RE: Mausica weekly emails

2013-Aug-09-1047Hrs
Yesterday I went to the celebration of the life of Castro the owner of a popular watering hole in Dabadie.
At the church I connected with  three Mausicans,   Sitram Sewlal who used to work in the kitchen, Roland Maundy Jr  and my roommate Eugene Macpherson.
Mac was dressed like someone out of an Isaac Hayes 1960’s/70’s museum……semi cowboy hat, wrap around shades, multicoloured checkered jacket (small checks), red shirt, black tie, black and white pointed tip shoes with a square tip. Some of you will remember him at graduation in a long gown a la Isaac Hayes…..seems like he’s still living the life…
Continue to have fun Mac

RE: Better late than never

2013-Aug-09-0942Hrs
Hi Errol,
I add my voice to the chorus of those thanking the 2013 Reunion Planning Committee, for their hard work in the planning and execution of the event. Well done folks. I thoroughly enjoyed all the events I attended, and seeing classmates, some of whom I had not seen since graduation was wonderful.
Re -Morning performances.  I dared to play the steel pan - mind you, I was not a pan player.   I was coached for weeks by someone who shall remain nameless. On the morning of the performance - stage fright struck.  I remembered the beginning of the tune, blacked out in the middle, but ended with a flourish. I was mortified. In hindsight however, I realize how brave I was.  Under Harry Joe's tutelage you came out of your comfort zone, and tried new things.  That's what Mausica did to you.

Dear Errol,
You might have seen where my email was AGAIN (3x) compromised. I am really frustrated over this, AND I do not get frustrated very easily.  However, this is my new email address.  I will be sending it to Brenda and a few others.  I can wait until next Friday for it to be put on the blog.  I hope that I do not get hyper-vigilant over this.  It was great seeing you and hanging out with you at the reunion.  Really happy that you decided to keep the gift.  Did it travel well? Hope that you got it home safely.

RE: MAUSICA WEEKLY EMAILS

2013-Aug-08-2310Hrs
I was  only able to attend that 'enchanted evening' at the Hyatt. I definitely missed 'Scratch' but meeting once more others of the 67-69 group,  Maura, Hazel, Jacqui (we called her 'Fresher' because she came in a little after the rest of us), Maxine, Marlene, Bernice, Maria as well as others I met mainly through the Alumni Choir. I really loved the sing along session but was praying all the time that no one asked me to sing about how ' de puddin' tumble down, no proof in de eating.' I am a Methodist Preacher now so I guess that is why my prayer was answered. That song would have no meaning to the 'younger' Mausicans who were not privileged to be part of that traditional Christmas experience, but when I remember the entire calypso I would share the words. In the meantime I will continue to enjoy reading about my fellow Mausicans. Thanks, Errol! Thanks to the organizing skills of Maria and Joan and the rest! Looking forward to 2015 D.V.

Hello Organizing Committee
Thumbs up to the Organizing Committee of Reunion13.  I appreciate your time and effort that went into staging all these activities at different venues. Wow! I enjoyed every moment of it and  it was indeed a pleasure seeing everyone especially those who attended from my  Mausica 2-year stint.
I am already looking forward to Reunion 15 in whatever form.

Re Mausica Weekly

2013-Aug-06-1229Hrs
Congratulations to the organizing committee of Mausica's 50th Anniversary Celebration on a tremendous job undertaken and well accomplished.I believe we all appreciate the colossal undertaking of co-ordinating events in both islands but, your efforts are well documented.I attended all but the final's day's events and enjoyed the activities immensely. The 'South Day'was my favourite ,not only for the fine coordination and choice of venues but also for the music and food.
WELL DONE ORGANIZING COMMITTEE!
On a personal note I would like to thank Anna Maria Mora,Joan Braithwaite and Heather Arthur who consistently kept in touch to make sure 'all was well'with the'foreigners'.Your kindness and graciousness are greatly appreciated. You are truly special individuals.
Errol,
May I take this opportunity to again express gratitude for keeping us connected.
Looking forward to the next reunion.

