boy. My Fellow Mausicans, Marjorie and I extend our condolences to the Bellile family. We remember their warm hospitality at their home in 2005 during our Reunion in Toronto. Big Brother Ainsley was an excellent role  model  for the young men of the 66-68 year group. How well do I remember the well- groomed Havenite with his distinguished path and wavy hair,  quiet demeanor and  slightly bandy leg crawl. No way. My  roommate Cox was more bandy-legged. May you rest in peace my friend. It was a pleasure knowing you. Congrats Selwyn. Keep our Mausican flag flying. On September 18th, I visited my roommate, Carlsbury Gonzalez, in Albany, New York. What a time we had. Carl’s Mom is 104 years old and had us laughing. Carl was feeding her some chicken which he had cut up in tiny pieces.  We both cracked up when she blurted out, “Wey de chicken!” More about Mom next time when I find some photos that Carl sent me. Yes. I am technologically challenged. As usual,
Rodney Foster. 66-68

Fellow Mausicans, last week I raised the question of our heritage of folk songs, because I could find only Christina" on the internet. Our dear fellow alumnus Dr. Gwendoline Williams has written to me indicating that she has located and has in her possession a store of our audio-taped folk recordings.
Given the heritage value of this, we need guidance on what to do to move these recordings onto You-Tube. Who among us can have this done, on the condition that the originals are returned intact to Gwennie.

My Fellow Mausicans,
“Together We Aspire. Together we Achieve.”
Last Saturday, August 24th, The Trinidad & Tobago Association of Georgia, Inc, demonstrated the power of our country’s motto. We hosted a wonderful and enjoyable Scholarship Awards and Dinner Dance at the Pametto Event Center in Decatur, GA.  Under the leadership of Hazel Mitchell, President, and supportive members, we had a ball.
Rakuumba Nedd , a teacher and renowned artist, coined the theme for the program, “Let the Past Set the Stage for a Brighter Tomorrow.” Keynote Speaker, Stephanie Power, delivered a powerful and inspiring address. Sekel Mc Intosh, TNT Junior Soca Monarch, guest of Alan Nottingham, was fantastic. Vanessa Weekes, of Step by Step Caterers, provided a scrumptious dinner.
Of course, there were Mausicans. Alan Simpson from Grandee and a former president, celebrated his birthday. There was a scholarship in memory of our brother, Melsher Snaggs.  Marissa Williams and Rodney Foster were the MCs for the gala affair.
So long for now my friends.
As usual,
Rodney Foster 66-68

RE: Mausica folk songs

2019-AUG-23-2134Hrs
Fellow Mausicans:
I was looking online (You-Tube) for Mausica folk songs recently, and I found only a rendering of "Christina". I was wondering (as Andre Stephens of Mayfair would say) whether that cannot be a project someone with the wherewithal can take on. Get all of the music on those LPs onto Youtube.
La Petite Musical has beaten us to that. They have some music on the net. I recently was looking for their "mangoes", but also played their very lovely "Every time ah pass".

RE: Post by Kathleen Luke-Brizan July 2019

2019-AUG-02-1021Hrs
Fellow Mausicans,
As a fellow member of year group 65-67, I fully endorse all sentiments expressed by Kathleen Luke-Brizan (known to me as Cherry Percival-Luke)in her email of July 30th,2019. I must confess though, that I did not remember July 29th as our graduation day. I guess Cherry remembered as the Sunday following graduation, was a momentous day in her life. Cherry, you took me down memory lane. Your memory is fantastic. Mausica was truly an experience like no other - a coming-of-age for many of us.
Re-quoting Cherry-
"and most importantly, the long-lasting relationships developed with our fellow students as colleagues, friends, husbands and wives, And I could go on and on. Yes, Mausica truly impacted our lives richly and unforgettably with experiences ….. I'm proud to have been a part of that era."
I could not have said it better myself.
Sorry, I could not make the Cuba trip. Seems as if you all had a great time.  As our numbers dwindle, we need to keep the love flowing, by living in love and keeping in touch with each other.
Love & Blessings

I join with all my fellow Mausica graduates of 65-67 year group to celebrate fifty-two years of becoming graduate teachers on July 29th
The significance of this day is never forgotten although we are now retirees. My experience at Mausica will always be cherished .Teaching Practice , Initiation when the girls were targeted by second year males to serve them breakfast and lunch.  The assembly performances, Harry Joseph ringing the bell for the ladies to hurry to the parties so he could dance. The girls running to hide in the washroom to escape  dancing with him, The long nights of recording for our first album,  The choir's long journeys to remote country areas to perform and the singimg in the bus everytime.  The Inter hostel sports with  CarverScobie starring in a clip showing his marching skills which was repeatedly played to the  laughter of those looking on, the Carnival competitions ,the calypsoes like Tootoowa amd Modern maths.  the choir's command performance for Dr Eric Williams and Kenneth Kaunda ,Prime Minister of Zambia ,  Our winning the Champion Folk song Choir Trophy at Music Festival, the lecturers, Mr Hamlyn Dukhan and Joseph Mangatal , The Warden,  Mrs Cuffie and Connie Roopchand.  Remember Matron and the locusts?  How about Mr John Estok the Canadian lecturer dancing in a line across  the room with his wife? Our exposure to the arts , Miriam Makeba , the African Ballet  and others whose names I cant recall.  And most importantly, the long lasting relatioships developed with our fellow students as colleagues, friends, husbands and wives, And I could go on and on. Yes Mausica truly impacted our lives richly and unforgettably with experiences
we were able to pass on in some way to our children and students. I'm proud  to have been a part of that era.

RE: MAUSICA WEEKLY EMAILS 2019-JUL-12

2019-JUL-13-0809Hrs
My Fellow Mausicans,
On Friday, July 13th, 1973, after fulfilling my five year contract with the Government, I departed Sweet TNT for Brooklyn , New York. My goal was to become a Guidance Counselor and return to TNT to serve my country. Today, I will celebrate my 46th anniversary in the USA.
Who really designs our journey?
The Mausica experience has been a very significant part of my journey. I thank all those who have contributed to it. Big shout out to Villa Nova. If yuh call ah name , ah might whistle!
How well do I remember arriving at  MTC  on a Thursday morning during assembly. I roomed with Leroy Cox, from de Coconut in El Socorro, during my first year. I had an excellent mentor. In my second year , Carlsbury Gonzalez from Chaguanas was my roommate.
Carl and I are like blood brothers. His mother, 104 years old, is my friend and adopted mother. We chat and laugh on Whats App.
Recently Carl and I recalled our interviews for selection to MTC. Brightboy Carl had an impressive bio.
One of his hobbies was collecting stamps. Mr. Joseph asked, “What do you call a person who collects stamps?
Bightboy shout out. “A stamp collector.”
Sneaky Harry Joe replied , “He is called a Philatelist.”
Carl and I laughed our heads off. Carl won the award for “Best All Round Male Student” 66-68.
In my interview, the trick question was “How do you define failure?”
The Lord whispered to me, “A temporary disappointment.”
Ah hit dem fuh six. Interview done.
I received my acceptance letter on a Wednesday. I arrived at MTC the following day. The rest is Mystory.
My Fellow Mausicans, please share your MTC stories with us. Leh we laugh till we cry..
As Usual,
Rodney Foster 66-68

RE: Condolence

2019-JUN-27-1434Hrs
"We The North" extend our sympathy to the children, family and friends of Annette Sylvester ('63 - '65).
Annette lived in Kirkendale and her room-mate was Sumattee Tota (deceased 2017). She was also a member of the Mausica Choir.
I will always remember her as smiling, friendly and patient.
