RE: Mausica!!!

2014-DEC-18-0043Hrs
My Fellow Mausicans,
The word "Mausica" is still good currency.  I use it wherever two or three people are gathered together. On Sunday, December 14th., I recognized  a fellow Mausican at an after-wedding lime  and could not remember the name of the Brother I had met at Reunion 2013 in Tobago.
"Mausica ! Wey is yuh name again?
"Atiba, "  he responded.
We exchanged a Mausica greeting, followed by lots of laughter and smiles.
De lime went to a higher level as a mutual friend, Sharkey Dyer from California, Trinidad, suggested we take ah drink. Angostura,  Single Barrel, was smooth  and mellow.
Atiba was grading some papers when Sharkey called and invited him tuh come and bus ah lime at Tony Joseph's home in Plantation, FL. His response reminded me of the days at MTC wen ah study group at MTC would take ah break tuh play ah game of "chess",  take ah midnight "snack",  go in de cane field or go opposite our campus to our orange groove. Allyuh remember dem days.
By de way, Atiba is Leroy David's brother-in-law and Pastor Leroy is also my Red Guards  Brother.
Sunday's lime followed a beautiful wedding ceremony. About three hundred friends and family members of Nicha Douglas and Emmanuel Cumberbatch  celebrated their union.
As de lime was winding down, I was ole talkin wit ah fella from Antigua and mentioned Mausica. Well, who tell meh tuh do dat?
Mr. Antiguan, Richard Clarke,  inquired,   " You did know Rawlins an G?"
" Yuh mean Rawlins Manwarren an Glenville King?"
"Yes, dem was meh wife brothers-in- law. Cheryl in de next room. Lemme go an call she."
Ah say, "Buh wey de a**e is dis?  Dis world real small, oui."
Imagine de scene wen Cheryl appear. It was tears an laughter. Hugs and kisses. Introductions and reintroductions.  A walk down Memory Lane.  We recalled the many limes we shared in  sweet TNT,  Petit Bourg, Queens and Brooklyn , NY. We remembered the good times we had with our departed brothers. Cheryl asked about Lloyd Brown and Lester Efebo Wilkinson. I couldn't remember Ogorubu's full name,  ah Mausican from Curepe. Den Cheryl tell meh wife dat ah use tuh drink plenty rum wit de fellas and dem. Wat ah time we had.
Accordin tuh meh first roommate, Leroy Cox, "Mausica, ah love yuh too bad."
By de way, wat about Reunion 2015? "Let's Do It Again" in sweet TNT. Clifton Hills Resort in Point is fabulous. Good food and top shelf drinks.Resident DJ, Alpha B running neck an neck wit my DJ, Philo. Alisford would win by ah nose wen he drop "Samba Pa Ti "and "Woman on De Base" at de end. It's  better than  Hyatt. Enuf oletalk fuh now. Trini Serenaders, pass by Ms. Cuffie an Mr. Williams an give dem ah real Mausican Parang.  Allyuh, enjoy de Christmas holidays and may we all have a bright and prosperous New Year.
As usual,
Rodney Foster.

RE: Reunion 2015

2014-DEC-16-2238Hrs
The FIFA Women's World Cup Soccer is being held in Canada in June 2015 and Toronto and vicinity are the locations for  the PANAM Games in July 2015. Some of us are anxious to purchase tickets which are now on sale.  Are we having a reunion 2015?
2014 is ending, where did the time go?  I have vivid memories of Living the Legacy 2013 - as though it was yesterday.
On behalf of Mausicans in Canada, I say thanks for the friendships we continue to foster and pray that they continue with the same sincerity.  We wish everyone Happy Christmas, Happy Kwanza, Happy Holidays, Happy whatever you celebrate. Let every occasion be fun filled and dance even if it's by yourself.

RE: MAUSICA WEEKLY EMAILS 2014-DEC-05

2014-DEC-05-0927Hrs
Let me first say how saddened I am to learn of Mrs Lyris Joefield's passing.  Jasper, I know that you were her tower of strength, which we all saw and admired unconditionally.  You also needed to go deep within to make sure that the tower stood firm and was able to face all the battles that came you ans your family's way.  We also know that you have GOD and this helped to see you through.  May you and your family continue to be blessed and to keep the Faith.
Gwen, thank you so much for the support and encouragement.  I told Keith Shepherd once after writing for 12 years in the Mirror, sometimes the same thing over and over, that I need to stop, because no one is listening.  He said to me" "Girl yuh cyan stop nuh, yuh have to keep on doing until they listen"  The Fr Neil Rodriguez, told me the same thing not too long after.  I listened to them. Not doing it as often, but now and then. I can go to my files and bring out articles that I wrote in the 90's  and the topics will be still relevant.    Like we marking time, buh yuh know how we patient, stubborn and doh give up. Traits of d Cuff?
Pat, congratulations! I would have liked to make the launch but have to Daddy-sit.  I will call you.
I would like to wish all my Mausica Family inexorable blessings for this Christmas Season.  This is the season of Hope, Peace, Joy and Love.  The first week of Advent, speaks to Hope, the 2nd week to Peace, the 3rd week to Joy and of course the Christmas Week is Love.  I see many Mausicans living these "gifts" as they give of their time, and talent to help others find Hope, Peace, Joy and Love in their lives.  Please continue to do these Christmas things all year through.  Maria

RE: Mausica Teachers' College Alumni Challenge Trophy (San Fest 2014)

2014-DEC-04-2100Hrs
Hi Errol
Greetings to you and the Mausica family. We are now in the season of Advent and as we look forward to Christmas I am wishing the Mausica family all the best for the season.
Last year the 50th Anniversary Reunion Committee donated a challenge trophy to the NGC San Fest Competition on behalf of the Mausica Teachers' College Alumni in the area of Best West Indian Folk Song Choir. San Fest is organised by the San Fernando Arts Council.
Laventille Government Primary School won the trophy last year in the Primary School Category. This year Eccles Village Anglican School  won the trophy in the Primary School Category. The trophy was presented to the winner at a Grand Command Performance at the Naparima Bowl in San Fernando.
Our very own Fitz James Williams (Fitzy) was a former Principal of the Eccles Village Anglican School.
Congratulations to the winner
All the best
Joan Brathwaite (64-66)