RE: MAUSICA WEEKLY EMAILS

2013-Aug-03-1217Hrs
Hi Errol,
Thanks for this wonderful medium you have given us to communicate with you and others. I just want to say thanks to the planning committee for organizing the reunion 2013. It was a job well done. I only attended two events but I enjoyed them thoroughly. I was able to meet with friends at the cocktail party and the thanksgiving service.
The Service was such an uplifting event. Kudos to the young people of the Canaan/Bon Accord Methodist Church. Congrats to the pastor ,our own Mausican pioneer. I am so happy I attended the church Thanksgiving service. I had planned to attend two other events, the Valencia picnic and the finale at Paraiso, but was unable to do so. I am real sorry I could not be at Paraiso. We have to be so grateful to Gerard. I hope everyone found his/her time and stay in Trinidad and Tobago enjoyable.
My two comments to the organisers are: the reunion was a bit too long and also expensive, for me. I LOOK FORWARD TO THE 2015 REUNION which, I believe should be a cruise (What do you say Maria and Brenda?). God Bless Mausicans!

RE: Going back to the campus

2013-Aug-03-0028Hrs
Dear Errol:
I found going back to the campus to be a moving experience. I live in Arima and pass by the college regularly. But being in the auditorium was special. I could hear someone shouting out "Mayfair", a voice from 46 years ago. Could have been Andre. Or Bullock. I could see Bunny Osbourne coming back into the Hall after I had shouted out "Bolero", and putting out an all points bulletin for "one name". He did get that name, but the problem for him was what to do with it.
The moment of silence for our fallen colleagues, and the spontaneous calling out of some of the names was poignant. The Mausican alas is not immortal. My year group has lost 14 good souls, more than one tenth of us. I remembered the pudding falling down on the late Cheryl Gittens in the formal dinner. Errol Jones, Stanisclaus, and Raymond Mendes (and probably Noel Duncan) were bringing the flaming pudding into the hall, the tallest men on campus. And the flames got too uncomfortable, and they tried to make an adjustment, and the pudding shifted. And fell on poor Cheryl, a girl whose spirit was quintessentially Mausican.
I also remembered Yvonne who had the same number as I (20), thus we had to perform before the assembly together twice, on the same morning. I suppose at some point they cut out that aspect of the place. But in 1967 when I got there, each morning two people performed. You sang, read a poem, danced...whatever.
Can some of you send a note to Errol indicating what were your performances. I think I read an essay for one of them,"The case for not conforming" that made its way into the Mausican.
I saw a few people from my year group, 67-69, and a few who were a year upstream , and some a year down stream from us. Links in a chain that was important to me. That annual replenishing and the tension it produced, cannot be compared.
Mausica in its hey day, was before computers and power points. The library was never adequate. But the textbooks were great. The lecturers stood there before a podium and explained their content. I am still to work out the paradox of Dukhan, being so incredibly deadpan and boring, and yet educational psychology was the subject I think students loved the best.
Mausica remains for me a very emotion-filled memory, I think I grew up there. One of our graduates,Leroy Cox, from Point Fortin, sang a calypso, and in the chorus was a mournful refrain
"Mausica! doh leh me go, doh leh me go you know
That I love you so
Mausica! doh love me go, doh leh me go you know
How I love you so.
I could see how the thought of leaving the place could have caused a man to grieve like that.

Well Joy, thanks for the poem and it I well enjoyed. An excellent piece! Little did you know that even before the boat rocked you into Tobago, Winston had already declared at Papa Joe's, that the word for the rest of the week was, JOY! Indeed it was a week filled with JOY in so many ways. To the Mausica family and friends, thanks for this JOY you brought!

Hi Errol
Congratulations on a job well done.  Sincere appreciation for the hard work done by the organizing committee.   Although my attendance was limited to two activities due to family constraints, I was extremely happy to have been part of this great experience to reconnect with ‘family’ and expand with new contacts; also to put faces to names from the blog.  The Return to MTC was truly memorable; took some pics outside Wingate. Looking forward to future events...Blessings to all!

Hello Esmond,
I was unable to have a long chat with you and you left so soon. You would have been delighted to have met so many of the pioneers and my group. There were about 44 of us there. The evening was well attended and enjoyed by the Mausican family: the Home landers, Canadians, New Yorkers, Grenadians, Cayman Islanders and the Londoners. I almost had the opportunity to meet you in Ontario in August. Hope you will see many endearing pictures of the Reunion. God bless.

Dear Marina,
What a wonderful longevity was given to your Mom! Bless her soul. May she now rest in peace.
It been quite a few years that you have been taking care of her and you have helped her to 102 years. Don't let the pain of her passing overwhelm you, but rejoice in knowing the joys you have shared with her. God bless.

