RE: Ninth Floor @ TTFF

2016-SEP-29-2009Hrs
Hi Errol,
Here’s something for the Blog regarding Ninth Floor screenings at the Trinidad and Tobago Film Festival:
A big THANK YOU to those Mausicans who made it to the Ninth Floor screening at UWI last Friday (Angela McAlister, Barbara Wafe, Joy Valdez, Amba Reveillac, Pat Aqui, Donald Graham, Finbar Ryan, and the lady who came up and said “you don’t remember me?”) and from the Movie Towne screening, I definitely recognized Angela Ifill and Judith Bazzey, and Sadie Davis, after she introduced herself; and the family members who came along. Both screenings felt like mini-reunions. It was a true reflection of the Mausica family in fine form. That made the screenings very special indeed.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t possible to meet and celebrate afterwards, due to a very busy schedule but I know we took some photos at the UWI screening, so maybe someone will post a photo. If I missed anyone, it wasn’t intentional.
This was my first time at TTFF and it was a very rewarding experience. Thanks to the family support, it was even more so.
Thanks also to Felix who took Pat Allum and me to visit to Mr Williams. He was still being as witty as ever but he never did figure out who I was.
Cheers, Selwyn

Hi Errol,
Special thanks and congratulations to Selwyn for his production of the stunningly evocative film Ninth Floor.
Many of the persons who attended expressed thanks for its vivid documentation of a part of our history which had remained silent for so many years. We were also grateful for the explanations it  provided for many unanswered questions concerning certain events at the Sir George Williams University.
I share a few photos of Mausicans who viewed the film at UWI last Friday and Selwyn with some cast members.
Blessings and love,
joy!!!

On Saturday I was at a function at All Saints Church hall, so I took the opportunity to pay a visit to the Cuff (Mrs Cuffie as we called her). I chatted with her....you know...just talked to her for awhile...but I'm not sure if we connected. Even so, I felt good afterwards.
Stay up Errol

Response to Selwyn's post:
The issue revisited in the documentary, "The Ninth Floor," echoes conflicts some minorities still face today especially in western society/culture. This film presents different perceptions of what led up to the events that escalated at that time. Today, we may draw our own conclusions, but at least we should come away with a better understanding of how the past has helped to shape our present and future.

Sunday September 4th, Farida and Monty Chapman celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
Farida was a 1964-66 Mausica student and Monty was a pioneer (1963-65). Congratulations are in place for this  Mausica couple. It was a very happy occasion with a number of Mausicans in attendance. Yuh realize they get married soon after they leave Mausica.

Thank you Joan Letren- Awai for organizing and inviting me to the get together with Friends of Mausica in the Bronx on August 26.
The food was delicious and the conversations, though heated sometimes, were very interesting.
I last saw Joan at the Big Apple reunion in 1911 and she promised to be at the 2017 reunion.
Looking forward to seeing her and the New York posse then.
