RE: SEA Underachievers

2017-Aug-26-1141Hrs
I wish to commend Hazel for that compassionate article. It comes from the heart of a true teacher. Too many times the underachievers are neglected or their true needs are not properly addressed and they simply pass through the system. Well done  Hazel. Let us hope Anthony reads it and addresses it adequately.

Condolences to the family of Malcom Pena and may the God of all comfort give them the strength to deal with their loss at this time.

RE: Fwd: Get together

2017-Aug-19-0613Hrs
Hello Errol,
I had to share Scratchie's letter with My Fellow Mausicans. I got his permission.
Scratchie's poetic piece captures the essence of the Mausica experience. Reunion 2017 gave us an opportunity to relive it.
Whenever I hear about the "Molding A Nation Through Service" activities that Mausicans are involved in,, I am energized and proud to be a Mausican.  Our theme," Living The Legacy" is alive.
Thank you Scratchie and all my Mausican Brothers and Sisters who are the change agents in our communities. Please keep us informed about your contributions to " making the world a better place".
Sincerely,
Rodney Foster 66-68

Subject: Get together
My Brother Rodney:
By now we should have worked out that our common sojourn on that sacred piece of earth we call Mausica, was for life. We are in our 70s now, some close to 80, and the fire of that place still burns and shines. I was very very happy to see you and to join with you and some of the good men to sing again and to play the ass, signatures of being a Mausican....our special bonding. The lime at your house was the greatest...several generations of men there, something that I always look at....men spanning the years and just falling in...catching the mood....the special spirit...finding capability in themselves they did not know they have....
The calypso tent was a master idea, and I thought the singing at your house was off the chart, and at the college many heard the music and songs probably for the first time...people caught the mood, never mind the rain....
It was good to see you, one of the mainstays of this thing.....you must write to Maria, encouraging her to return to the fold.....we missed her....
This thing has to keep going...it is as authentic as could be.....that place made me whatever I am....it is the source...
Again good to see you...and other havenites, such as Efebo, Finbar, and Carlton Layne....
Peace brother.
Mighty Scratchie"

RE: Hazel Thompson Ahye

2017-Aug-19-0323Hrs
I wish to extend heartiest congratulations to Hazel on her achievements. She is keeping the flag of Mausica flying high high high. We of the '67 -'69 group are particularly proud of her. When Hazel came in, and I think she arrived a bit late, I may be wrong, she was so quiet and unassuming that I make bold to say, that while as the time progressed we saw her blossoming out, no one thought she would reach this far. Hazel, congrats, and may Almighty God continue to bless you and your family as you reach higher heights.

RE: APPRECIATION - REUNION 2017

2017-Aug-17-1643Hrs
On behalf of the members who organized Reunion 2017, I express our sincere appreciation to all Mausicans, their spouses and other relatives who attended the recent reunion. Thanks for your support and participation which enabled us to renew acquaintances and once again reminisce on those glorious and unforgettable two years at the best Training College in T&T.
In 2013 Alumni were taken to Tobago, Valencia, San Fernando and Point Fortin. This year we went to Diego Martin, Massa Nature Park in Central Trinidad and toured the East Coast of the island. Once again we returned to base for the annual concert...this time featuring our calypsonians.
Many of us, some for the second time, also viewed the award winning 'Ninth Floor' produced by Selwyn Jacob. As usual, to bring the curtains down we dined and danced at the Hilton Hotel and Conference Centre. Thanks to everyone who assisted in making Reunion 2017 another memorable event.
Thank you also for your feedback which has been carefully considered. Volunteers are needed to organize Reunion 2019. Please contact members of the current committee so that proper handing over can take place. Your early response is appreciated as planning for a cruise must begin soon. Yes, as was announced at the dinner, most Alumni selected a cruise for 2019. Other choices were Cuba and Canada.
Thanks again and as Brenda said last week  "a l'horizon 2019"
Regards to all...be safe.

RE: "DE BACK OFDE BUS"

2017-Aug-17-0346Hrs
My Fellow Mausicans,
Aye, hear nah man, I like de back ah de bus.
Not de very last row; about de fourth row before de back..
De lime does be de sweetest in de back
Plenty ***t talk, ole talk, debates and lots of laughter.
Remember wen Finbar shout out , "Yuh does still give man money?"
Slow down driver! Look de fella comin.
Wen we was passing thru Chaguanas, ah Mausican from quite England pass ah white envelope through de back window tuh ah fella in ah blue jersey.
Yuh talk bout laugh and inquiries!
But de most raucous outburst was wen Graham unwrap de biggest bake and shark ah ever see.
"Boy,like yuh goin an feed de five thousand or wat?"
De bake was about two pounds. Everybody on de maxi coulda take ah bite.
There was serious bonding too between me and meh half Chinee, Havenite Brother, Allum, and his wife., Dirka.
Me and Joy Valdez traded books.
Meh Mausican sistah is ah serious poet, oui.
Order ah copy.
Ah cyar wait fuh de next reunion.
Let's take ah cruise tuh Barbados, nah.
Plenty Mausicans have Bajan connections.
2019 we headin fuh Bimshire, little England..

