RE: Mausicans who are still doing music.

2012-Feb-25-1346Hrs
Hi Errol,
On your last notification to the Mausican family I noticed that someone saw Earl Carnavan at a function and he was still playing music- Us old musicians die hard. We can’t get the music out of our system. It will be nice to hear what other musicians from the Mausica family are doing. I hear sometimes from Bertie Fraser and would like to hear from others. Maybe we can form an on-line group. I’m still into recording and producing here in Winnipeg. You can Google one of my songs, all written and played by me on soundcloud.com/Ken Atherton/What’s Wrong. Please include in your next email.
Keep up the good work,
Ken Atherton.

Back home after Carnival so I am missing the mini get-together on Monday. I saw Conrad Thomas and Winston Yallery-Arthur on Tuesday. Good music as usual; great food; de winin' was a bit excessive. If anyone saw the political satire performed by 3canal I hope they laughed their bellies full as I did. See you all in 2013.

Congratulations to my college, and at times roommate, Myrtle Mitchell-Spencer on her transition to the next phase of her life. September will make it 40 years since we got to know each other other and she is still a friend. She will always be a teacher at heart. She will always be a friend.
From my room mate (your husband), my wife and I, it was a great ride. The difference you made in the lives of students is evident inyour household.
Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!
Now enjoy the rest of the journey.

Hi Errol, I enjoy being a silent reader of your emails and appreciate all the news and updates from my fellow Mausicans. However, I recently received a gift that I cannot keep to myself. I received a personalized copy of Joy James Valdez's recently published book of poetry - "It's Yours-My gift of Poetry". It is an amazing read and I just want to re- read the poems again and again. There are too many favourite poems. Congratulations Joy James Valdez!

Dear Fellow Mausicans,
As usual, it is great to be home. I took in Talk Tent last evening and hearing Farida talk about her teaching experiences really brought back memories.I laughed fuh so.She was excellent. I missed Felix's Pierrot Grenade, though.A pity I will not be here for the lime by my batch mate,Gerald Narinesingh, but I leave in the morning. Have not seen Gerald since I visited him in hospital many years ago after I had learnt of his having been chopped by a bandit. Shucks! I just remembered I did see him afterwards at his son's graduation from Hugh Wooding Law School, when I was teaching there and possibly at his admission to practice.Ah well, getting on in years.Hope you all had a great Carnival. I took in the Dimanche Gras show and a bit of Tuesday mas. I am always promising to check on Fitzie and then not making the time.I must call before I leave.
Today I celebrate with my Dad who is 93 years.
Have a great year.If anyone is passing through Nassau on a cruise, do remember you can find me at theEugene Dupuch Law School there.
Best regards,
Hazel Thompson-Ahye

Welcome to the Club Vernetta.  I have often wondered why you were not on the Blog.  Brenda what's this about a new book?... tell me more and lead me to it.
So delighted that the  MAS WITH CLOTHES ON... EXODUS,  WAS AWARDED BAND OF THE YEAR IN THE MEDIUM BAND CATEGORY.   I might just make it next year when they present LEVITICUS.  Was disappointed when I did not see Macfarlane.... apologies if my spelling is incorrect. I suppose CTNT did the best they could.  Hope all Mausicans in Trinidad are going/ have been, to experience TALK TENT 2012

Rodney, Angela Ifill and the other folks, many thanks for the condolences extended to me and the rest of my family on the passing of our Mom Marcie.
It was ever to conforting to see those persons, including Angela Ifill andAnna Maria Mora, who joined us in the celebratory home going funeral mass.  God's richest blessings.
On another note, it was really good to hear from Naranjit Johnson (1967 - 1969) through the Mausica Weekly, after all these years.

My Fellow Mausicans,
Do you remember Clive Nunez?
He was a trade union leader in the 60s and 70s. On Sunday, he was a History  teacher at the monthly meeting of the Trinidad and Tobago Association of Georgia. Clive refreshed our memories of the historic  Black Power days. Clive is an excellent teacher /student  and is available to inform our young people of the path we travelled to become a Republic. Clive is a member of the Board of Directors of PTSC. His tel. # is  868-623-2689.
It's good to hear and see how our Mausicans are "Molding our nation through Service". We can be found in all fields. While I was in Toronto, I read  Brenda Alexander's latest book.  It was great.
Mausicans, let's network and inform the readership on what we are doing. If you are building houses with Habitat for Humanity or organizing cruises, let us know.
As usual,
Rodney Foster

There was a mini reunion on Saturday, February 18 as my Mausican sister-friend Myrtle Mitchell Spencer gave thanks to Almighty God for adding another year to her life and bringing her to that phase of re-tyrement. Those of us who were there from the 71-73/72-74 year group offered sincere congratulations as we celebrated and gave thanks with and for her. God bless you dearest Myrtle. Joy

Thanks. My costume is a solo and a red (SWEET DRINK), no feathers; I think the costume reminds me of a genie out of a bottle but mama this is mas. I saw Earl Carnavon at a show; he was playing of course. He is still doing great things at the keyboard. I chatted with his wife, Ena Perryman. Nice mini reunion.

