My mother's sister, Aunty Olin , who was my Godmother, taught me this prayer when I was a little girl.   We used to say it on the 9 days before Christmas...   You can share it with the little ones in your lives and also the little child within you all in readiness for Christmas 2012.
have a Blessed and Peaceful Christmas and may 2012 be really special.   Pat

It is indeed shocking to hear of Leonora's death. She was my neighbor for some years in la Florissante. As I write this I feel great sadness and regret that I knew she was ill, and I  promised myself that I need to call. I never did. She was a lovely friend and colleague. She will be sorely missed.

Thank you Herbie Garvin for the Discussion paper which I will read carefully... at a quick glance, I do not remember an entrance test, but perhaps those of us with some teaching years were considered to have passed.  I was 25 the year I got in as a Pioneer, grasping the opportunity as I so wanted to be trained.   MTC was a positive experience for me on many levels.  I really would like to know from later Mausicans how and why the malaise set in.
I wish evertyone a Holy and Peaceful Christmas and a 2012 whch will provide sufficient for your needs.   Be blessed... Pat

2011-Dec-15-0417Hrs
Dear Errol,
This is a correction to my last info.  Leonora Toney was a Mausican in the '77 -'79  year group, no the '75' -'77 as I said before.  Roland Timothy was at the funeral and he corrected this for me.  Abundant Blessings for this Season to all my Mausican bredren and sistren.  Mausica 50 2013 - Trini Mini Lime comes off on Sunday 18th. Printed 75 tickets and all gorn, had to add 5 names to the list for Hilton.  Look for pics. Maria

RE: Death Announcement - Wife of COP Chairman Joseph Toney

2011-Dec-12-0554Hrs
Dear Errol,
How are you?  Yes, Leonora Carrera-Toney was a Mausican. She might have been in the '75-'77 year group.  If anyone was in this year, please let us know.  I had her in a "Guidance and Counselling" class at The School of Continuing Studies, UWI years ago and she was so supportive of me and my youth center. She really wanted to make a difference in the lives of the children, this is why she chose to do this course.  She was beautiful, bubbly, optimistic, caring and all characteristics that make for a world full of peace and love, if we were all to possess them.  All the tributes from all who knew her attested to her love for animals, plants, her kitchen garden and her openness and welcoming spirit.  Actually at her funeral a donation will be taken up for the TTSPCA.
After Mausica, this was her journey Arima Girls Government for a little while, then Arima Boys Government, Arima New Government and Febeau Government from where she retired early on medical grounds.  She had been not well for many years, but an eternal optimist.
Please if anyone from her year group reads this, please add to the remembrances.

Re: MAUSICA WEEKLY EMAILS

Errol,
I was browsing through some old tidbits I had gathered on Mausica Teachers' College, and I thought it would make good reading and info on how this good thing started and ended.

Trinidad & Tobago: A Baseline Study of the Teacher Education System
Linda Quamina-Aiyejina, June George, Michael Kallon, Carol Keller, Samual Lochan, Jeniffer Mohammed, Balchan Rampaul
July 1999
Centre for International Education
University of Sussex Institute of Education
Multi-Site Teacher Education Research Project (MUSTER)
2.4.4 Pre-Service Training
The Maurice Committee also recommended the construction of a central college to accommodate a roll of 300 students. This recommendation was echoed by the Missen Report of 1954 which recommended the establishment of a Central Training College for Trinidad and Tobago. This resulted in the construction of Mausica Teachers’ College on a 65-acre site about 17 miles from Port of Spain. In September 1963, the college was formally opened with an enrolment of 110 students, three of whom were from Grenada.
Mausica was intended to be different from the existing colleges. It offered pre-service training to secondary school graduates who became full-time teachers  only after graduation. Persons between 18 and 25 years were accepted if they possessed five O Level passes or their equivalent. They were required to sit an entrance examination, and only those gaining 66% or more at the examination went on to be interviewed by a panel.
2.9 The Consolidation of Teacher Training
In 1956, there was one government Training College and three denominational Training Colleges with a total output of about 300 trained teachers annually. After the period of Emergency training which ended in 1962, the next major attempt to increase the supply of trained teachers came with the establishment of Mausica Teachers’ College, a residential college for young male and female teachers between 18 and 25 years. It became the largest training college with an output of about 110 students per year, which was increased further in the late 1960s to meet the challenge of preparing teachers for the junior secondary schools. This co-existence of pre-service training with in-service training at all the colleges, increased both the number of young trained teachers and the number of male teachers.
Later on, a decision was taken to close all denominational colleges getting government aid, as well as the Government Training College and the Port of Spain Emergency College, and to concentrate and economize on teacher training facilities by having two other government colleges in addition to Mausica, one in the North and another in the South. Eventually, this proposal was abandoned in favour of a strategy which called for the establishment of two new government colleges, each larger than Mausica, and the closure of Mausica. It has been surmised that the ideal of pre-service training at Mausica had apparently not worked as well as anticipated. The award of seniority and higher remuneration to young inexperienced Mausica graduates had sparked resentment and complaints from older untrained teachers with long service. It was also felt that doubts had developed about the commitment to teaching and the overall quality of these young teachers, some of whom had gone to Mausica directly from secondary schools.
The establishment of the two new government colleges, Corinth Teachers’ College  and Valsayn Teachers’ College in the 1970s, marked a return to the old formula of in-service training, aimed at accelerating the clearing of the backlog of untrained teachers. The system is still in operation.
TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO MEDIUM-TERM POLICY FRAMEWORK
2001-2003
Refurbishment works will be carried out at the former Mausica Teachers’ Training College, which will be converted to a Training College for prison service recruits as well as for the ongoing training of Prison Officers.

Hi Errol,
Kindly convey the deep gratitude of the entire family for the wonderful words of encouragement, kind sentiments, and love expressed for Carol and to her family, by our Mausica family on the occasion of Carol's passing.
While difficult on one level, it was also an occasion of grace for us to journey with Carol during her final weeks here.
She taught us many lessons about not only how to live but how to die. Her spirituality and strength of spirit will live on!
Of course, the family would be more than eager to contribute to the fund raising Mausica event in 2013!!!!!
Let me take this opportunity to wish you all a Blessed and Merry Christmas Season and a healthy, happy 2012
All the very best,
Magnell Robinson