Dear Errol,
I very much regret not being able to participate fully in the MTC reunion this time around. Unfortunately, the event clashed with my preparation for the 16th World Conference of the International Society of Family Law in Amsterdam, which is held every 3 years in different parts of the world. Not only was I a member of the Executive Council, but I was also a presenter at the conference and I had to prepare my presentation before I checked in for my flight on the night of July 22. I did take time off to attend the 9th. Floor and was able to see many of our alumni who attended that wonderful production.
I am, incidentally, the only person from the Caribbean on the Council and am now a Vice-President, having been so elected at the General Meeting of the Society. Please see photo of outgoing Council attached. I have put in a bid to convene the next World Conference. I want it to be held in the Caribbean in 2020, so that our Caribbean judges, lawyers and other professionals involved in family law will be able to benefit from learning and sharing with the world -renowned international judges, law professors and professionals from related disciplines, such as therapists, who attend the ISFL conferences. Hope some of you will be able to support me in this venture.
Warm regards,
Hazel Thompson-Ahye 70

RE: Reunion 2017

2017-Aug-08-1028Hrs
We The North say - Congratulations????
We enjoyed another amazing reunion.
Thank you to the organizing committee. We know putting it together gave some of you a few more grey hairs, you too Howard!
The events were at a pace that we didn't have to arrive too early in the morning. Those of us who stayed at the Hilton enjoyed leisurely breakfasts while we reminisced about our Mausica experience.
As luck would have it, after crawling down the slippery path from the hotel to get transportation to City Gate, we got a PH car. The driver lived in Belmont and he became our private taxi; he was available whenever we needed him. In conversation we found out that Felix Edinborough was once his vice principal.
Except on the day at Mausica, the weather was so cooperative, unlike the sea at Manzanilla!
The trip out east and to Massa park gave several of us an opportunity to visit parts of the island that we had heard about.
Selwyn, congrats on the success of the NINTH FLOOR showing.
The Gala dinner and dance were the icing on the cake. The decor was mind blowing, the meal was delicious and the music - ah still want to raise mih hand and leggo!
From We The North - merci et à l'horizon 2019.

RE: Many Thanks

2017-Aug-02-2011Hrs
My Fellow Mausicans,
Carl Caton and I would like to express our sincerest thanks to our Mausicans Brothers who participated in the "Walk Down Memory Lane" in HMJ Hall at MTC.. We had one rehearsal in Dinsley on July 14th.
Big Brother, Earl Carnovan turned up early with his keyboard; Carl came with his guitar, stringed for a lefthander; Rawle Phillip and Lester Osuna journeyed  from quite Diego Martin, Alisford and Scratchy, wise men, came from the East; Leslie Ramdoo, Bossman,  represented St James; guitarist,  Efebo, from Tunapuna,  added his talents to the musical pelau, and Finbar Ryan and I were the supporting vocalists. The rehearsal was great.
On Tuesday, July 18th,  It was mas in HMJ Hall. We invited the spirits of our departed Mausicans to join de celebration.
Carl, who has a memory like an elephant,  opened the program with a Trevor Davis' kaiso," Sweet Memories Of Mausica". Soapseed was the first Calypso King or Road March King at MTC. Next came Bossman, singing his hit "Make It Tuh Fit meh Head". He still has a melodious voice but his pelvic gyrations form the the mid-sixties were absent. Ask Annette Allen tuh show yuh! The audience sang  along as we belted out Beckles'" WAR",  Joe Stephens' classic, "De Same Mausica", Efebo's " Ten Dollar Fine". Scratchy  reminded us of "DE Change"  ----Mausicans from Pt Zagaya who forgot eating tanya and dasheen wen dey come tuh MTC..  Of course, we had tuh end de show wit Leroy Cox' classic, "Mausica" . Yuh shudda hear Mausicans singin, " Now I have to leave this  place I'm feeling very sad/ Mausica,  I love you so bad..
Yes man, people start askin we tuh make ah record. Such memories.
To wrap up the show, we switched to singing some Mausica folksongs. The spirits were there. It was vintage Mausica Teachers Chorale Society in concert.. Felix, the red rooster, crowed and flapped his wings. Cherrie Luke Brizan and Lynette Thompson became soloists. Myrtle Spencer an I  enacted Fifi and Sweetman Doray. Rawle Philip and Lester Osuna, delayed by inclement weather conditions,  joined the choir.  Wen we sang "Boca Chimes", it was a fitting farewell to the spirits who had graced us with their presence.
Runion 2017 was a success.
Ah gorn.
Rodney Foster. 66-68..

O.K. I may not see it until the following week, though. I am leaving for Amsterdam tomorrow to attend the Meeting of the Executive Council of the International Society of Family Law and to deliver a paper at the 16th. World Conference of the Society. I return on the 30th.  I am the only one from the Caribbean on the Executive Council and the only one presenting at the world conference, so I don't think I should be absent. Someone has to represent us.
Enjoy the gala banquet. I am so sorry I had to miss out on so many of the  reunion activities this year.
Have fun. Shake a leg for me.
Love to all.
