Re: MAUSICA WEEKLY EMAILS 2015-FEB-27

2015-FEB-28-0457Hrs
Hi Errol, thank you again for being the thread that holds us together.
I want to thank Euline Peters for sharing those pictures. Even though I could not find myself with my '71-'73 class, it was good to see my peers - several of whom I could recall their names and more of whom I remember their faces and some facts about them. It was good to see former housemates, classmates, my first "date" to the Friday night dinner and prom that signaled the end of Initiation week, ?musicians who kept things lively on campus, the voices behind Mayfair Mansion Radio Station, the panty raiders, advocates for cafeteria treats, my classmate who flattered me with attention and surprised me by doing a portrait of me for his art project, the outstanding athlete who roomed opposite me, the campus fashionistas, the brainiacs, the comedians, the quiet ones, the "cool" ones, and on and on.
Also, our senior class - '70-'72, I remember names, faces, kindnesses, comical situations, etc.
These pictures I will treasure and look over them from time to time with fondness and loving memories.
Euline, I remember some encouraging talks you and I shared one on one.
Thank you for the memories!? These pictures are worth thousands of words.
Thank you!
Joy Thomas née Philip '71-'73

Hi Mausicans,
If you enjoy fish and other foods cooked on an open flame, I have a great lime for you. Just be a part of the Montego Bay crowd and we will make it happen. Ask any of your friends about the Far-Out Fish Hut just outside M'Bay. This is one of many good eating spots.
The hotel is on the beach and the food will be plentiful, but authentic Jamaican foods are found in the small restaurants around the town.
Looking forward to the gathering

Dear All,
This week's blog was filled with so much mixed emotions that I was on a roller coaster while reading all the submissions. However, one reaction remained with me ... That is life .. the high points and the lows... the happy and the sad and we have the modus of operation from the God to deal with such eventualities .. ' In everything give Him thanks'.
So to my Mausica family, I just want to add my condolences to all, including Linda, Ansel, Joan and the others who have lost loved ones. At the same time I am happy as a family that we can be there in person or can silently say a prayer or give  a word of comfort to show that we care and share in each individual's  grief and loss.
Hats off Rodney for being best able to straddle the lows of grief and especially be there on so many occasions; and then tug and jar at our memories about beautiful enjoyable occasions past at Mausica that also cannot be forgotten. Then we must move on; all of us must continue to plan for an exciting future; the accomplishment of our dreams for ourselves and our families; and for the fun 'get togethers' and the Reunions.
On the latter issue, the Reunion. My question is could one join the group only at Montego Bay?  I know the answer should be yes but what arrangements/ re cost and payment schedules are there for such persons?
Thanks
Blessings

Just a reminder to give Mr. Williams (Our esteemed  Mausica Warden, Fitzie) a call (664 3631) or make a visit if possible. Yesterday, we spent some time with him  at the Bethel Home for the Elderly in Arima.
He continues to look well, at 97, not a day over 80.
Mrs. Cuffie is at the All Saints Anglican Home for Senior Citizens. She looks really well. Let's continue to drop by as often as possible.
To those who have lost loved ones, my condolences. Joan (brathwaite), I will give you a shout.
Re 2015 reunion, I will be away in the UK at that time, but having been to Jamaica over time, as I told Angela Mc Alister, the hotel inclusive cost  is ' A STEAL OF A DEAL'. Dont miss the fun time that Jamaica offers.

Hi Mausicans,Our Dutch Brunch our own all inclusive, was a lively event for those of us who attended. There were some new  people whom we were so glad to see and share some special moments. We were given an update on the activity planned for this year of our Reunion. We need your participation and early committment if you are planning to travel to Jamaica. We were so pleased to see Errol Lashley, Our Canadian brother, who came home to attend our Brunch and enjoy our Carnival festivities.
Condolences to the families of our Mausican friends who have left us.May they find comfort and acceptance cherishing the memories shared with their loved ones.
Therein lies the "crunch".Time is Time.We did share special time at the college, formed great friendships, some lifelong so when an activity or gathering is planned we really  look forward to seeing many more people attending, each one tell someone so spread the word.We all have something to contribute to the Reunion gathering, just being there.
Enjoy your Carnival time and space in your own way but be safe.