Re: MAUSICA WEEKLY EMAILS

2013-Jul-27-0156Hrs
Hi fellow Mausicans,
The 2013 reunion has been such a wonderful experience, that I cannot wait for our next "todoo". What an experience for my wife , who is not Mausican nor Trinbagonian.
I though that the Saturday brunch with the 1971-1975 group will be the highlight of my reunion, but was I wrong. The Mausica campus never seemed so good to me. I enjoyed every monent of it. Just being there with old friends was satisfying.
Old age caused me to miss the Nature day (rest day). Never been to the beach in Point Fortin, and although I did not take a dip in the water, it was another well planned day. The views from Sando hill and the breakfast was fit for this king.
The best was saved for last......great finale.
When and where is the next even......ah ready, ah ready.

I wish to express my sincere appreciation to the organizing committee on such a grand reunion. This took a lot of hard work, commitment and willingness. It was so refreshing to meet our Mausica family on common ground at the college. What nostalgia! "Hats off" to the committee. I must make special mention of Joan Brathwaite with whom I communicated. She was very polite and helpful. Although we may be miles apart from each other let us do our best to keep the Mausica family alive.

Dear Errol,
As faithful as ever, even with all the round of activities, I see. Friday was an emotional time for me. Oh what joy to see so many of my old friends again! And I mean old in the sense of long-time, not age. We have aged gracefully. I did not see any sign of old age when you were doing the electric slide.
Well, I just finished ironing my gown for tomorrow. I am not feeling 100% but I am determined to be there. Since some requested a copy of the poem I did at the concert on Tuesday, I am attaching it here.
Love to all,

I planted the Moruga pepper and it is growing like wild fire. It is so hot that on my second round of home-made pepper sauce I had to some fresh mango puree to bring the "heat" down. The mango added great flavor to my wonderful pepper sauce which has a little garlic, shadow benny, spanish thyme and onions. Yes, I am praising myself on my creation. No patent on this you can borrow my recipe and make some just like it. A word of caution to your European, Canadian, and American friends. West Africans are good with this.

Dear Errol,
Just being able to be in Tobago and being able to have the gift of sight to 'see' so many beautiful people, many of whom I haven't seen for so many years, brought me a deep sense of joy and gratitude. I thank God for the part you, Errol, have played over the years and thank Him for preserving me in the land of the living to just 'be' here. On Friday night (19th) I was overwhelmed with God's goodness to me, and nothing else mattered. To all who were there and to all who helped, thank you. To the whole crew at Papa Joe's, thanks for your fun company! Mausicans are truly family!

Dear Errol,
I am so sorry to learn of Samdaye's passing. I always remember her pleasant smile. She and Shyam made a lovely couple and I was very fond of them. She was my second year at Kirkendale and we watched the romance blossom. I hurt for them and with them when they lost a child some years ago. May she rest in peace. My condolences to Shyam.
Well, believe it or not, the long-awaited reunion begins tomorrow. Hope to see many of you during the week. I am still trying to persuade some from my year group to attend. We never have a large turnout. Ah well... can't win them all.
Those of you who may have written me and not received a response , please understand that it is not that I have deliberately ignored you but my yahoo took on a mind of its own some months ago. To Felix, thank you for re-issuing it. Errol, thank you for forwarding it.
Teaching was one of the jobs Christ did, the others were preacher and healer.
Only an old teacher could be walking down a street in another town, and be suddenly lifted off her feet by a burly young man who says, "Thank you , miss." To the amazement of all onlookers. Only an old teacher calls for a ride in a big airport, and the young man driving the wagon, says to everyone- "That's my teacher," with so much pride that the airport wagon becomes a Rolls Royce., with everyone smiling. Only a teacher could be called up on the day of the first inaguration of America's African-American President, and be told,"We are all here in DC, the whole class, and we just decided that if it was not for you, we would not be here, so I had to call and let you know."
And that, all of that, is more precious than gold.

