We mourn the passing of a great Mausican, Peter Pariag, 1967-1969.
Peter lived a caring life and to all who interacted with him over the years, he was a exemplary professional. See the reminiscences below.

Subject: Passing of Peter Pariag
To:

Colleagues,
I have learnt today about the passing of one of our former CSO colleagues, Peter Pariag. I first met Peter on campus in Economic Statistics classes taught by Eric St Cyr and we also were in some classes in the Mathematics Faculty. He completed his degree in Mathematics and Economics and went on to the CSO, possibly a year ahead of me in 1975.  I believe that Peter was also a  Mausica graduate and came to UWI after his stint there. He was a disciplined hard worker and when I was teaching at UWI a decade later in 1985, he was only too willing to come and give a lecture to my Econ Stats class on National Accounts and explain how CSO was producing statistics in this area. He did a very good job with the students and now I understand that his teacher training skills and work in teaching would have given him a good facility in teaching students.  Peter became Director of Statistics and after leaving the service, I believe he continued work by teaching at UWI and elsewhere as acknowledged by SBCS below and he was also on the National Training board.
I am sad to hear of Peter’s transition at age 70.  We celebrate a productive life that has contributed to statistics and our society. I can only hope that in the future our national leadership will see the light and ensure that a progressive and dynamic NSITT emerges and this would certainly be a fitting tribute to him and all the others who have laboured long and hard in the vineyards of the CSO.
Any colleagues who are in contact with his family, please share my condolences.
Best Regards

Godfrey

FAREWELL TO A COLLEAGUE AND FRIEND – THE PASSING OF MR. PETER PARIAG
Published: 7:53 AM on June 27, 2017
The SBCS community is saddened to learn of the death of Mr. Peter Pariag; a pre-eminent member of our teaching faculty, and member of our Advisory Board. Peter was an outstanding educator, a great supporter of SBCS and a trusted advisor. He was a consistent and near-constant presence around our campuses during his over 25-year teaching career at SBCS; taking his first break in recent memory last semester owing to illness.
For many years, he was SBCS’ key Economics and Quantitative Methods lecturer for the MBA, ACCA, ABE and University of London programmes. “A quote that he would have enjoyed,” stated Executive Director Dr. Robin Maraj as he shared his memories of Peter, “is from Dr. W. Edwards Deming: In God we trust. All others must bring data.”
“On behalf of the SBCS community, I would like to extend to the family of Mr. Peter Pariag our sincere condolences on his passing. He touched and helped shaped the lives of many persons, some of whom now occupy senior positions in both the private and public sectors … After retiring from the public service a few years ago, he became a full-time grandfather and part-time lecturer, and I know he greatly enjoyed both roles.”
“He leaves behind a great legacy, and though no longer with us in body, he will always be a part of us at SBCS.”
He will be missed."