RE: REMEMBER WEN?

2015-FEB-05-0055Hrs
My Fellow Mausicans,
Do you remember dem Carnival dance we use tuh have at Mausica? Harry Joe an de Ministers of Entertainment use tuh make sure dat we had nothing but de best: Mano Marcelin, Joey Lewis, Ray Sylvester, Solid Seven, Angostura rum, Carib and, of course, Fitzie's Rum Punch. Dose were de good ole days.
Mausicans, 66-68 and 67-69, do you remember de year dat de Havenites almost made ah clean sweep? If we coulda take part  in de Carnival Queen contest , we woulda win dat too. Do you recall de morning dat all de Hvenite brothers wear jackets tuh breakfast and assembly? Every time de Joe announce one of our victories, we stand up an take a bow. Calypso King ; Lester (Efebo) Wilkinson, Road March King; Letster Wilkinson,  winner of de Ole Mas Competition; Fair Haven. It was Mas in de place. Vintage Mausica. Picture Scratchei playin Beryl Wood, Lester interpreting Modern Maths, "Mud N Mats" and Rodney imitating Ms. Cuffie conducting  de Folk song Choir. H e was wearin ah wig from somebody in Villa Nova, his sister short dress and high heel shoe and ah pair ah boxin gloves from de gym. De Characters were hilarious.
By de way Scratchie, yuh hear dey alleging  dat de Patriots deflated their footballs? Any suggestions on playin "Deflated Balls" in ah ole mas competition? Or Happy could compose ah calypso.
On a more serious note. Our Mausican Brother, Alan Simpson, , ah Grandee boy, successfuly completed two terms as President of the Trinidad and Tobago Association of Georgia. He lived our motto: " Molding A Nation Through Service".
So long for now, my friends. Condolences to the bereaved.  Let's continue living our legacy.
As usual,
Rodney Foster 66-68

RE:

2015-FEB-02-1824Hrs
A Love Letter To My fellow Mausicans: If my son Larry: Virgil Laurence Richard Romain, ever decides to die a second time, I plan to hire a secretary to handle the mail, and one to answer the phone. The phone has been ringing about thirty times a day since the news of his passing hit his Facebook page and mine.  My IPhone decided, no prompting from me, to just send everyone to message. I turned it down during the memorial service, and forgot to raise the volume again, but there were 18 or so calls to answer as a result .Friends sent greeting from China and Malawi as well as Singapore, Azerbaijan and other far places where my Fulbright Connections now live.
Rodney Foster, bless him, came to the memorial service, and spoke of the boys racing their little cars all over the campus.
Larry was loved by many and I found myself doing grief counselling for the number of children of his friends to whom he was Uncle Larry. One friend from the University of Delaware was lying on the floor howling and called me at almost midnight, but I talked her into a better frame of mind
I had to break the news to a number of people, though some beat me to it on his Facebook page, I felt a responsibility to make an official announcement.
Women friends came to sleepovers so that I would not be alone. They brought food or bought food, or had their friends cook. Just yesterday, a friend who could not attend the service on the 17th Jan. ended her weekend visit with me,from Florida; and cooked a pot of Pelau in his honor. Whenever she visited and he lived here, he would take out the three basic ingredients of a pelau, and say “hint ,hint”, and she would comply.
I loved my son with a passion that I could give to no other but a child that came from my innermost heart, and I miss him terribly, but I have another needy son, and I will move on .On Saturday, I attended the formal ordination of my friend who performed the Funeral Vigil exactly two weeks before, and received a blessing from Cardinal deNardo of the Diocese of Houston/Galveston. Ola Branche, the new ordinand, is a close personal friend, and in rejoicing with him and his wife, I found that I could still smile. The tears are nearby, but I can smile. The funeral home did two large portraits of him; one in naval uniform the day he graduated, and one in his mature years taken about five years ago.I received the folded flag privately. I would have broken down if it was presented at the high table after the service. I say goodnight to him every night. I have not turned off the light in one part of the house since he  left. I will do that after the 40Days Prayer service on Feb. 13th. Your supporting love has been the wind beneath my wings. Bless you all.
Linda E. Edwards(Romain 67-69)