This is a call to all those travelling to Tobago by Ferry on Friday 19th July 2013.
We have procured tickets for all those who requested that we get tickets for them
If you had made such a request and you want to verify that we indeed have your ticket please contact us by phone or email
You should contact: Claudina Cudjoe - fgcudj@yahoo.com Phone  676 8153 or 772 9220
Donald Graham   -  grahamdhp@yahoo.com Phone: 667 8609 or 733 0860

You can also arrange to collect your ticket before Friday 19th when we sail.
Sailing time to Tobago is 10:00 am on Friday 19th July and we return to Trinidad on Monday 22nd July at 1:30 pm.
We thought it best to leave Tobago at 1:30 pm because most people would have to check out of their hotel or resort by 12:00 noon and we also wanted people to get back to Trinidad during daylight hours so they could get home and get a good rest to prepare for the next 4 days of activities.
Persons going to Eco Park we will let you know the pick up points for the maxi taxi by next week
Other queries can also be made to other members of the Committee.
Thanks again Errol and see you all soon

RE: Reunion 50

2013-Jun-20-1344Hrs
Hi Errol
Greetings from the Reunion Committee.
Errol Thanks again for your magnanimous contribution via this blog. It makes communication soooo much easier.
This message is particularly for those who did not submit a form indicating what events they registered/paid for.
This has caused us some additional work as we do not have important information eg a phone contact etc.
Also for those without a form we cannot be certain what year you graduated so on your Registration ID we know that you would like as everyone else to see your name as well as the year you graduated.
We are appealing to those persons to please still download a form and you can email it to us so we can get over these hurdles.
Failure to do so may result in some persons with no year group on their ID or an incorrect year of graduation which we would not like to happen.
Please help us asap.
Also if we did not contact you concerning maxi transport to Mausica on Tuesday 23rd July or to the Eco Resort at Valencia on Wednesday 24th July and you do need transport please let us know where you would be so we can arrange where is the closest pick up point for you to get the maxi taxi.
Thank you.

While Cox was in La Brea he shared his unforgettable, classic kaiso , "Mausica", with " Solid Seven" combo who renamed it " Go Go Calypso"  The tune was a big hit and stayed on the charts for many weeks.

There is some misinformation.  Kariwak was never branded as the host venue for the reunion. It is one of the many venues suggested to particpants as a choice. Thank you so much Mr. Jones for putting "The Branch" into the mix.  Those participants who have not yet decided now have more choices.  Thank you again.

Dear Cutty,
I an pleased to announce my attachment with Point Fortin schools
I taught at Point Fortin College. When I started there that was the name of that school. Then came the name change to Point Fortin Secondary School when the first set of Junior Secondary schools graduates joined the school population and changed the tenure and tone of that college.
I taught there from September 1974 before my marriage and then until December 1976. as the English and Drama teacher

Re: MAUSICA WEEKLY EMAILS

I agree with Pat. In many coutries, students do not have to be assessed in the way ours do at the tender age of 11-12. There is a great amount of stress for parents, students and teachers and maybe this can contribute to the outbursts and 'out of control attitude of our people'. But bear in mind that other factors too contribute to this. I believe that conflict resolution should start at an early age in TT.
Just and addition to Pat's idea.

RE: MAUSICA WEEKLY EMAILS

2013-May-29-0814Hrs
Fellow Mausicans
Linda's poem on last week's blog, which I had read before, is a salutary example of the commonsense attitude and stance of a father giving a no nonsense a message to a young pretender.  I say this in the light of events that took place in a school setting in Trinidad yesterday, Tuesday May 28th
After the unfortunate event, there was talk about "anger management" and possibly other Band Aid solutions.  Too late... older persons appear to have kicked the ball of family values and discipline into the forest.  They set poor examples which teach a lasting lesson while telling young people not to do likewise.
I have said it before, sending a letter to at least three newspaper Editors a few years ago (not one thought it worthy of printing.)  The message was that school alone, even acting with the support of some parents, cannot accomplish a task in which Community has to invest and be actively involved.  I called for a move away from classifying some schools a "prestige" and working to equip ALL schools well, so that the hours spent on the roads in the early and late hours of the day to get tired children to and from school would be avoided, because parents /guardians would have no problem with a community based school which was not in unequal competition with others.
School and community would be familiar with each other and emerging situations would be more easily defused.  What happened on Tuesday was not an overnight event.
Please colleagues, remember Linda's suggestion that we bring books to be presented to NALIS as part of our reunion outreach activities.  See you in Trinidad and Tobago, God willing.  Pat ( Kirkendale 63-65)

