I look forward to receiving Mausica Weekly Emails and this week did not disappoint.  Rodney Foster's post was most enjoyable.  His reference to Llyod Brown, Leslie Greenidge, Ralph Precilla, Clive Grell - et al, caused me to smile broadly. Like it was a mini 65-67-68 re-union! I hope you were able to persuade them all to attend the 2013 re-union.

Just a short correction to your 'facts'......Philip R.Kendall (1966-1968) scored more goals than Aqui; ran more track, and represent the college in more ping-pong than any other student during his time at Mausica. Hello Mausicans,

I had a God time in TNT. Wherever I  turned God was present and guiding me.

On March 20th, my 82 year old uncle and I arrived in TNT. Marj was already there caring for my mother who was dehydrated and hardly eating or drinking.  I am happy to report that on April 10th when we returned to Atlanta, my mother's health had improved significantly.

Angels appeared in the form of ordinary people who stopped by to visit and lift my mother's spirits. The house was full of laughter and love. One day,  as I looked out the kitchen window,  I saw a lady passing by.  I said "Hello." She  offered me an extra daily paper that she had accidentally received at the shop.  I told her of my mother's condition. She informed me that she was a caregiver. She is now providing daily care for my mother.

My Mausican sister, Anna Maria, took time out of her busy schedule to help us examine different health care options which included visiting three nursing homes. Three days later we attended a meeting with some other Mausicans to plan for Reunion 2013. Dat gyul like salt. She in everyting. I appeal to my fellow Mausicans to come forward and help make Reunion 2013 a grand event. All hands on deck.

Aye hear nah, meh pardnah, Alisford, pass and pick up me an Marj and take we tuh Naparima Bowl. "Talk Tent" was hilarious.

De followin Monday,  we had ah mini reunion by Clive Grell in Arima. Of course, Alisford was dey too. Lloyd Brown bring he "Horse", Leslie Greenidge. Efebo, Caton, Taitt, Thompson , Andre and Ralphie Prescilla attended. Marj too. Clive and Mary roll out de red carpet. We had pastelle, black cake, roti and a variety of drinks. We reminisced. We sang old time Mausica kaiso. Take ah drink fuh Beck. Agreed dat Aqui was de best footballer and dat Leroy Cox kaiso, "Mausica", was de most popular calypso. " Solid Seven" combo made it into ah national hit. De lime was great.

By de way, ah conacted Scratchy,by phone. We talk fuh about ah hour. Dat Havenite real bright, boy.

Congrats to Hazel Thompson-Ahye.

Also baritone, Philbert Hislop. Ah see he win ah Ken Okley Award in de Music Festival.

Everywhere yuh turn yuh could find ah Mausican "Leaving A Legacy".

Yes, man, TNT still sweet. Ah love it.

Thanks for all the best wishes, prayers, congratulatory notes from you all. A special thanks again to Jemma Jordan, meh bro Lance Brown and others. I will soon share with you all a beautiful and touching poem penned for me by my sister, Joy Vadez, on my retirement and our friendship and another written by a teacher at my last school.  I know for sure that it was part of God's plan that we should have shared, and continue to share, our lives with each other. For that I cannot thank Him enough. Love you all in a special way that neither time nor distace can change!

It  is with much  sadness that I have  to  pass  on  the  news that  Bertie Fraser- a fellow Mausica  pioneer has  been  diagnosed  with  a  brain tumour  and has today been committed  to a   Florida  hospital. It  was only  recently  that  he  moved  from  Washington DC to a new  job  in Florida. More  information  will  be released as it is  passed  on  to  me.. Please  keep him in  your  prayers.

As for me I am still involved in legal work but on a reduced scale as the preaching work as one of Jehovah,sWitnesses is very time consuming and too I am learning Chinese to reach The Chinese people here with the good news of the  paradise earth yet ahead.

In his iconic calypso "Family", calypsonian Lord Nelson highlights the strong connection that is shared among Tobagonians even when they don't know each other. In fact, because of the small size of the island, and other reasons too controversial to mention here, it is quite possibly that the family connections in Tobago are stronger than the calypso indicates. My Mausica family connections rival my Tobago family connections.

I feel the same strong connection to my Mausica family. When Selwyn grieves for his mother, I also grieve. When the Hemlees mourn the loss of a loved one, I feel there pain. I also rejoice and share the joy of Hazel Thompson-Ahye and Myrtle Spencer. Forty years later, the strength of my Mausica family is still strong.

Maybe there was something in the water? Or, was it the sugarcane we had for midnight snack? Pineapples? Oranges? Persaud’s chicken? Maybe the cheap” cask wine” we bought in Arima for those impromptu parties?

Whatever it was, it worked and we shall be family forever.

Congrats on your Smokey Joe award.   Selwyn J. after 2 bouncebacks on a separate  message to you, I am going public.  Belated  condolences on the death of your mother but be assured... after almost 4 decades of experience I can tell you that she will never be far from you so treasure the memories that you built during her lifetime.

Mausicans, if April 2012 has come , can July 2013 be far behind?   Looking forward to the Golden Year.

My sincerest thanks to all of my fellow Mausicans who expressed their condolences on the recent passing in Point Fortin, Trinidad, of my mother, Doris Jacob. She was fortunate to have met a few of my Mausica friends and over the years I was amazed at how many of you she still remembered. So the e-mails and phone calls certainly made me more appreciative of the caring of the Mausica family, but seeing a few faces at the funeral was even more comforting.

Allow me, through you, to share some news with my fellow Mausicans.

The Council of Legal Education, consisting of the Caribbean regional Chief Justices, Attorneys-General, representatives of the Bar Councils, thelaw schoools and the Faculty of Law, is the body responsible for training lawyers in the Caribbean through Council's three law schools - the Norman Manley Law School in Jamaica, the Hugh Wooding Law School in Trinidad and Tobago and the Eugene Dupuch Law School in The Bahamas. Last Thursday, March 29, 2012, the Council, which is celebrating its 40th anniversay,  awarded me the Smokey Joe Award for Outstanding Service to the Council Of Legal Education. I recently resigned my position as Senior Tutor at the Eugene Dupuch Law School in The Bahamas. I have served the Council for 25 years, first at the Hugh Wooding Law School as an Associate Tutor for one year, then for fourteen years as Director of the Legal Aid Clinic. In 2002 I was appointed Senior Tutor at the Eugene Dupuch Law School in the Bahamas with responsibilty for the academic programme and teaching.

Eugene Dupuch, the distinguished Bahamian lawyer after whom the law school was named, used to write a column in the newspapers under the pen name "Smokey Joe", hence, the Smokey Joe Award. Other recipients of the Smokey Joe award were: Sir Orville Turnquest, former Governor-General of the Bahamas, who has been a great supporter of the law school, Sir Burton Hall, former Chief Justice of the Bahamas, who was a former tutor at the law school, retired Justice Austin Davis, the first Principal of the Eugene Dupuch Law School and Mr. Justice John Isaacs,who has also made a great contribution to the law school as a regular guest lecturer and as an assessor at our moots.

I return home to my family and my country at the end of this academic year. I will, therefore, be on spot for the next reunion.