Mausicans, for many years now, two of us, Felix and Farida, have been performing annually from Thursday to Sunday after Carnival with the TALK TENT. Yes folks, Mausicans have had a major presence on stage with the great PAUL KEENS- DOUGLAS. A few years ago, Farida Mohammed(satirist?) joined Felix(Pierrot Grenade) in the BEST laugh show in T&T. For the last few years Farida has been killing patrons with laughter at the QUEENS HALL. Mausicans at the New York Reunion last year got a taste of her wonderful contributions to our literary arts. Check TALK TENT 2012 on Facebook or Paul Keens -Douglas's wall there.

Hi Errol:
I collect vintage all music from T&T on vinyl. I think I have the largest steel band LPs 78s record collection in the world. (close to 1000)
I also have 2 Lps with  Mausica Folk singers. I am missing the 3rd.. Hope I will get it one day.
Take care. Oswald Hemlee was in my 72-74 group. Sorry to hear of his brother's demise.
PS I teach Steel Band at a high School in Toronto.

I feel so good for those of you who will be in T and T for Carnival and other events... so wish I could join the lime and am so impatient for July 2013 to be here... mind you, this year is moving on so it won't be too long again.   It is just so hard to explain Mausica and Mausicans to those who have not experienced us and it makes me so happy when the younger family members come along to our Reunions, truly something to treasure.
Enjoy the get togethers and wear something more than sequins and feathers if that's what you find in your costume matchbox... celebrate in style and in clothes!   Love you all.  Pat

RE: Mausicans coming Home

2012-Feb-08-1200Hrs
Hi My Peeps,
How are you all?  There will be many of our Mausican Bredren and Sistren, here for d Mas.'  Many will be staying on for a while after Carnival.  We would like to organize a Brunch in Claxton Bay at Gerard Narinesingh's Place , (10..am - 2p.m.) on Monday 27th February.  On the weekend we have cooldowns and Pan Trinbago's what used to b "Champs in Concert." on Saturday.  Cannot remember the new name.  Gerard says that his place is available.
We will also use this opportunity to continue the conversation re: Mausica50 2013.  We will be catering brunch.  We can use some of the $$$ made from the Hilton get together.  Some is going into the bank to make up a balance of $5000.00 so that there will be no charges.  Felix informed that if the account has $5000 and more no charges will be taken etc.   I also have $960.00 from the sale of CDs. This is to go into the Roland Maunday Foundation, but we can keep it in the account until we need to hand it over.
We can bring our drinks, although Gerard said that he can provide drinks, we just have to let him know how many.
Feedback , peeps.  This looks like a Cool Lime in d makin'.
Another Lime: On Friday there is "retro night" at the Carnival Village, I went last night and it is really great. Nelson, Baron, will b there,  etc etc, and it is all free.  This is the second year that this Carnival Village has been set up and I think that it does us proud.  Didn't go last year because I was playing a mas, so did not go on that side of the Savannah at all, but  I will be heading there on Friday.  What say you all. Meet me in the Carnival Village at the Queen's Park Savannah on Friday.  It starts at about about 6.30p. but I will not get there until about 7.00p.m.    D MAS START AN GOIN' GR8.

Hello Errol,
Please share some of my thoughts with the rest of my  Mausica family.
My condolences to the Hem-Lee family, Gwen Williams and Conrad Thomas.
Last night, Sat. , Feb 4th.,  I attended the  Grenada Assoc. of Atlanta Dinner Dance. It wasr great.
Janice Strachan, 68-70, produced a piece describing the islands' journey from 1498 to 2012. "Grenada Then and Now" was both educational and entertaining. Cast members sang Y Ca Boucan, The Slave, Gov't Boots and depicted the Caribs, Arawaks, the Spaniards, Frrench, British and revolutionaries like Sir Eric Gairy and Maurice Bishop. It was a well conceived presentation.
Once again, a Musican graduate shared her talent, time and resources with the coommunity. Wherever Mausicans reside we become involved in the community.
Therefore, taking a queue from Pat, I would like to suggest a few themes for our 50th Anniversary: our motto " Molding A Nation Through Service",  " Leaving A Legacy", "Do Something. Be Something. Leave Something".
My fellow Mausicans, for Reunion 2013, let's pool our creative minds and create a theatrical piece that would tell the rich history of our beloved MTC.
As usual,
Rodney  Foster

Re: MAUSICA WEEKLY EMAILS

My Fellow Mausicans,
I'll be visiting Sweet TNT from March 20th to April 10th. While there, I  would like to participate in any meetings the 2013 Committee may be holding. I would like to suggest that we launch our media blitz soon. Let's hear the Mausica Teachers Chorale on the radio and TV;  have interviews reminding everyone about our legacy.
I n July 1970, on my first visit to The Big Apple, I sat next to a man who said "Nothing good ever came out of Mausica." Yuh know how dey did envy we 330 ! I decided to keep meh cool and work hard to prove him wrong. I know that we have proved all of those naysayers wrong. Therefore, let's take our 50th anniversary to celebrate and remind the whole world that we have lived our Motto: "Molding A Nation Through Service".
Yes Pat, a visit to the Campus would be a good  pilgrimage. Lawd, according tuh Mangatal, "If only these walls could talk, what great tales they would tell."
Yuh want tuh ole talk, nah. Come tuh de Reunion. It does be real nice.
Ah gorn. is 2:30 am. By de way, Marj and I will be in Toronto from Feb. 9th to the 14th. We staying by Gerry and Eunice.
As usual,