RE: Reurn to Mausica

2013-May-27-2313Hrs
My Fellow Mausicans,
Today is Memorial Day in the USA. It's a day that the country demonstrates its thanks to all those who served the country in all the wars in which the United States participated.
As we prepare to return to the campus of our beloved MTC, countless memories will flood our minds. As Mr. Mangatal, a  Literature teacher, used to say, " If only these walls could talk, what great tales they would tell."
On Saturday night, a thought came to my restless mind.
Let's dedicate a plaque to the memory of MTC. Place it right next to the plaque that celebrated the opening  of MTC, in 1963. Our graduates have the resouces and talent to make it a reality on July 23rd, 2013.
Scratchie, my Havenite Brother, would you kindly contact Sto, my Red Guard  Brother, Meighoo and all those other builders, contractors , artists and financiers and  design a fitting  tribute to Mausica Teachers College. Scratchie yuh could even organize a Kaiso contest for this auspicious occasion.
n
Yes man, let the creative juices of Mausicans flow. Fellas and Sisters come prepared to dance and sing in HMJ Hall. Bring all your musical instruments and we will make all the walls of Mausica talk on July 23rd. Design a big Happy Anniversary card so that all attendees could sign.
I'll stop here for now.
Thanks to my cousin, Carlston Gray, for brainstorming with me. He informed me that we have another cousin, Millicent's daughter,  working at the campus.
As usual.

My Fellow Mausicans,
At Reunion 2011 in New York, we did some Networking. There was a Network Center at which Mausicans showcased their goods and services.
I suggest we have such a center when we "Return To Mausica". The area where we use to setup the bar in the foyer would be ideal.
Therefore, bring your books , art, business cards etc and let us network.  Remember tuh walk with some cash to support those who have items to sell.
In honor of our 50th anniversary, my books and CDs will be 50% off.
Caton, Brenda, Zennie, Selwyn, Alisford, Pat and others bring your goods and services to the Mausica Marketplace.
Let's decorate the foyer with our Hostel flags and colors. Wear your hostel colors.
Look fuh me in yellow and red. Sunset Villa and de Haven.
Can anyone put their hands on those 8 milimeter films and a projector? Remember Scobie marching on Sports Day, especially wen yuh reverse de film. Yuh would laugh until yuh wet yuhself.

Hi Mausicans
I was not surprised to find Trinis involved in the Boston marathon and glad to know they were unhurt when last heard of.  Today's Express is also full of news of the policeman who actually arrested the younger "bomber'... another Trini.
Can't wait to find out what Randolph Karamath has among his musical goodies... hope he has what I'm looking for and will get back to me soon. re Sando Gov't: Ben, I remembered Mrs Jones, a tall imposing figure, but I think you passed through well after my time there.
Interesting Boston note: the pews in our Parish Church of St Patrick's ( replacing the one that was lost to the volcano in Plymouth ,and now located at Lookout in the safe North of Montserrat) came to us from Watertown... location of the "bomber's" last stand.  The world is getting smaller by the minute.
Be safe everyone.

My Fellow Mausicans,
Yesterday evening, I had an enjoyable visit with our dear Ms Cuffie at the Gordon Home on Marli Street. What a time!
For about forty-five minutes, Ms Cuffie and I chatted, laughed and reminisced about MTC.  We sang folk songs and hymns. I would start the song and Ms. Cuffie would join. I  held her hands as we sang "Is a long, long time dat I eh see yuh", Zeela, Itanami, Boca Chimes, Lead kindly Light,  and a few others. I read some pieces from my book, "Remember Wen?"  It was an evening well spent.
Ms. Cuffie is in good spirits. Bright eyed and and engaging.
When you visit,  you will be greeted by a beautiful, caring staff in a pleasant facility. It is a humbling experience; a look into the future. Be prepared to sing and read with her. There are some inspirational books on her night stand. Perhaps you may have an impromptu sing along  or reading with other residents of the home present.
So long for now.
As usual,

I was listening a few weeks ago to a CD of Mausica singing at Queen's Hall. In the build up to the actual singing, the dignitaries attending the concert were mentioned. Then it struck me. Clearly, Mausica Teachers Choir at that time was THE group that was on the scene. Listening to the music decades later, two names strike me. Mr. Williams, and Mrs Cuffie. They took a group of young people, and moulded them into a choir that had the respect of all of Trinidad as well as the Southern Caribbean. If it has not been done before, I think it is about time that we honour these two people who gave so much to our development when we were young, and also to the country by extension.

Dear Mausicans,
On Wednesday, April 17th, Selwyn's family, friends and colleagues gathered in loving memory of Selwyn's beloved wife Joan. It was the perfect day to a perfect celebration of her life.
Tribute to Joan Jacob
The side of Joan that I saw and knew was that of a remarkable human being with strong ethics. She possessed a beautiful spirit; one that was kind, and compassionate.  When in her company, I felt at ease, comfortable and at home.
To begin with, Joan was an independent, tenacious, highly intelligent and intuitive individual who spoke her mind and stood up for what she believed to be right and just.
Her keen mathematical mind and highly organized skills were undeniable in the meticulous manner in which she managed her household. From her spotless home with the utmost attention to detail, to her hosting ability, Joan deserves the highest credit.
Joan once described herself as a minimalist and this was so evident in the simple and unpretentious yet sophisticated lifestyle she led. She once jokingly said, “I have champagne taste but lemonade money.” I laughed because this kind of humor resonates with me.
I will always remember the wonderful shopping and fine dining experiences I enjoyed with both Joan and Selwyn over the years. In particular, 2011 Christmas dinner at the Jacobs was a real treat for me and an unforgettable celebration. Peace, grace, beauty and wisdom united the seven of us gathered that evening in sharing our gifts.
Joan and I had mutual respect and understanding for each other on a personal level. We listened and heard each other’s views and opinions on different aspects of life without judgment. Somehow it seemed as though we mirrored qualities of kinship that surpass both words and outward appearances. I will forever remember her as a true and genuine friend.
I admire the relationship that Joan had with her husband Selwyn. They partnered each other well while allowing the other space to pursue individual interests. Needless to say, I would miss her dearly.
In the end, like she lived, she died with dignity. She always knew who she was and in the end where she was going.
Alas, I bid you farewell my dear friend. You have touched my life and will be forever etched in my heart. Be at peace and keep smiling down on us from on high until we meet again….
 Love and Peace,
Bernadette

I am still missing a few eg Dutchy Bros-Rhythm, Norm Tex Williams.- Fiesta, Lennox Gray-Xmas LP; Maestro- Live Recording Mr. Trinidad and some others. Thanks.

Fellow Mausicans
I have a " suggestment" ( Pioneers will know the reference) to make.   Some people already do this , I do not usually remember... could you attach your year group to your blogmails?  I am seeing Linda Heywood's name and I believe she was a member of the '64 intake.  I can even see a face but am not certain.   Like her, I would like to have everything the Choir ever recorded.   Thanks to Selwyn J, I have the Queen's Hall concert which we got at the Toronto Reunion.
Here's an idea based on something friends of mine have been doing to celebrate important events ( especially as photos may not all arrive in time for the printing:
Do a collage of the photos in A4 or larger format... could be back to back depending on the number.  These could be acquired separately or as part of the History package.  The collage would be a great souvenir for family members and friends. I am looking at  70th Birthday  and  40th Wedding Anniversary collages as I write... events in the lives of friends at a glance.   Just laminated for better keeping.
Joy Marshall... I was at San F'do Gov't in the days when Mr Goberdhan was Head.   I remember a Miss Thompson and Mrs Ivy Dingwall clearly... the latter never taught me, but she kept an eye on me and gave me little pep talks when it seemed that I believed that " cute" ( I had Shirley Temple curls in those days) was a pass to less than perfect behaviour.   I loved that lady.
Well, we are coming down to the Reunion wire so let us all be true Mausicans and DO THE RIGHT THING!

It is good to see the name of a former San Fernando Government School student. I am one too as are all other members of my family. I am Ben Alleyne and my sisters Cris, Jerry, Jennifer, Andy, and Eon, along with brother Steve all attended. During my time Mr Simmons, Mr White, and Mr Webb were head masters. Yes, I lovingly remember Ms Hoyt as much for her excellent teaching as for her fastidious dressing. Never was she without matching stockings, shoes, or purse. My best experience was with Ms. Thompson a "kindergarten" teacher who discovered my ability to read and add and moved me from my first year, through second year, into first standard within one year. I ended up in Miss Guichard's class at age 6. I then got "skipped" to Mr. London in standard 3. My Lord, what a teacher. I had Ms. Hoyt in standard 4 and Mr. London again in standard 5. I also remember Miss Curry who played the piano, Mr. Samuel who used a major guava whip on his stubborn students, and Miss Patrick a wonderful singer. What great memories I had of my time at SG. I met some people I know up to this day: Winston Yallery who came from Teacher Bailey, the Whitemans, The Gangerdeens, The Leacocks, The Sheperds, and others. The trip down memory lane is worth it.
